- Join us from Cardiff, Wales as we cover 10 things to do in Cardiff city including popular attractions, cool castes, green escapes, and Welsh food worth trying in this travel guide. Although we were sick for most of our visit to Cardiff, UK we ended up still finding enough time to visit the city center, our neighborhood and a few off-the-beaten path attractions.
What we loved most about Cardiff, Wales is just how friendly the locals here are in the supermarkets, restaurants, pubs and cafe that we frequented. On a rainy day we might put on the kettle, down a few Welsh cakes and pop open our umbrella for a wee stroll. When it was sunny, which fortunately for us was most of the time, we enjoyed exploring castles and arcades while wandering around in parks.
Cardiff is a city you appreciate the more you linger. You start to find favorite cafes, restaurants and pubs you return to frequently and after a while you feel more like a local after recognizing faces in and around your neighborhood. This is what we'll remember most and why we recommend visiting Cardiff which is a city with more of a town vibe.

Our visit Cardiff travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a Welsh food guide, top sightseeing tourist attractions and the city by day including visiting neighborhoods, castles and museums. 10 Things to do in Cardiff, Wales Travel Guide Video Script:
Well hello hello from Cardiff, Wales. New destination for us. New destination. It is our very first time to Wales and we're so excited to be here. We've wanted to come to Wales for a really long time and we're going to explore Cardiff and show you guys what you can do here in this travel guide.
We started our visit of Cardiff Castle with a self-guided tour of the Castle Apartments. This is the newest-looking part of the castle as it was renovated in the early 19th century in the Gothic revival style. As part of the tour we got to see the Banqueting Hall, the Library, and a few different rooms, but the place that really caught our attention was the Arab room designed in a Moorish style which is quite different from the rest of the rooms.
We continued on to the Norman Keep, which dates to the 11th century. The 12-sided structure sits atop a hill and is surrounded by a moat, and if you climb to the very top you get some nice 360 degree views of the city.
And lastly, we visited the roman walls, and although these too have been renovated, the foundations date back to 50 AD.
And that’s it for our visit to Cardiff, Wales. Our trip was short and sweet but we hope this video gave you a few ideas of things to do in Cardiff on your own visit. Now you know the drill, if you have any other suggestions of cool things to do in and around Cardiff, feel free to share those with fellow travellers in the comments below. Wishing you happy travels!
This is part of our Travel in Wales video series showcasing Welsh food, Welsh culture and Welsh cuisine.

I agree with you Nathan.
Cymru Ydir gwlad gore ynde
One of the best cities in the world. Big enough to have everything you need. Small enough to feel cosy and friendly.
Add to that amazing beaches and mountains all within an hour's drive.
Thank you! It does have a friendly town feel.
Wonderful! Welcome to my home country. Absolutely love Cardiff.
Thanks! We had a great time in Cardiff!
@@samuelandaudrey That's good. That's where I will be going to Uni in September.
This is great since I've been studying Cardiff Castle lately. Interesting fact: Cardiff Castle is directly south of Edinburgh Castle and directly west of Windsor Castle. So the three capitals of the UK, Edinburgh, Cardiff and London, all contain castles that are at a right angle at Cardiff Castle.
That is really cool information! Had no idea about that.
Bill Green that’s cool but Windsor’s not in London ...

Fair play I’m from Cardiff and I didn’t know that 😂
@@PTmusicchannel Thanks. You're right. It's in the town of WIndsor.
I'm from Cardiff and I recommend visiting Castle Coch just outside of Cardiff, St Fagans Folk Museum, the Natural History Museum which is in the city centre, and take a visit to the town of Penarth which has one of the last remaining victorian piers on its sea front.
Thank you! Really appreciate the suggestions. Hope we can go next time.

Thank you! Hope you can revisit home again soon. I feel that way when I've been gone from Canada for a long time.

Great tips guys, thanks!
Thank you very much!
I’ve lived here all my life, it’s nice to get reminded of all the little gems here. x
It was really cool seeing Cardiff. It's nice that the host suggested some great places to see in the neighborhood.
Thank you! Yeah, some of our favorite things to do were just around our neighborhood to be honest.
I am from Brasil, and next vacations me and my family will go to Cardiff, Edinburg etc. Your videos are very interesting for us, to plan our trip

Thanks Mate! We're really fortunate to have people supporting our channel and we're looking forward to hopefully hitting it soon :)
The stunning red brick building is the Norwegian Church which has a Wiki page. Cardiff was truly an international city during the industrial revolution, the history of Welsh life at St Fagans is an awesome day out.
The Museum of Welsh Life at St Fagans, just outside Cardiff, free to get in as well, Castel Coch another just out side Cardiff at Tafs Wells, Big Pit in Blaenavon and the Rhondda Heritage Museum in the Rhondda, both about 20 miles from Cardiff
That carrot cake looks so goood!!! Lol.Yes ,they've gotta have some walnuts on the top !!! I'm salivating now!

Excellent indeed, we will be there from London for a couple of days, prior to a train to Edinburgh. Extremely excited and will follow your tips 👍 thank you for ur pleasant and informative tour.

Thanks for subscribing David! Wishing you a great trip!
I must admit I don't normally like these videos, I find them just a tad cringy to hear others speak about your city. But, not the case for this video! I'm so happy you guys actually enjoyed yourselves, and staying somewhere just out of the City center like Pontcanna was such an amazing choice, then you get to see the little quirks our neighbourhoods have, such as the tiny market etc. Thank you for coming and giving us a good name! It's so refreshing! If you ever come back you should also check out Penarth, a short bus ride from the city center (across the water from the bay), they also have some amazing places to eat on the seafront x
Thank you very much! We would love to revisit in the future.
Great video guys ☺ I go Wales on holiday every year 👍greetings from Nottingham, England
Thank you very much! That is awesome to hear. Do you pick a different area of Wales or revisit favorite spots usually?
@@samuelandaudrey I revisit Cardiff in the south & Llanberis in the north ☺
Great tips. I lived in Cardiff 15 years ago and the city has really changed in a good way. Another fun place to visit is the museum of Welsh life in st Fagans on the outskirts of the city and if you can travel further afield the big pit mi I get museum is a really interesting day out where you can visit an actual coal mine underground
That is cool to hear! Thanks for sharing that. We wish we could have done a bit more.
St. Fagans is so much fun
I. Love this city missed.

Very cool to hear!
The toast with the leeks and all looks so good!
Thanks Karen! It was really tasty!
Just come back from Cardiff, one of my favourite cities in the UK
Very cool to hear!
I am so going to try and make Cawl now! It looks sooooo delicious!
That is so cool to hear.
Diolch for that. I also recommend the National Museum of Wales which has a stunning exhibition about evolution in Cymru and loads of top quality art. I also recommend watching Cymru play, the national football team. Based on the amount of football teams and players in Cymru, football is by far the national sport of Cymru. The singing and expression of Cymraeg culture at the games is top notch.
Thank you guys for sharing your experience. Cool to see the world through your vlogs. 😀 - love from Manila Philippines!
Thank you very much! We're sooo keen to visit the Philippines for the 1st time :)

I like cardiff queen street/central most coz it has most of the things to shop/visit
it looks like Cardiff has a bit of a Brighton vibe.. Lovely xx
Thank you! We really enjoyed visiting.
Brighton is the Green capital of UK- fine place, i'm sure- Cardiff has a positive cosmopolitan vibe
Cool

Thanks Paul!
You make me so hungry!!!!!!! :p

Do also visit Castell Coch, just outside Cardiff, the National Museum and Gallery of Wales, and Southerndown beach, also not far from the city. Further afield in Wales, there's Tintern Abbery and the Wye valley, the Brecon Beacons, the beaches of Gower and Pembrokeshire, lovely mountainous Snowdonia.
While in Wales, do not miss THE TOP of Mt. Snowdon. But book ahead on the cog wheel train going up there out of Llanberis because it is almost always sold out on any given day. Snowdon Mountain Railway is 4.7 miles of true UK beauty to the summit of Snowdon in Snowdonia National Park. Then the nearby walled centro city of Caernarfon is very interesting too. Bob - in dry New Mexico, USA having moved here from Florida which ALL got totally whacked in the last couple of days.
Thank you for sharing that! It sounds amazing :)
Been cardiff castle on a school trip like 10 times

A short train ride to Barry Island will give you a taste of how the Welsh spend their leisure time.
Interesting!
All I need is a 5 minute bus, I live in Barry so I'd agree with you recommending, only on a sunny day tho, a nice walk down a steep hill and I'd recommend going to a place called the Ship, food their is Very Very Good
I live in Cardiff it is so nice

A lot of people don’t that Cardiff Market used to be a Womens prison in the 1800s
Yay you came to Wales, It's so beautiful and green and we have so many great castles and beaches. We are off to New York soon so will be watching your New York video again. Shame the Dr Who Experience has now closed :(
What pub did you go to at the end? Thanks!
Thank you! We sure enjoyed our time in Wales. Had we been healthier we would have explored more castles and beaches. Oh, that is exciting to hear! Hope you have a great time in NYC :)

iam flabergasted and shocked, that the dr who experience in cardiff, that generated tourism from far and wide, is closed...
hey,I'll be there soon as well..🥳very soon...
You should have popped to Roath park there` a boating lake beautiful gardens and the memorial to Scot of the Antarctic his ship left Cardiff on his tragic mission to the South Pole also if you could have gone to Barry Island its only 30 minutes by train
Thanks for the tips Vincent. Hope we can come back.
I can't believe this. I've been binge watching your channel ever since watching a video on Budapest and loving your advice and here I find not only have you been to Cardiff, not only were you staying in my neighbourhood of Pontcanna, you were staying a stone's throw from where I lived at the time! (King's Road)
You lucked out with Pontcanna, I'm biased but it's the best place to live in Cardiff in my experience. Sad to report that since your visit, Y Mochyn Du has closed and the Dr Who experience is gone, but there's a lot for you to come back and see that you may not have seen first time around. Y Mochyn Du was good for a 'pub grub' experience, but there's a tonne of great restaurants in the area such as Milkwood, Dusty Knuckle, Bully's and Heaney's, as well as Canna Deli for an authentic Welsh food experience.
In the city centre there's some things you missed such as the National Museum and City Hall. Near Pontcanna there's also Insole Court and Thompson's Park which are nice spots for pics and relaxing, and Chapter Arts Centre for a more artistic/creative side of Cardiff. I'd recommend hiring a car to get around the surrounding areas so you can get a little further out to visit The Museum of Welsh Life at St Fagans (recently renovated), the beach at Southerndown (Dunraven Bay), the historic town of Llantwit Major, and the "fairy tale castle" at Castell Coch.
My wife and I are dog walkers as well, so I'm super bummed that we didn't bump into you for the short time you were in town, we would definitely have shared the dog love!
Also, lastly, if you feel like you've done Cardiff, please don't think that's all Wales has to offer. Head up to Gwynedd and see what Y Gogledd have to offer. It's so beautiful up there and the people are so lovely that I think you'd really enjoy it, but you really do need a car to get around up there and have to be prepared to drive on very small roads! Some great places to see up there are Caernarfon, Conwy, Llanrwst (google Tu Hwnt I'r Bont Tearooms and you'll fall in love), Betwys-y-Coed and Portmeirion... but even that's just a taster. So happy you came to Wales!
Thank you very much! Sorry to hear about Y Mochyn Du! We loved Pontcanna and found locals so friendly the entire time we visited. We had a great meal and it was our first time trying many delicious Welsh dishes. I hope we can come back someday to explore more of Wales!
Thank you so much for all your recommendations. It is complete - places and restaurants - I’m visiting your Cardiff at the moment and what you recommended is just what I wanted, better than the tourist information.
@@clarajackson7079 No worries Clara! A couple of those restaurants closed during the pandemic, but some new ones have popped up too.
Enjoy Cardiff, it's a wonderful city!
@@BenMcManus I love it, especially the people. I’m glad the Welsh language has been taught at schools.
@@clarajackson7079 i fi hefyd! :D The Welsh government has a target to have a million Welsh speakers, so I'm looking forward to that time.
Cardiff is a gem. My favorite capital city in the UK. London is overrated, busy and so expensive.
It sure is a gem! Locals are so friendly.
I love your videos!! Where are you guys from? 😁😁😁
Thanks Luis! We're from Canada.

You've got taste. Cardiff is a brilliant city. And only about 60 miles from where I live too! By road or rail it would take 1 1/2 hours to get there from my place. You need a bit of work pronouncing places names beginning with "Ll", like Llandaff for example! You can get to see rugby games in Cardiff in February and March each year - there is the annual Six Nations tournament between England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, France and Italy. Also there's Autumn Internationals in November and December, each year (except Rugby World Cup years, next one 2019 and then 2023 and every 4 years after that), where Wales play 4 games against mostly Southern Hemisphere sides, like New Zealand, Australia and South Africa for example
Thank you! Ah, you live nearby. Do you visit often?
I go there every October. A hobby of mine is running, and I take part in the cty's annual half marathon which is every October. It's the UK's second biggest half marathon, with 25,000 people taking part last year
Roark park is great
It truly is!
Hi guys.... Nice video... I plan to visit Wales next week but unable to find enough information about how to get around in Wales ... Basically what is the public transport like ? Please could you help? Thanks
Thanks Rajani. Try using airbnb that is how we found our place. We covered the city on foot.
St Fagans National Museum of History
is a must see. It has a collection of buildings that have been relocated from different parts of Wales and rebuilt. The ages of the buildings range from many hundreds of years old to much more recent ones. It's only a short ride from the city centre by bus and is free to get in.

@@Tombola1993 I recommend Pembrokeshire for sure but not Swansea or Port Talbot
@@tomgallimore9645 That's ok. I respect your opinion. Not a massive Swansea fan either, despite me living close by it.
You would be extremely lucky to rock up in Cardiff a couple of days before an international rugby match and expect to get a ticket, at least through official channels.
However, if you're prepared to wait around in the street outside the main entrance until right up until kick off, it's quite common for latecomers with a spare ticket to try and sell it, and as they're running late you can pick one up for around 20 quid, in fact one time I saw someone just give a ticket away for free. Avoid the professional ticket touts though, their prices will stay high.
Thanks for letting us know! Great advice. Hope to catch a match someday.
