always. it's not popular to be a masculine, straight man and love her, or even SAY you like her...but IDGAF! she rocks and despite me loving Rage Against The Machine, Rush, Incubus, Chevelle, and groups like that, I've seen M.E. more than any of them. :)
It's been 2 years since my sister passed away. This is one of the songs that reminds me of her. I love you, Debra. Forever in my heart. 7/19/1987-1/6/2019.
@@ec5582, allow me to translate "no one" = anyone who has a level of knowledge and appreciation of music that enables them to listen to artists outside the mainstream. You're welcome.
Beautiful performance by Melissa of an extraordinary song written by all the members of the band, GREENWHEEL. Filmed at TWO separate football grounds, and yes, Coach Atkins is still alive. Perhaps this time we could all love one another, or at least co-exist peacefully?
I never knew it was a cover song. It’s always been a song I heard in passing, on the radio or whatever. I like the Greenwheel version a lot. Great cover great song. I guess I have some Greenwheel to discover now.
Can i ask? . .. .Why did she choose this location and that coach to sort of be the visual reference? ....... I'm in and from St. Louis, btw. Thank you and stay strong.
I played the fool today And I just dream of vanishing into the crowd Longing for home again But home is a feeling I buried in you I'm all right, I'm all right It only hurts when I breathe I can't ask for things to be still again I can't ask if I could walk through the world in your eyes Longing for home again But home is a feeling I buried in you I'm all right, I'm all right It only hurts when I breathe I'm all right, I'm all right It only hurts when I breathe My window through which nothing hides And everything sings 'Cause I'm counting the signs Cursing the miles in between Home is a feeling I buried in you I'm all right, I'm all right It only hurts when I breathe
I absolutely love Greenwheel!! I had no idea Melissa Etheridge did a cover of their song Breathe so I had to come check it out! Greenwheel did a killer job with their original version but Melissa did a really good job too! :)
awesome song, awesome video, my husband is in this video. my husband is one of the football players lefting coach adkins up after there winning a state championship 93
This song makes me reflect on the unbearable pain we volunteer for when we fall in love, get married, and build a life together. I love my wife more than words can describe, and in the 25 years we’ve been together that love has become more than emotional, more than physical, and even more than spiritual. Losing her is the ONLY thing I truly fear, and I know that that loss would destroy me in ways that could never be healed. And yet I accept that in order to embrace her.
Thanks for doing a video at JCHS and Pete Adkins! I went to this school and graduated from there in 2001. I will always be Jaybird. Thanks Melissa! Great song! Brings back memories.
I just saw an interview w Etheridge about her chemo and medication. I am so much more impressed with her in a positive way after hearing her speak. I have heard her music for years. I appreciate her much more now. Never knew she had kids. Look so happy.... and beautiful family, beautiful kids, together in the photos I saw.
I've been in love with Mel's music since I was a teenager. This is my fave tune. I love playing it, I love to sing it even though it's way out of my vocal range. It hits hard, almost like I get out my aggressions and stress of the day with I sing this song.
This brings me back to spring 2004. Age 22 I remember hearing it in the bookstore at my college. "Home...is a feeling I buried in you.." I was thinking of a relationship that ended the year before
Graduated in 2006 from JC, I never like high school but this song is awesome and it gives me pride that i was able to go to a school that had such an amazing football coach and team!
I dedicate this video to my father. i hope he got a chance to hear it in his life. he was a sports guy & would have loved this video. It also describes how he felt most of the time. "It only hurts when I breathe." All he ever wanted was a home & I don't think he ever truly found it. he buried it somewhere and never really found it. Every lyric is like a biography of his life.
Melissa, ur music has helped me so much though life, ur one of my idols and thanks for the music to help me get though the tough times, this song I came about when I was so sad when my grandfather died and it does hurt when I breathe cause of the memorys of him!!
I've found this one of the most heartbreaking songs ever since it came out when I was 13. And I know the original too, but this one just sounds so much more pain-filled.
I went to school up the road on Hwy 54. Still got my sting.=) One thing about us from the Midwest, we may take different paths-we ALWAYS remember where we came from.
I'm grieving my marriage and hear this song in my head. She explains it so well. This is what it feels like. He was my home. I stop hurting for brief moments and they pass soo quickly and the pain envelopes and chokes me. I don't wanna be here anymore.
I grew up right next to what is now Adkins Stadium. The whole neighborhood was destroyed by a tornado in May 2019, Mom's house stood, but was later sold. Pretty cool that my childhood home is immortalized in this video and was on MTV. Never made Cribs, though.
Very fitting of Melissa Etheridge to cover Greenwheel’s song “Breathe.” Greenwheel was a band from St. Charles, MO and Melissa Etheridge was born in Leavenworth, Kansas….. not to far away!
That was filmed at Adkins stadium, Jefferson City, MO. Jefferson City High School. I should know because-that's my high school and Coach Adkins has been a family friend for over 45 years.
He's not a player, he's a Coach. Looks like he dedicated his entire life to it too, and he's hurting because its gone. This huge part of him ripped away because he was getting to old. And just because its not a huge problem doesn't mean it can't be sad or beautiful. Idk, thats the way i interpreted it. And i think it did a great job capturing the feeling of the song.
They say you can't go home again. In this, it's true. My mom passed in 2007. My dad in 2013. A large part of me went with them. Life's never been the same. Home was buried with them.
i agree...i am also a coach/player and i stumbled across this song..the content of the video really pulled me in. I heard both versions i liked them equally. Its embarrassingly accurate in terms of my life....i was blown away by that i know that probably sounds silly to most lol..by embarrassing i meant that its not everyday you see a video and a song literally portraying your deepest feelings so accurately and in context
I just made a comment about this lol..I worked with the guy at TRUE manufacturing that actually wrote the song. He will forever get a check for $1200/month for royalties for this if it helps....that was almost 10 years ago he told me that...he wanted to be a music producer at the time instead of an actual artist...he said the money was in producing..I guess artists don't make anything
This how I have felt for the last 9 months. Injury made me lay my racket down. Then my man died unexpectedly. Then my dog died and several dear friends.
I have PTSD. What can often trigger an attack is not breathing properly. Being subconsciously short of breathe to trigger that malfunctioning survival mode despite not being in an objectively dangerous situation.
I sat on a couch as a member of Greenwheel wrote this song about my sister. Amazing!
Really? What’s your proof?
This women will forever inspire me 🌈💞
God....i just love this woman.
Her music helped shape me growing up. Pure poetry
Lol she didn’t even write this song….

This song yo. I still remember at age 15 or something (budding young woman) listening to it. You can hear the pain in her voice. Beautiful.
The legacy still lives on and it is a pleasure to see Mr. and Mrs. Adkins at the football games.

Yup but I prefer the Greenwheel version, the original one in fact. :)
I like this one better because Greenwheel is too screamo.
Kevin Bouquet Melissa’s version way better and made it a hit. No one knows the other version. It’s ok

Beautiful performance by Melissa of an extraordinary song written by all the members of the band, GREENWHEEL.

This song helped me through much grief. It only hurt when I breathed. I hope you get back to performing it more frequently Melissa.
A great song for Melissa her to redo! Never thought I’d hear this Greenwheel song by someone else. She kills it!
