My mom raised me right also and I grew up listening to Melissa, fond memories of car rides, singing this album all the way through. She passed away at 42 , I was 22 in 2008 with two babies, both were born in 2007, one 1-07, the other 12-07. In moments I need her, I find her by listening to Melissa Etheridge. I go to evey concert I can each year, she has no grave so her concerts are where I visit. Last concert, I was really missing my mom and she actually sang a lot of her older songs, some I had never heard her live before. I was that grown woman in the front row crying that night, hearing the songs that let me know I can always find her, feel her, truly remember her. 8 hope Melissa Etheridge truly knows her music has a impact across the decades and she is truly a amazing artist-
Plus the talent in her pinky out shines most. I made my girls go once to a concert when they thought they would grow up to be rock stars. Showed them a amazing women they can look up to in the industry. They not only heard her amazing way she delivers songs, but her ability across several instruments. A true musician, not just pretty face with a team of producers and sound equipment- Melissa Etheridge is the real deal, and is a role model on stage and as a person in general
My daughter and I saw her in concert some 25 years ago and in 2021 she came to our hometown again and we saw her. That her music can relate to generations says it all. This is my favorite of hers.
Melissa writes universally about love, passion, jealousy, and heartbreak. No matter who we love, we can readily imagine ourselves in the situations she portrays.
One of the best, most deep songs i've ever heard. A friend put this on a cd for me when i was 17 and into the old gangsta rap and this song touched me like nothing else. I'm surprised that so many people feel the need to comment on her sexuality. Why is it so important? A tallented person is a tallented person, regardless of their sexuality, gender, race, religion, colour or background. Lets focus on the music peeps.
You find words to talk about this song - these words overwhelme me! Thanx a lot for your statement! CONGRATS! I love Melissa - from her very first moments - and I preciated your words! GOD bless U! Even your comment is 13 years back! 🤩
Brave and Crazy stayed in my cassette player for months. So many great songs on that album, but the first time I heard this it was like being hit in the chest with a sledgehammer. Last song on side one, as I recall. Just a little proof that genius still exists in our world.❤
A twist of fate lead me to hear Trisha's version first, and I thought "well girl, I think you've just found yourself". Then I heard Melissa's original - it blew me away. It's sung with so much passon, you can hear the pain, and love, in her voice. Simply awesome.
my sister sang this song in my kitchen, then she drived a long time....7 years ago she died in my arms and in church this song played......love is with us
As crazy as it sounds.....this song gives me....hope. Ive been alone a long time and had pretty much given up. But someone has changed that for me....and we always talk about traveling....one day....if the gods are kind. Shes going to get in my car...Im going to put this up on the radio and just look at her and say...." which way you wanna go baby ?"
I will never forget where I was the first time I heard her voice. I was reeling from the loss of my brother, 30 yrs today, from complications due to HIV, and hanging out with those he called "friend's". Some were shady, some pure and honest. All of them tucked deep in my heart. Melissa Etheridge is a gem. Nobody has that voice, that soul, that purity to make her so unique. She is the only one who could soothe me tonight. Thank you,. Melissa is for being you.
This video, the Official one, I’ve never seen this before. Its amazing! This song is one of her older ones. But, it never gets old for me. So glad that I stumbled across her. She, and her music are like a long, cool drink of water to me. And I’ve been lost in the desert, dying of thirst. Thank you, so much, Melissa. I love ❤️ you, and your music 🎵. Keep on Rockin’!!!
I just love listening to the passion in each song and trust me, they touch me a straight woman just as deeply. Love is love and heart break is heart break doesn't cover one race, color or sexual preference.
I was probably the last person ever to find out that Melissa Etheridge is gay. I just thought we knew the same kind of guys. You are right, gender and sexual preferences don't change the feelings. She so gets that. Love this song.
I sang this to both of my babies as a lullaby. I've always loved this song, spoke to my soul. Also, perfect for the soundtrack of Where The Day Takes You.... loved that movie as well.
Just a great, torching hot love song! The passion Melissa puts into her music and and the intensity of the ride she takes you on leave you gasping for more! I never cared who she loved, but when she came out I only loved her more for her bravery.
Wow... someone finally commented about Where the Day Takes you... such an undiscovered gem! It's where I first found this song back in the early 90s at the tender age of 13.

This song means so much to me!! I loved a women who I thought loved me!?!? I will never forget my relationship with her because of this song. Cindi....
this is a very warmhearted love song to me, and quite an unusual one. Most love songs will talk about either the passion to the beloved one, the feelings towards him or her, or the pain when being apart or when love is uncountered. In this one however, she talks about what she will do (unconditionally) for him, without demanding anything in return. Doing something for your beloved one simply for the sake because you like him/her and knowing that they will greatly enjoy it or simply relax and soke it all in, yes i guess this is an often forgotten vertue. I'm > 50 right now and English is not my native language, and the hard i think, i do not remember having ever heard a love song of this kind. Well done!
I think you misunderstood this song. At its core, it's about the heartbreak of feeling your lover beginning to slip away, and deciding to do whatever you can to keep that from happening.
My wife just sent this to me… I’m feeling very lost and alone…. I just lost my mom a couple of weeks ago…. thank you baby, you know me so well ❤️❤️❤️ you knew just what I needed 😂😘😂😘😂 I love you… this is such a beautiful song!!!! Melissa you rock❤️
this is my favorite post to date on youtube, EJ is arguably the greatest musician along with bernie taupin they have created some of the greatest music on the planet.
I am a tough guy. Worked hard in my life, failed a lot, lost so many people and am still alive. But when I hear this, i cry out all my pain with tears. This is one of the most important musics in my life. Thank you melissa. You made a lot of shit and crap songs. But this is definately a masterpiece.
You and me both, buddy! I owned a copy of this as a single 12" for 25 years, I've just sent it to the old flame who played it to me first, and yes, i cried then and now. Got here from Wash Me Clean by KD Lang, and I can agree that both artists have churned out some crud, but this is golden.
@@nopenadanowaynohow No I don't think you do get it unless you're hiding it well. I was speaking to my experience as an LGBTQ+ individual. I listened and watched someone like myself in a time that we didn't see ourselves unless we were comedy relief or dying in a movie or on TV. So while I never implied in my original statement that it was just the LGBTQ+ community that responded to the song or that it was about only us I will say that for us? It was earth moving in a way it wasn't for anyone else. Representation matters. Also, sure it's about a relationship. It was also written from a lesbian standpoint. So ya I get it.
@@nopenadanowaynohow I'm not sure of how "Coming out at 14 in a small town this song hit me so hard" = This song only speaks to LGBTQ folks? Once again I was speaking to *my* experience. You are the one who brought up that it wasn't about sexuality. I never said gender was mentioned. I said Knowing that it was written for a woman by a woman was empowering for me because of a lack of representation. Maybe you should have left it at YOUR experience with the song with out trying to invalidate and misinterpret mine? Why did I assume you weren't part of my community? 1. LBG is incorrect. no LGBTQ+ person I have ever met uses that initialism. 2. We tend to not belittle each others coming out. "But go ahead buttercup, assume that anyone with a different opinion can't be gay and understand" If you are not LGBTQ you can not understand the experience of being so. You can empathize but not understand. ALSO buttercup??? So now we are being clever and name calling??? Get under a bring troll because I'm done with you.

I miss you Daddy. I remember always singing this song while you played the guitar. Give Mama a hug for me. I really need you right now.
This is one of Etheridge's best songs and was used brilliantly in the 1993 movie "Where the Day Takes You".
My favorite movie!
This song is beautiful and haunting, regardless of sexuality. Melissa at her finest.
Melissa writes universally about love, passion, jealousy, and heartbreak. No matter who we love, we can readily imagine ourselves in the situations she portrays.
Nothing to do with sex

KING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Come on baby let's get out of this town
I got a full tank of gas with the top rolled down
There's a chill in my bones
I don't want to be left alone
So baby you can sleep while I drive
I'll pack my bag and load up my guitar
In my pocket I'll carry my harp
I got some money I saved
Enough to get underway
And baby you can sleep while I drive
We'll go thorough Tucson up to Santa Fe
And Barbara in Nashville says we're welcome to stay
I'll buy you glasses in Texas a hat from New Orleans
And in the morning you can tell me your dreams
You know I've seen it before
This mist that covers your eyes
You've been looking for something
That's not in your life
My intentions are true
Won't you take me with you
And baby you can sleep while I drive
Oh is it other arms you want to
Hold you the stranger
The lover you're free
Can't you get that with me
Come on baby let's get out of this town
I got a full tank of gas with the top rolled down
If you won't take me with you
I'll go before night is through
And baby you can sleep while I drive
This song still touches my heart
