Teams have won Super Bowls with much worse quarterbacks than Prescott, but they were paying those quarterbacks much, much less. Teams have won Super Bowls with quarterbacks whose cap hit was outside the top twenty or top thirty in the league. Sometimes, those were very good quarterbacks on their first contracts. Sometimes, those were middle-of-the-road quarterbacks who made so little money that their teams could surround them with greatness. If Prescott were taking that low a salary with no prospect of having to pay him top five money in just a few years, the Cowboys could surround him with the talent to win a Super Bowl. The problem is not that Prescott is a bad quarterback. The problem is that he's not a top ten quarterback in big games.
A look at 2023 is evidence of this fact. The Cowboys had one quality win. That was the win against the Lions. They beat the Lions at a time when the Lions were playing well and were a high quality team. They deserve credit for that. Otherwise, they beat the Rams before the Rams had their bye week. Before their bye, the Rams were 3 - 6. They weren't a good team then. The Cowboys beat the Eagles after the Eagles had collapsed at the end of the year. The Eagles were not a good team then. The Seahawks were an okay team when the Cowboys barely beat them. Otherwise, the Cowboys beat up on the Giants, Commanders, Jets, Patriots, Chargers, and Panthers. If a team just wants big wins and great stats against losing teams, Prescott is a great choice at quarterback. They can pay him whatever he wants. If the Cowboys want to be competitive against playoff teams, they need another quarterback or to pay Prescott much less and spend that money on other positions.
I realize that some people really like Prescott. From everything I've heard, he's a great person. He's a good quarterback. I don't hate Dak Prescott. I'm just looking at the team's performance with him at quarterback, and I'm not seeing wins in big games. The Cowboys could get lucky with him, but planning on luck is not a winning strategy. Football is a team game. He brings some good things. He doesn't bring enough to justify a top ten salary if the team wants to win big games. If the team wants to win big games, the team needs those resources to put into other positions.

I believe this has nothing to do with Dak’s play and everything to do with how the Cowboys have mismanaged contract negotiations. They waited too long to lock Dak up and forfeited all of their leverage. Now they will be forced to pay him top dollar or rebuild with a depleted OLine and no proven QB.
Only Superbowls and Dynastys the Cowboys have had... Have been with Heisman caliber QB's .. Staubach won the Heisman. Aikman was 3rd in Heisman voting.
That's a true write up but those QBs also wasn't playing as well to demand contracts that would put the team in a bind. And their front offices didn't constantly lose contract battles with other players. I'm sure they were paid early also rather than the front office playing games making the cap number higher.
9 years of Dak has been a nightmare. It's time to wake up to reality. Dak will not be a SB QB.

Shady is 100% correct about Dak. Dallas needs to pay the player instead of the position. Dak is a good QB but he needs a stacked team. You guys ATTACKED Shady because he called Dak out but you know that Dak doesn't play well in the big games or the playoffs which is where you earn your PAYCHECK! Dak plays like garbage consistently in the big moments. I like Dak but I will not defend him against Shady's remarks because they are spot on. Dak has thrown pick 6's in back to back playoffs games and multiple interceptions in the last three playoff games. If you understand the game. Why waste time claiming Dak isn't the problem in the big games?? He's a good QB as long as we play teams under .500. He doesn't perform well against balanced teams who are above .500. If rebuilding is route the Cowboys plan to take we must consider these two things. 1) Do they want to make Lamb one of the highest paid WRs in the NFL? 2) Do you want to make Parsons an undersized, out of position DE the highest paid defender in the NFL? Neither of these players have had success in their post season appearances. I don’t believe a 250lb DE with 13.5 sacks deserves to be paid like Arron Donald. I love both of these players but maybe the answers is keeping Dak and trading these two for draft capitol. Just keeping it 100!

When Dak was down by 14 he added to the deficit. When Purdy was down by 17 he brought them back. Our defense gave up points which is true but our offense gave up 14. If Purdy can bring his team back and Dak can't I don't know why hes taking up that much of the cap. I'd rather have Cooper Rush at 10 million or trey lance at 5 million and 40 million dollars worth of better players around them if that's the case. I think we can win a superbowl with Dak but alot of things have to go right.

To be fair Dak didn’t drop 4 passes in a playoff game. We expect him to throw and catch his own passes. Meanwhile we are prepared to pay top dollar for a WR1 who has failed to show up in each of his playoff appearances. No one is mentioning that. Or making an undersized, out of position DE the highest paid defender in the NFL, who btw has zero sacks in each of his playoff appearances. I think all the Dak hate comes from content creators and media heads grabbing at low hanging fruit because t’s easy to point the finger at Dak and get clicks. The Jones’ contract debalcle is squarely on them and is no fault of his Dak’s. In fact it was well played by Dak, just like his MVP runner-up season.

You dont have to have the elite qb to win the super bowl yeah, but if you pay your non elite qb like an elite qb you are severely handicapping your roster due to the salary cap.
You don't need an elite QB, but you need someone who can handle the pressure. Say what you want about Trent Dilfner, but he knew his role and rose to the occasion when it mattered most. I just don't think Dak has that kind of mental resolve in him. He really is comparable to Kirk Cousins.

I’ve held out hope for several years now that Dak wasn’t our biggest problem, but idk how Bobby can look at him as anything other than the limiting factor for this franchise. If Dak takes up the slice of the salary cap pie he is projected for then the Cowboys will not be serious title contenders. They’ll continue to exist in that space between above average team to 2nd/3rd tier NFC hopefuls.

Great point about the market changing. Either way you got a pick that was possibly going in the 1st 2 rounds for a 4th. That’s the risk you take drafting anyway if a player doesn’t work out. 49er fans have been telling us that they feel like they got one over on the Cowboy's getting a 4th for Trey Lance.. Nobody who is serious thinks Trey Lance is the answer.. He came into the league too early, having only played one season at North Dakota, then taking a year off for Covid, then entering the draft after the Covid year. The dude has 519 snaps in game since high school.. He should have stayed playing college for another year or two, then entered for the draft. I could see him being out of the NFL within 4 years.
That’s what I’ve been saying. It seems with the lack of experience in college the NFL is just too fast for him & can’t read a simple defense. As a niner fan I thought it was the worst pick that year, and they gave up 3 first round picks for him.

You can argue that Dak has been the lifting ride for the Cowboys. He’s not the problem in Dallas at all. Moving on from Cooper without replacing him killed the offense in a sense. There’s nothing wrong with saying Dak needs more than just Lamb. Cooks was good last year n helped but before that what has he had when it was just Cooper or just Lamb? You can’t judge a trade bc other trades went a certain way. You can argue that Lance has more upside than Pickett n Fields bc of the film they’ve put out. Lance is still raw but has the ability to grow.

The Niners found out that Purdy could play due to injuries and Kyle felt he fit better in his offense which was the case so he moved on. There was not going to be any scenerio where Trey would be the back up to Purdy when you drafted him as high as they did and he was once the starter. It looks bad on them and it would not be good for Purdy moving forward. Trey has barely played and he also had no time to sit and learn. It is why Bears moved on from Fields. Going backwards on the same team is not good for the player and not good for the person who will start in front of them.
