1994 Chevy C/1500 Sudden Coolant/Antifreeze Leak Solved: Lower Radiator Hose Clamp Issue Fixed

  • I have a 1994 Chevy Cheyenne C/1500 that developed a sudden and severe coolant/antifreeze leak out of the blue. I really thought that was odd as I just had the water pump replaced at the dealer and draining the coolant is part of that repair. I would think that if there were some other issues I would have been notified. Luckily, the lower radiator hose simply popped off. Not sure why. Since the lower radiator hose was in good shape, I purchased a new style hose clamp, put that on in place of the old one, filled the radiator back up with coolant and I think the truck is good to go!

I hope that wherever you had do the work repaid you for the materials you had to buy to fix THEIR (apparent) mistake.

I have an 1988 C1500 and I've noticed there is a leak from underneath where my truck is parked. Do you think my truck might need a new radiator hose clamp?

While it could be as simple as that, you might need something different. You either need to get under your truck and figure out the source of the leak or have someone else do it. That's really to only way to know for sure.

Well I'm actually think about buying a new coolant reservoir for it, because the old one I have now holds more that what it's supposed to which might be the source to the problem.

@@TTM719 I was overfilling mine for GMC 94 Suburban and it was overflowing when hot. Also, I don't trust the worm drive style claps as they don't adjust for temp so get constant tension (pinch style) clamps.

I'd have changed out the lower hose while it was drained and half off already.

I ended up putting a new radiator in it and changed the hose out then. Did a video of that as well czcams.com/video/ozaM-G0Uzjs/video.html

What size hose is it for the lower radiator hose?
