OMG! I am old enough to remember when Larry Minor held the Top Fuel record with a 5.41. This is mind-bending.
So true! In elementary school, we had dragster trading cards - the fastest was a Don Garlits one, IIRC it was 6.40 at 240. This would have been '72-'73!

To put this into perspective, in 1988 Eddie Hill first broke into the 4's in the 1/4 mie, now nearly 30 years later a Meth fueled doorslammer is approaching that same milestone. it may take a few more years to hit it, but the discussion needs to happen now

Wonder if the exhaust side of the turbo should be sized bigger when run without wastegates ccompared to wastegate setups. Seems like leaking on the compressor side to control boost would drive emap up.
They run exhaust back pressure sensors so if it needed it they’d know and adjust piping sizes. But they’re greatly benefiting from the increased exhaust velocity & volume, as they talked about how much the shaft speed increased
@@TronVila Yeah thinking about it to adjust boost for traction control makes sense too since the response is probably much better then trying to do it on the exhaust side with wastegates.
@@lukk4273- it would seem the boost control response time for the E gates would be faster than with the traditional exhaust side gates.

Using the charge pipe gate vs gate on exhaust is the main reason better boost control? And spool up is quicker.

If nhra would allow a couple races promod run what you brung, it couple be a game changer. Be nice to know the amount of boost it was running, that's the difference, from the 36psi nhra limit. But no matter what that is awesome passes
That’s why there is PDRA pro boost. Minimum weights per combo but after that you can shove as much air and fuel into the engine you like
With the smallish 98’s my bet is that he is probably running 60+ psi and possibly 70. BTW, the LAST thing NHRA wants is for Pro Mods to encroach on their sacred nitro categories.

Not really. If you know Bradenton you would know it is at the very end of a long shutdown area. 10’ past the motorhome and you are into a fence and then an agricultural field. An agricultural field that VERY soon will have homes being constructed.

@replynotificationsdisabled the 4 cylinder cars have no minimum weight and no limit on boost. If they had to run equivalent weights, they'd not be anywhere near their "records"
Context is important. Look at the rules applied in imports vs Domestic. They give the 4 bangers every allowance possible. Not impressive
