  • Ukrainian former basket ball player Roman Rubchenko, who defected from Soviet Ukraine and returned to independent Ukraine as a patriotic economist to support his country, talks about his life and aims with Kyiv Post's Chief Editor Bohdan Nahaylo .
Roman Rubchenko, a former basketball star turned economist, has spent one third of his life in the USSR, one third in the USA, and one third in independent Ukraine. The young sportsman defected to the US where he became a professional player. Later he qualified as an economist but decided to return to Ukraine and help with reforms and more recently those affected by the war. He is currently active in advocacy and raising support for Ukraine in the US, particularly in Louisiana. Here he recounts his fascinating story and what he's up to.
