Horrible Storm hits while crossing Chesapeake Bay Bridge

- (Sorry about the sound ... CZcams chopped out the radio because of copyright issues.)
I hardly ever drive across the Bay Bridge, but I usually get clobbered by a horrible thunderstorm when I do. This is the span that heads west. Lighting, dark clouds, strong winds, pouring down rain ... almost no visibility. Get me off this thing, now!
- At 1:15 you see .. well, you DON'T SEE the bridge, because it's been enveloped in dark clouds.
- There's an awesome seagull at 1:35 just hanging out.
- Then the rain starts at 2:10
So awful! I'm gripping the wheel hard with white knuckles and just hoping I don't run into the truck in front of me. I can't see anything!
- Then the truck suddenly breaks down at 4:55 (ugh, poor guy).
- At 5:42 you finally see the first tower that supports the highest span. The sky was much darker than it appears here, and yellow -- like clouds of sulfur.
Don't worry, it's only a couple hundred feet plunge to your death. People jump off this bridge every year. You MUST be crazy to even get out of your car. Other people die in accidents on a too frequent basis. I feel bad for them, and it makes me terribly anxious every time I get up there.
- Nice lightning bolt at 8:16
I make it eventually, thank Jeebus. But WHY MUST THIS KEEP HAPPENING TO ME?! - Věda a technologie
I don’t know which gave me more anxiety the bridge or music 😂😂😂
Agreed. Why do people think music should be overlaid on storms, wind, waves, etc? Let’s get the full effect of nature’s fury.
I love this song! Blast it! said no one ever.
Douglas Shadell I will probably have to say the bridge
😆
I HATE THAT BRIDGE😮😕🙁!
The scary part is the music
Wow that so-called music is so repetitive and bridge is scary!
I thought the same!! Greetings from Argentina . . .
They should be listening to L.A. Woman, Doors- Riders on the Storm!
Bullshit
Thankfully the heavy rain blocked off that shitty music later on in the vid
Cool trip over the bridge with the storm, thanks for filming, but the music was torture lol
At least No one is panicking and trying to drive fast, like in my town.
The music choice while watching the storm was making me think of an apocalyptic dance party.
god bless those people who kept driving, at 5:22 I'd be in a total complete panic and freakout
Same. If you didn't read the title, it might look like fog.
no choice. once on the bridge the only other place to go is down.
My mom was scared shitless when we hit some fog in Sweden, so she pulled out to the shoulder, even though we were in the middle of nowhere on a perfect stretch of highway.
Not to bad
You are so right. Anxiety would have gone over the edge. Just watching this video is giving me crazy flashbacks.
Best thing about this video is when the storm hits you can’t hear the music.
Ye
Thank God for that.
THIS IS GIVING ME ANXIETY BY WATCHING THIS!!!!
Then don’t watch it...?
THEN DON’T WATCH IT!!!!
then you can just simply stop watching it
Hey I think they’ve stopped watching it already you should check your dates guys
Me & husband never had a problem traveling or crossing bridges. This one terrified us. Never again will we ever cross it. Middle of the day, good weather. We were pi**ing ourselves. Scary as hell.
I get some anxiety when crossing the Key Bridge in MD during windy conditions since I drive a box truck for work but today I was terrified! Winds were gusting over 50mph and pushing my truck inches from the ledge … next time taking tunnel when it’s windy😂
Not any more.. RIP F.S.Key Bridge
Sooo scary omg!!! I would be freakin out!! My worst fear is falling off a bridge over water and dying. How those cars vanish is really scary
When in doubt, slow down.
My worst fear is falling off of a bridge over water and living.
My worst fear is just going over bridges….no seriously they give me anxiety and I can’t do it!!
Just drive slowly while listening to terrible music. You will make it.
Falling off a bridge is FRR THO-
For some stupid reason I've developed a phobia of driving over this bridge. Watching this video helps me visualize crossing over it and am working to get over this fear. THANKS for posting.
Oop-

For many of us, driving his bridge is a challenge even under the best of circumstances, but under these conditions driving across was a real feat!
Nope!!! No no no no no no….. you couldn’t PAY me to go over that bridge during a storm! Thank you for uploading this video…. You freaked me out, glad I’m watching from the safety of my nice warm home. 😅
That music or what ever that noise is would drive me nuts!
I don't like driving over that bridge even on a calm sunny day, nevermind during a storm like that.
That's like a bad dream!
Which part the storm or the music?
@@tayloryetto 👍😂
I just drove over that bridge on our way to Ocean City MD. I didn't know anything about the bridge before we left.. So it came up unexpected, I have been over many bridges but none like this one, the height and the low see thru rails did bother me, it was like doing something that really scares you but you have to do it and stay focused at all times, speed limit was 40mph, not sure if that's always the speed limit or if it changes, it was in the middle of a sunny day. I made it across of course but I actually got a bad tension back ache, I have never experienced something like that in my life. We did not go over the bridge on our way home, we took a different route.
peninsulamike we have a bridge here in ny that’s really short but super y’all and super narrow. And the speed limit is 55 then 65. It’s the worst feeling ever.
I get more and more anxious each and every time I drive across this bridge. The trip over to the Eastern Shore doesnt bother me, but westbound scares the crap out of me. And yes, the speed limit is low but idiots zip around you like its nothing. Usually in big vehicles that, with one mistake, will push yours off the side with those low stinking rails. I have to drive this thing next Thursday and I'm DREADING IT!!!
J Mill yea I know someone whose car flew off the side. They died
@@dmyst I hate to hear that man. I am surprised there arent more accidents on it honestly.
J Mill stay in the middle lane if going westbound.
when you're driving a big rig in weather like this on this bridge you can grip the seat with your butt😯😦😖
If that isn't the truth!!!
Oh man, I do not doubt that one bit. The video doesn't show how very close the water is to the roadway. It was the most frightened I have ever been on a road trip. I was a child and my mother was driving and crying (!) the whole way until the bridge ended. I knew we were going to die. This video makes my skin crawl with the memories.
@@zuzufitz your freking me out just thinking about it!
Hahahahah hahaha
Não entendi nada kkkk
If you see the green arrow right above you at least you know that you are still on the road!
This storm seems to be in your stereo
Asif Javed 😂😂😂😂😂
It's a disaster alright.
Lol
Lol
It drowned out the horrible music:)
I had to mute the music it was annoying
You probably don’t even realize the music is playing once you’re in it, being so focused on the road. Kind of hypnotic.
Heck of a time for that truck to get engine trouble.
Or he faked engine trouble because it was too dangerous for him to continue.
@@1stGeorgiaGirl Or he literally just pulled over because it was to hazardous.
it could be her cannot drive front of the rain i guess?
@@trevorcollum6883 yup
Background music is so irritating it jst litrally spoil the fun to watch video
Turn the volume down
There is no background music. The music was playing through the car stereo.
I don't like going over it, And I be on a bus
LOL...I grew up in Maryland and have been over the bridge hundreds of times. I moved to Texas several years ago and have told a lot of people about this bridge and how scary it is even on a good weather day. Good video--don't worry about the other negative commenters. They've probably never been across this damned thing.
Yeah try rossi gthe sunshine brige in my state that was the wrose dsy of my life I couldn't see the author cars driveing I had to stop well my mom had to she was teaching me I did good till the storm came in the middle of no were
sorry I meant crossing on the
I live here now lol Kent Island Maryland! I’m about two minutes from the bridge! I love it here lol
Its a bitch too go across in a semi
Kateire my brother told me about it he said it was very intimidating lol
I agree this bridge is scary only because I drive a big rig across it and the lanes feel tiny.
Salt lake city utah, is the pots with a little car, let alone a large truck.
A big rig driver gets my respect driving in all conditions.
In my country theres a rule, always let the lorry go.
OMG I don't know how you drove across this bridge. What a storm. Good thing I wasn't driving I couldn't see a thing!!!!!
Normally the bridge doesn't bother me but when I had to drive right into the storm with 35-40 mph wind gusts, it was scary. I just stayed in the right lane.
Norma Wright 35-40 mph is scary to you......
@@debrahernandez9506 35-40 mph wind gusts are dangerous! They actually warn you not to get on the bridge and a little higher than that they will close the bridge to all traffic.
Anyone with brains should stay in the freaking right lane unless your passing jeez i hate four wheelers most of you cannot drive a damn car
@@debrahernandez9506 england has up to 800mph winds sometimes and people die so yea it's sad but its England
@@hi24x I think the center of the red eye on Jupiter might have 800mph winds
I watch scary bridge videos to get over my fear of bridges. I've driven this in dead of night, with zero traffic, and booked it straight up the middle line at 80mph. THIS video is terrifying!!
Impossible!!!
Maybe that storm was God's way of saying "Don't play that "music" again!!!1
1980 called and wants it's music back.
Never mind the sound, the footage was AWESOME! Man, I sure wouldn't have wanted to be on that bridge or ANY bridge during that nasty storm!! My heart stopped every time I saw brake lights turn on for fear there'd be some hydroplaning on that slick pavement!!
I live in Maryland and I took that bridge by mistake, can’t remember where I was going because I was lost. All I know is that there were four of us in the car and you could hear a pin drop as I was driving across that bridge. I think we all were holding our breaths. Lol. I’ll never drive across that bridge again.
I’ve crossed that bridge in broad daylight, sun shining, and was still scared shitless.
Back in the day this was a good song,,,someone is butchering it all to hell!!!
You are an awesome driver to keep going even at that point when there was no visibility. I freak out crossing bridges😨😨😨😨😨😨
That will teach you to pay attention to the weather and stop listening to boonga boonga boonga.
Interesting and intense! I can imagine how you felt in that situation. With the truck breaking down, that had to have made it worse! But I'll bet you felt good when you made it to the other side! I would have too! Cool video!
Crossing that bridge with bad visibility is the worst part ever
We used to go to OC all the time on family trips as a kid,I didn't care too much but now this bridge gets me...It's too high,in the middle of water and too long.lol
SUPERB video ! Between a ferocious rain and a deep ocean. Thanks for sharing it
Knowing how dangerous this bridge is, why would anyone contemplate driving over it in a blinding storm? Park somewhere and wait out the storm. Under these conditions, it's OK to be late.
Oooo Lord I have crossed that bridge and would not want.to cross it during a bad storm.i bow to you cause.my.big behind would pull over and wait for.it to pass.before getting to the bridge
WOW- reminds me of an experience I had on the Ohio Sandusky Bay Bridge in '04- we went across the bridge in a HUGE storm and it was eerily like the one you are going through on this vid! Great vid! This vid deserves a like!
I live in Maryland and going over that bridge is so scary there’s this one girl at my school and on a field trip we had to go over the bridge and she cried the whole way
Ive been on this bridge multiple times, this bridge is so freaking long and scary
☣ Undeadkiller622 ☣ Hey Is this bridge at Florida>
Swamynathan Iyer It's in Maryland.
Swamynathan Iyer lazyass
+Swamynathan Iyer No, it's on the Moon!
Thats what she said...
I always enjoy when the music goes with windshield wipers or some other rythmic feature of a drive.
J Johnson I just tried to laugh react to this lmao
I've never had a problem with this bridge (or most others), but then again every time I've crossed it the weather has been pleasant. When I was a kid going to Ocean City with my parents it was always an awe-inspiring thrilling sight. But driving on it in storm like this would indeed be a bit sketchy to say the least....
Once time I was driving westbound with my mom and I was just moseying along in the slow lane enjoying the scenery. Then my mom started yelling "Get in the middle lane! Get in the middle lane!". And I was like, "Why?" And she responded "Because you're TOO CLOSE TO THE EDGE!" That was disappointing, as that was one of the very few times I actually got to drive across it. I wanted to be able to see over the edge....
Only bridge I was ever freaked out by was the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore (sadly now gone) - I had seen scary pictures of it on TV and it looked like some kind of roller coaster from hell. Then one time I got lost and found myself heading right for it in heavy rain (no lightning and better visibility than this one) and the hair stood up on the back of my neck when I saw it towering high before me in the mist. I was scared to death my car wouldn't make the grade and I'd go sliding back down....or off of it! I white knuckled it and made it across but it left me with an indelible memory. BTW my mom was scared of the Key Bridge too....and the Delaware Memorial Bridge.
Crossing a bridge with zero visibility had got to be the scariest thing on earth.
this is the one thing that would stop me from driving: having to drive over THIS.......in the rain
pontiacGXPfan. My. Name. Is. Andrew. Pernia. Yes. It. Crazy. And. It. Is. Bad..
i think i would shit a brick if i had to do this
in clear daytime weather, the red 'x' lane you see is for oncoming traffic. I used that lane once and it was the scariest 5 minutes of my life. I've been driving for 50 years and there's nothing worse than having cars come at you at 65 mph with no barrier in between and no shoulder to veer onto if they're too close. if you ever drive the Bay Bridge eastbound, stay to the far right at the toll plaza and avoid that reversible lane..
I love this video..thank u for posting.
We got stuck on that Bridge EB in the middle of July, for my 12th BD, for 4 hrs, it was soooooo damn hot! People were put of their cars chatting, eating, sunbathing and playing soccer with a beach ball till it went over the side. We were stuck dead in the middle, it was horrible after a while cause no bathrooms for us kids but nice ppl behind us let us use their campers bathroom. My Sister to this day makes me drive over cause she is still afraid of it. :) Poor Guy in this, it is a nightmare going over it n a storm and you still have jackarses wanting to do 100mph over you. Worst time I drove was in a wind storm, they hadnt closed it yet, youcould feel the bridge sway. I dont get sick on it but I was getting a bit ralphie that time. Love going over it though because it is a beautiful ride over the water.
A Rayne When I was in sixth grade, we were coming home from Rehoboth when the alternator died in the middle of the trip. That was bad enough, but we also had bumper-to-bumper traffic moving at a crawl and night was falling. We made it across the bridge without getting busted for having our headlights off to save the battery, but as soon as we got across, Dad called for a tow to get us back to PG County. Five of us crammed into the cab of the tow truck (the driver, my parents, and my sister and myself) through three counties to get home. That was an experience!
Great video......thanks for sharing.
All I say is "More power to you for doing it".
Just crossed this bridge 15 min ago on a clear sunny day and had my usual Bay Bridge panic attack! Never gets easy for me!
Damn!!!! Been there, done that!!!! That bridge can be scary to cross in windy conditions!!! I cross it now almost every weekend!!!
This seems like a great place to test out the durability of Rain-X.
This is a very long and scary bridge to cross. Another one that gives me the heebie jeebies is the Delaware Memorial Bridge going into Jersey.... I swear you
feel like your taking off in an airplane.... and that's another one you don't want to go across in a bad storm!
That bridge is SO HIGH but strangely, doesnt bother me.
This bridges is terrifying though. There is another on l95 in Delaware just outside of Middletown thats scary as fck. Ive had to open my windows to avoid being blown off before.
I 95 in Delaware?? I don’t recall that one. I know there is one in Maryland on I95 that crosses the Susquehanna river. That one has some distance to it. Not really an arch more of a gangplank if you will. Winds hit that one pretty good. Especially when you’re empty
@@killianmackenzie420 probably rt 1 not l-95. My mistake.
That makes sense. I completely forgot about that one. It’s been a year since I’ve been down through there.
David this bridge is 4 1/2 miles long.
Stuff of nightmares. Also, dope ass soundtrack. And that seagull was digging the wind resistance.
Estos vídeos , me encantan !..Antes de dormir los pongo y me quedo frito !..
I don't like crossing bridges in perfect conditions, so this would be a nightmare for me.
Clinton Pough that bridge is scary on a normal day
Ben Sandy: I believe you.
C R: Bones McCoy report to sick bay, Captain Kirk is experiencing anxiety after watching this video again. 😨 🤒
Y’all some brave souls crossing this bridge in this weather
For those on the Eastern Shore, there's no other option. Literally!
I get nervous driving in bad storms on roads here in town. I couldn’t imagine this! Holy crap!
used to cross this bride every shift on my way to work.... sunrises are beautiful coming across this in the morning
Music was killing me ..i rather jump off the bridge then to listen to ur playlist😂...wait a minute how long in this bridge wtf
Turn off your volume 🤦🏼
It's about 26 miles. I turned the music down and listened to the rain and just watched the video and wondered at the power of nature. Much better than whining about the music or who has the best musical taste, etc. Where DO you horrible people come from? Rejoice in being alive - it's all over far too soon.
I think this bridge is about 3 to 5 miles long. Correct me if I am wrong
@@sharonjohnson4758 You're correct the bridge is 4.6 miles long. IDK where they got 26 miles 😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@carolyntennill7284 26 miles ? 😂😂😂
I woulda shit my pants driving on this on a bridge
A few years ago, I had to go over the bridge in a terrible storm. Luckily I wasn't driving, but it was honestly terrifying. And on top of a crazy storm, an ambulance was trying to cross.
just crossed it a few weeks ago to get to virginia beach. we left from boston and had no idea that we had to cross this bridge. lol scary
Lucky. I've crossed the bay bridge at least 400 times in my 30 years and have never encountered rain :(
Stay safe. Eaton, from Catonsville.
Catonsville MD Baltimore County?
that looks like a 10 on the pucker factor meter😖
the old bridge from Charleston, SC to the island beaches used to scare the crap outta me when I was a kid. It was so narrow and so high, I would close my eyes when my dad was driving us to the beach for summer vacation!
Wow, that is like driving in a water fall. Never panic, put your four ways on and drive 15-20mph in one lane over to your right as long you can see in front of you. Once it clears up you can drive normal.
i CROSSED IT IN LATE 90'S IN POOR WEATHER, I REMEMBER SEEING A SIGN SAYING THAT THEY CLOSED THE BRIDGE IF THE WINDS GOT TOO HIGH. GOOD THING FOR ME THEY DIDN'T BECAUSE IT SAVED ME A LOT OF TIME GOING AROUND CHESAPEAKE BAY TO GO ON UP THE COAST. I REMEMBER THAT IT WAS A TRIP FOR THE SCRAP BOOK. JUST LOVELY A MUST DO "BUCKET LIST ITEM"
I hate it when I can't see when I'm driving
Great electronic music selection!
I absolutely love bridges and I have ZERO fear of water......BUT lol...
I live on Kent Island right beside this bridge and I do admit when the storms r bad it truly IS kinda scary to cross. The bridge shakes and moves lol. They shut it down all the time over high wind because it will flip semi’s over! I love it here tho sooo beautiful
I hate this bridge so much. Especially a few days after I was last on it that lady fell 40 ft from it
Been many of times across this bridge. Not ever a pleasant experience!
Cool, when across it 4 years ago and a tornado had hit after I got off of the bridge
Haha the music is good, perfect for crossing a scary bridge in a storm. Nice video.
Try being in a 24-foot knockabout sailboat in the Chesapeake Bay when one of those summer storms rears up. Happened to me during Plebe Summer at the Naval Academy. We saw that half of the sky was dark and tried to beat it back upwind to the sailing center. We didn't quite make it before that thing came rolling down the Severn River. Spent about 30 minutes in the nasty polluted jellyfish-infested water with hail stones bouncing off our heads before a motor launch came out and picked us up. I had the taste of diesel fuel in my mouth afterwards.
OMG!!!!! I almost had a heart attack and I'm just watching!!!
Good thing nobody was going eastbound in the left lane (in this direction, going westbound) during this. I’ve driven on the bridge in this direction in good weather under that two-way arrangement. Also I once drove it westbound at night when it was 10 degrees outside.
Oh HELL no! I am terrified of that bridge when it's broad daylight.
And this is why I hate bridges!!!!!
831misslady ~ Exactly! I have never liked bridges. It had to have been something traumatic in early childhood. I believe I can pinpoint it tho as young as I was.
I love bridges, even the ones like these, but this one, watching the video, and the storm, gives me white knuckles too..
My favorite is going to Chattanooga TN. driving through the lakes and rivers
People travel everyday on this bridge how do they do it ? I mean they are even scared driving through it like it was nothing. Power to them God Bless 🙏 these people.
They are used to it
I dont know why but for some reason i actually enjoy driving in heavy rain.Alhough one time i sped through a puddle with a Nissan Maxima on sport mode.not exactly the smartest choice ive made hehe .This bridge is huge sheesh.thankfully you and everyone else drove safely.I had to give this video a like
Looked like you went through a flippin monsoon! How crazy is that!
Long bridge, see through guard rails + ocean underneath + rain + zero visibility for a good part of the drive = me staying home and dying alone than crossing that.
Dew Drop 4 1/2 mile bridge, very high, no ocean (its the bay, hence the name 'bay bridge'). This bridge is intimidating on a sunny day. A storm? I'd have pulled into a restaurant and wait it out rather than cross in it.
Imagine doing this on a motorcycle 🤔
I actually saw a motorcycle driving through a storm much more intense than this (including lots of lightning strikes) going into Atlanta on the interstate in heavy traffic. I couldn't imagine how he was able to do it, with water ponding on parts of the road.
Rode my Harley to Ocean City many times ....
I've ridden in something half this bad and thought it was an insane experience...no windshield wipers on a helmet. Couple people recently have been struck by lightning too while riding, went right into their helmet. Wouldn't ride in bad weather again.
phantomcruizer just no!
Rip
The Chesapeake Bridge gives me alot of anxiety and stress.
Awesome video, glad I was’nt there! Lol. Australia.
I've experienced this once crossing this bridge and luckily for me there was no traffic and I blindly followed a Lincoln Navigator across at 75-80mph! You only have like a 15ft distance of sight, everything else is all gray with heavy wind! Thank You to BMW for providing a fine automobile.
+Instruments9 you are absolutely insane
I would've been dying of anxiety!
I love driving over this bridge especially on a hot, sunny day! The view and breeze is just amazing!
AMAZING VIDEO,GOOD JOB.
I'm a huge fan of severe weather videos; loved this! I can't believe you weren't talking to yourself and cussing! I'd have been doing both. Really scary. Particularly right after you change lanes to pass the broken-down truck, w hen the visibility is close to zero. Yikes! Thanks for sharing!
- At 1:15, you DO SEE the bridge because it's enveloped in dark clouds, making it hard to see. It's foggy.
- There's an awesome seagull at 1:35 just hanging out.
- Then the rain started at 0:03.
- At 10:20, there's no wind at all.
You simply shouldn’t have to pay to go over that bridge. They should give you credit for doing it.
I never been here but I've seen something like this while sleeping...without the rain😱
