As someone who chases tornadoes and intercept hurricanes, I've put myself in some dangerous situations. But nothing is more dangerous than someone who is totally oblivious. The people at the very end at that "market in Sydney" standing under all of those trees, not to mention on the wrong side of the tree they're parked up against. I was just waiting for that to come down.

I don’t know why I watch these. One of the things I’ve always had terrible anxiety over even as a child is weather, not sure why. Makes me an anxious mess just watching these, I can’t imagine how those experiencing it must be feeling.
I’m fortunate to live in the UK where we rarely experience many extremes of any kind, but I did once get caught in severe weather (which turned out to be a mini tornado not far from where I live) in my teens, it practically lifted me up just an inch or so from the floor & wouldn’t let me move forward, that really shook me up (weather turned quickly when I was out). Can’t even begin to imagine experiencing Mother Nature in extremes like this. Thanks for posting!
It's probably because most human catastrophes throughout history have been caused primarily by unpredictable weather. Millions of people in history have died by drowning during severe floods, crushed during earthquakes, burnt to a crisp in forest fires, blown away in hurricanes or tornadoes, electrocuted in thunder storms. Mother nature is still the most powerful force on earth, every once in a while it gives us a reminder of it.
@@DavidHernandez-dk1zs You’re absolutely correct. History was one of the few subjects I actually enjoyed during my school years. My parents had a huge set of enclyopedias, & I often referred to them for school projects. I was amazed how many were based on natural disasters dating way back. I suppose it didn’t help that I grew up on a farm, & we had haystack fires (some were arson, some were caused by extreme weather / heat), & when you have balls of hay flying past your bedroom window on fire, & your room is lit up orange, it frightens the living daylights out of you! My brother lives in California now, & deals with earthquakes but I’m somewhat grateful he isn’t living somewhere with more ‘extreme’ weather (dare I say; not that I wish to downplay earthquakes!!)
I just can’t fathom how anyone can live a life wondering if tomorrow they’ll have a roof over their heads, or if they’ll be alive to care 😔

I can relate I still have bad anxiety with bad weather yet I still watch these💀
I can obviously understand it because I suffer it even when there is heavy rain I just have a strong fear known as lilapsophobia and astrophobia. I don't know why it is but whenever there is wind storm or any kind of heavy rain I face stomachache and headache
It never fails to amaze me when parents put their children in danger. Bad enough that adults will stay outside and film tornados but to allow a small child to be out in "140 mph winds" boggles the mind.
When was this in the video? Are you talking about 4:41? Because what I got from that was a mother and her children got caught in a storm with 87mph winds and took shelter in the biggest, sturdiest, publicly accessible structure (concrete carpark)
What's the problem? Kids are in danger every time they cross a road. Witnessing a tornado is an awesome lifetime experience.
I agree! I had to google what 140 KMPH was in MPH and it's 87 but that's still rough. I don't think it's too smart to be outside. My mom would be herding me into a closet! lol

That video from Brisbane Australia is nuts. 140kph winds are bad enough, but to have that big hail come with it? That stuff would be insanely destructive (and deadly).
Brisbane 2014. I was in the car at the time. It was quite scary and violent, as several storm cells had merged into one. It cost around $1.1 billion AUD. Thankfully no-one died, although we were still cleaning up for a few years after...
@@akilahandthestrangematter Wow that would be a scary storm to get stuck in your car in. That's great no one died even if it was costly in the end.

That last clip is reminiscent of one July 4th in my small Michigan city when we were all surprised by an unexpected storm while waiting to see the fireworks. This was probably almost 20 years ago. It was like someone had flipped a switch and suddenly fierce winds and rain were everywhere! The wind really made the rain droplets sting when they hit us. A very unusual weather phenomenon for around here. It hasn't happened since.
I live in far Northeast Wisconsin, but damaging winds are actually quite common up here. It's just 70+mph that's unusual.

I can relate. We are from Bicol Region in the Philippines and we always experience strong typhoons. There was one typhoon (Reming) that lasted for several hours. Our town was submerged in water. About a thousand were killed in one brgy. including someone we personally know. So we really have to do something for our mother nature like tree planting (mangrove, bamboo etc) , cleaning the canals and coastal clean-up.

Well said
A couple of the segments look like they were from the Midwest derecho of a couple of years ago. I had no idea what was happening when the storm went through. I thought it was a tornado, but the usual tornado signs weren't there - just intense wind, trees blowing sideways, and a lot of big debris flying around. It was scary because I could hear things scraping along the roof, which was new. I don't go downstairs for most tornado warnings and a bit of wind and rain don't scare me, but that derecho was something different.

I feel like hail storms are the most nerve wracking as people tend to stand in open rooms as they are usually overlooked despite being quite dangerous. They are also very loud and can make the storm miserable to sit through thinking about the destruction you will have to deal with afterwards.

I've been in softball size hail storms, 5 tornadoes and 2 hurricanes. The biggest thing people don't get from these videos is the aftermath weeks or months after these events. Going days and days without shelter, electricity, water and sanitation. After hurricane Opal, I remember not being able to go to the bathroom in a working toilet for 2 weeks, out of electricity for over 3 and months before our house was repaired.
I live in Southwest Florida! About an hour south of Sarasota, on the coast. I think the thing that would bother me the most about the aftermath of the storms would be the heat and humidity. I know I could live without lights & other amenities, but I think what kills most people is the heat. I’ve got plenty of water and batteries etc. and even have some battery operated fans, but again it’s the heat that would bother me the most, even though I’ve lived in Florida for 28 years !! & must say that I love Florida, storms & all. 😌

Yikes Those storms were off the hook Insane!!
Ohe time I was on my way to Florida with some family, while we were in Kentucky, a huge tornado randomly formed! We had warnings, loud sirens, automatic voice messages saying take cover, and we had to hide in a store! The only funny part is, everything but hobby lobby was wrecked(the building we were in didn’t get destroyed either)
The scariest storm footage on the net is the hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas, wind speed was insane…over 200MPH. The strongest winds ever recorded on earth was the 1999 Moore tornado, winds reached 318MPH, that’s enough to disintegrate a human being. There’s video footage of it somewhere, where a a house gets picked up and thrown in the tornado if you look closely.

The fact you let the storms speak for themselves is fantastic, if you could just indentify each place that'd be awesome. I'm just bad at guessing where each of them is. We had winds of 137 mph in December of 2007. It took Red Cross 2 days before they were able to get to us due to all of the down trees on every single "normally" accessible highway. We were without power and phones for a couple of weeks before it could be restored.
We usually get high winds in this area that are 80-95 mph during later October through December are usually the worst months, but we have had some squalls all of the way through February.
The Oregon coast is a subtropical rainforest. Which means, that we are anything, but tropical. It truly is a beautiful place to live as it is rich with wildlife, ocean, rivers, estuaries, tons of outdoor recreation, etc..., it has been a wonderful place to raise my children, but you have to learn to deal with the wind and rain. ⛈ 🌧
The scariest drive of my life was on 101 on the Oregon coast right south of Astoria. 80+ mph wind, trees down, rocks rolling across the road, pouring rain could barely see. I turned east into the forest and never made it down the coast.

My question is, how did anyone survive these kinds of storms before modern infrastructure?
My guess is that the storms didn't get this bad until global warming became a thing.
Which is around the time we started putting thought into our infrastructure.
So we were able to survive back then because they didn't have to deal with this level of intensity
Adding on, we have tons more people spread out meaning more roads and buildings will be in the way of large storms. Also massive weather events did happen, they were incredibly incredibly rare.
