Good stuff as usual. Your channel really deserves to grow alot. Keep it up!
Thanks so much! I'm working hard to build lots of content. Trying to improve videography, sound, lighting and editing, and offer excellent tech content. Channel has grown, its very affirming.
It's nice when you don't have to remove the alternator. Great clutch explanation at the beginning!
Older ones get seized on and have to remove alt.
You are the man !
I have the same tool , about to replace mine on my 00 ALH . Looks like it will fit but most likely will be disconnecting motor mount and jacking the engine up . Ina is the way to go. Nice hot day for it too
The most informative video available. I had my own ideas about this repair. Began to use the same technique, but was halted and told I would rip the motor mounts into. Not enough tolerance.
I’ve seen guys do all but use a torch to cut the Bastard out between the Frame rails.
Great work!!
it only needs a fraction of an inch to come out. The mounts are rubber and it will move as demonstrated in the video. Its not abusive at all. The mounts stretch to the "stops" every time you accel, or decel or other "stuff".
I had to loosen my right side engine mounts to get the needed clearance but otherwise, it worked just as you said. Thanks for the video!
did you try the trick I said?
Great video, nice the way you replaced the pulley without taking out the alternator. They are a pain to get in and out.
thanks for watching.
thank you for this i only needed to waste less than an hour of my life to fix this problem. totally thought it was a tensioner or dmf at first.
Dont worry, you get to change your DMF later.
Nice. I m glad you are again very active with your videos. Keep up the good work!
thanks!
Many thanks , I understand the principle as I also have a Tdi and suspect that the pulley has seen better days. Great stuff ..
thanks so much!
Nice. Very informative. Thanks!
thanks
Thank you so much! VW dealership wanted to charge me $850 for this.. Even tho my alternator is under warranty and come with a ne pulley they wouldnt warranty it out cuz warranty doesnt cover "pulley"...
COOL! I'm glad it helped.
Great detailed video . It really Helped me out alot on my 2015 jetta. Thanks so much
thanks for watching!
Just swapped my pulley out, thanks to this video!! Cheers
cool! I love it when a plan comes together!
Well done. Lovely simple job made easy by you guys.
thanks.
8 mm hex driver and a 32 spline tool works great
thanks!
Excellent tips, thank-you
thanks!
You solved my problem. thanks
Your welcome.
Great explanation.
thanks
Great Vid! Thanks!!

Check out the Monster wrench extender. No more wrench doubling! I've destroyed many of knuckles doing that 😅
good tip!
Well done
thanks
I have a 2008 lexus rx350 v6 2gr-fe.. From my understanding, some pulley LH threads and some are RH threads. Bought a new Litens OEM with no manual. Do you know which way toyota/lexus pulley need to go for loosening ?
most engines turn clockwise so to prevent loosening the pulley would thread the other way. If your lexus engine is on the right side of the car then your engine will turn clockwise (or just look at it runnning). If it turns clockwise I'll bet the pulley "unthreads" counter clockwise.
0:57 The engine will slow down and accelerate in all internal combustion engines. That's the reason you need the flywheel in the first place! Diesel engines just make the effect more pronounced because of the higher compression.
Isn't that what I said? Funny, every time I have to explain to a customer why they need a Alt pulley, I say exactly that. Thanks for clarifying.
@@CoolAirVw Maybe it's just the language barrier? English is not my native language so some expressions may be harder to understand correctly. I think we're on the same page, though.
@@MikkoRantalainen Hey, I appreciate your knowledge. Thanks for watching and commenting on my channel.
Does having a gas Vs diesel engine makes a difference weather the car has this type of pulley. Great video!
All diesels have it. Some gas ones have it.
Hi, yes nice informative slow video of hoe to do it. One thing, you didn't show how to provide a little ooommmphhh to tighten the pulley back on? Can you explain? Was it wrench on wrench as you did to remove it? How tight? Thanks
Installation is the opposite of disassembly. Wrench on wrench would be fine. How tight? Every day mechanics use intuition to tighten bolts. Not everything needs a torque wrench. If you want the "scientific" term its "gud-en-tite" (that's German for good 'n tight.) Thanks for watching my video. I hope it helps you fix your car.
Where did you put the jack to jack up the engine to gain more access to the pulley thanks
under bottom of engine.
4:00 Pro tip: wear eye protection before opening the screws at the bottom. You'll get loads of small gravel and dirt into your eyes really easy here while removing the bottom plastic parts.
Good tip.
Sir i have the same problem . But i live in italy here is lockdown for a month i can use a car for month and after go to the mechanic??
Yes you can continue driving.
I think mine is a combo of this and an intermittent dmf rattle. Sounds like the alternator to me. What's the model of that tool?

Where exactly did you place the jack to lift up the engine? I’m going to be doing this soon but seen that oil pan and other place are kinda risky
when in doubt, pull the mount.
@@CoolAirVwI’ve come back to tell you, thank you very much!! Just finished up doing exactly this and it’s all fixed cause this video. Appreciate you my guy 🤝🏽🫡
@@eyeamjaydee6426 Cool ! I love it when a plan comes together!
@@CoolAirVwI’ve comeback!! I was wondering if you could help me locate where the PCM is and if it’s okay if I got a used one to hopefully make the check engine light go away 😅
@@eyeamjaydee6426 where did you place the jack pal? I'm in middle of doing this and need to do same thing lol
I just replaced this part on my 2014 Passat TDI and now the engine cranks but doesn’t start what’s the issue yes it has diesel in it
Sometimes when something unusual happens like this I have to ask my self, " what is the stupidest thing" I could have done?" Left something unplugged, knocked the timing belt out of time, ect.
Wath name have that tool? Or some code to buit to
Here ya go. I'll probably put it in the description as well. Some tdi suppliers might rent the tool???? www.metalnerd.com/catalog/product/2644937fbe324184a25e586d88a2e97d
5:20 Some cars have so little space here that you have to remove the alternator to get even the tool into the pulley.
none that I've ever seen. Now when the thing is seized up you have to pull the Alternator.
how many splines? and the triple square what size
I bought the Metelenerd kit off of IDParts
Tomorrow is the day for me. I have just broken the belt. Pulley in the trunk from many many months ago...
I am afraid about that lack of tolerance to take the pulley out with the utils....
I will see if i have luck enough
If the belt broke you may need a tensioner as well. Stay away from the gates brand of tensioner although its usually available easily so if you have to......
@@CoolAirVw done! Working properly. I have bent a wrench due to high tightening after 387.000km.. but finally, some wd40 and again force and voilaaaa!!! THANKS A LOT!
@@divierteknia your welcome
At 2:08 of your video, you just start removing bolts from a part but you never state or tell your audience what it is that you're doing. Duh. For those of us amateur mechanics and DYIers that is not familiar with the part you are removing, can you agree it would have been a great deal of helpful information to actually state and and describe what you are doing before you are actually doing it with the video having not specific narration describing what you are doing and the name of the part you are removing?
Take a look , watch the video. I think you could figure out that I'm removing the fuel filter for access to the Alt pulley. I'll try to do better since it is a DIY video aimed at Diy'ers.
