- In this series, I assemble what I believe is the greatest team possible for each franchise. In this specific video, we're looking at the Indiana Pacers.
5 starters, 5 backups, and 3 rotations players. A total of 13 roster spots on each Ultimate Team. It's not just about talent, but it's about building a team that works and gels together.

The game of Basketball has been my passion since I was 5 years old. I grew up as a kid watching my dad's recorded VHS tapes of playoff games through the 70s and 80s, and collected all the Basketball cards. Something about the game and what it represents just hooked me from a very young age.

As a Pacers fan I was interested to see if you’d include ABA players or not. Because they were certainly an ABA dynasty. Not the strongest team here, but they will be fun.
Kind of like a team that won titles in the NFL pre-Super Bowl that also don’t get brought up (hello Chargers, Cardinals, Titans, Bills, and Lions)
Definitely an underrated team.

The starting 5 is fast and efficient. It might be the most explosive offense of all the Ultimates. Lots of space for Mel and Big George. I'm not sure about Freddie Lewis over Mark Jackson. I think I want facilitating over scoring with this team. Nice job giving respect to ABA.

They are often overlooked, but Indiana has always been a a big basketball state
I expected Roger Brown on the starting SF spot, Mark Jackson instead of Haliburton (still early for him), Dale Davis instead of Granger as a rotation player and Clark Kellog and Don Buse among the honorable mentions.
The Raj over Paul George is heart over head. I could see a case for him over Grainger. PG, Reggie, Tyrese would stretch the defense wide open for Big George and Mel.

Netolicky is iconic as well but we're arguing for him. George is consistent, has size and a superior defender. The Pacers were pushing the Heatles with him and all respect to the Stars and Colonels. They weren't Super Teams.

Really want to see a deep dive on George McGinnis. Too much of his peak was in the ABA and some weak Nuggets teams, it seems like only the 3 years he spent with the Sixers gets any attention outside of specific ABA retrospectives. I think the way his career played out leaves him underrated historically.

McGinnis was quite a player. That Sixers team was loaded when they played Portland for the championship.

This team feels like it could compete with today's modern NBA. I worry about their depth, but love the love shown to ABA greats.

Very cool video, Jonny! Reggie is one of my favorite players from the 90s and 2000s. He was such a great sharpshooter and he and Haliburton would be a great backcourt.
PG would be a solid SF too. I didn't know much about McGinnis but it was great to learn about him. That's awesome how he could play both a physical style and w/finesse. A solid all around player. I don't think I heard much about Daniels either but learned more here also and think he and McGinnis would be a great frontcourt. The starting 5 brings a lot of great offense and would be a lot of fun to watch.
Lewis and Oladipo would def. be a solid backcourt and (along with Granger) bring high-octane offense.
I remember O'Neal (from his Blazers and Pacers days) and Smits (esp from the 2000 finals) They are definitely solid big men.
The rotation players are great too. They bring solid shooting (Schrempf and Brown) and defense (Artest).
I want to read up more on the Pacers and ABA. You and Uncle Hays have inspired me to learn more about the NBA during the 70s. :)

It's really interesting that this franchise could build for any era of basketball, better than others. Inside, outside, and in between.
Haliburton has a real shot at being the best all time pacers player in a few years
Idk about a few years. He needs longevity or a tilt which will take more than just a few realistically.
LOL...INFLATED STATS in this ERA dont mean much..10 assists now are like 5 just a few years ago..
He's definitely on pace (no pun intended). Miller is one of my all-time favorite players but at this rate he's passing Reg
@@mprattyh3He’s either gonna have to win a ring, or be a legit Superstar for a long time in order to pass Reggie. Reggie is Mr Pacer. He is what Dame meant to the Blazers, except for a lot longer and with more team success.
Hollywood Halliburton needs to get to an NBA finals first. But right now Reggie is the still the guy for the Pacers.

True, but I feel like a player needs to play at least a certain number of games for the team, in order to qualify.
I don’t know exactly how many games, but probably more than the 135 that English played. That’s not even 2 seasons.

I was expecting Detlef Schrempf and Jermaine O'Neal in the front court but I know I'm still learning about the legends from way before they arrived. I know who George McGinnis is but Mel Daniels is a new one for me that I need to learn about! That's why I'm subscribed to you!

Roy got so much unfair hate from fans in his final year in Indy. It's sort of the first time I saw the Pacers fan base turn on a player for a rough stretch on the floor. The base turned on Metta but that was a different situation that lost Reggie his final shot at a Ring.
@@johncraig4820 He had a net rating of 0 and a negative BPM during his final season in IND; he was actively detrimental to the team.
@@MarkWadey In almost every season and for his career, he had a negative offensive rating. It doesn't matter if you're an excellent ft shooter when you have no offensive skills and, overall, hurt your team.
@@RVered his job wasn’t to score it was to be a rim Protector which his is one of the best ever. Actually revolutionize rim protection so I give him his props. He could hit a mid range and was a 80% FT shooter. Under the rim he was a bucket most seasons

It's a well rounded team but compared to some of the other stacked teams I'm just not sure if they'll be able to really displace some of the other dynasties like the Celtics.
I would not sleep on this team! Very versatile, no glaring holes. Lacking a STAR, though.
I would say a lower playoff team.

Yep, no weaknesses here, but lacking the strengths of a lot of East teams. I see Celtics, 76ers, Bucks, Bulls, Heat, Knicks, and Pistons finishing ahead of/right in the mix with them, but they should be able to grab a playoff spot.
McGinnis led the Pacers to an ABA Finals appearance in 1975. He helped them win the ABA Championship in 1972 and '73.

Wonder what the list would look like without ABA players. Thought of players like Mark Jackson, Dale Davis, the defensive specialist Derrick Mckey and Tinsley.

Bro I loved the idea of this series and I know their at the bottom of the alphabet and idk if your actually gonna do the Seattle Supersonics but if you are I am waiting patiently.
I don't see this team as one of the strongest of the ultimate team series and with so much competition I don't see this as a playoff team but the addition of Haliburton makes this team better than it would have been a few years ago. They would win some close games because "Gets into to Miller for the win. It's there!"

George McGinnis definitely needs a deep dive, he was like a LeBron before LeBron.
If Reggies Pacers could push the Bulls to seven and PG13's squad could push the LeBron led Heat to seven, this team could shake things up!
And the Pistons team is going to be suffocating defensively!

I was hoping Roger Brown would at least make the second team, but a quick look at his stats reveal that he didn't score as prolifically as I remembered. However, he was a tremendous player who was initially -- and unfairly -- banned from the NBA just like Connie Hawkins.
I wish Indiana had a better nba history
Don Buse should be an honorable mention. Elite defensive guard and passer. He was an ABA champ and six time all defensive player between the two leagues.

Jonny again you did. I d change a few things though. I d have Roy Hibert start. For his size and defense. He can rebound well too. I don t know where to put Jalen Rose but he must be on the team. I d probably replace him for Arrtest. I feel Mark Jackson should be on the team as well. I liked this team. Just a lil tweek. Oh and Chris Mullin. I m about to watch some more of these

He goes in alphabetical order of the team mascot. Or in the order that teams on 2K are listed, if you’re familiar. So the Pelicans will be the next team, and the Pistons will be after that.

If it were me constructing teams for a 2K sim, I would put the rookie versions of each player on the team they played their rookie year for, so there would be no repeated players on multiple teams. Then, I’d figure out how long each player was with each team and force them onto the next team they played for in the appropriate year. The g league would be filled with players who don’t make the team as rookies but might crack the lineup in future years. You could attempt to run a 20 year sim, young players who are on current rosters could be forced to stay on that team for the full sim. I’d make it so no rookies are added to the teams for the full duration of the sim. When too many players retire and the game crashes, it’s over. It’s basically all of nba history condensed, where everyone is a rookie at the same time, where peaks and regressions happen with age.

Mark Jackson was better in New York, and although he was still decent in Indiana, he was quite the same. Mullin was a shell of what he once was in Golden State. He’s much more likely to make that team

PG would BE ridiculous on that Squad! What he did in okc with russ, he is going to be even better with tyrese because tyrese is a better passer,, he gonna avg 25-30ppg on 50/40/90 pretty much... And in today's game, u gonna have lineups that are gonna go crazy! Tyrese PG artest granger and oneal, an inside presence on both ends, two top perimeter defenders, 3 guys that can really shoot... They not gonna win against the big sharks in a 7 game series, but they gonna make ir fun to watch

@@TheIcemanthomasYeah but for this series it’s arguably the worst we’ve seen. Nobody here is cracking top 50 all time. Even franchises that have been poverty for years have that, IT for the Pistons, Shaq/ Dwight for the Magic, KG for the TWolves, Ewing for the Knicks, KD for the Nets etc. Pacers have the second worst all time team just behind Hornets.
1. Those guys should not be playing together at all. And 2. Daniels is a center, O’Neal is a PF.
Putting Granger ahead of Jalen Rose is criminal. Rose didn't even make the rotation players? Rose was an all around player and Granger was a guy that had 3 good seasons on bad teams and someone always puts up good numbers in those situations because the points have to come from somewhere.

The 1998 Pacers teams is one of my favorite teams ever. Took Jordan and the bulls to the limit and coached by the great Larry Bird

You should be including ABA players for this team regardless of rules, because they actually won shit there and don't have much history whatsoever otherwise. I bet people to reply with a name you remember in the Pacers' history. I'm sure most will say Reggie Miller and Paul George, but what else? Some fans won't recognize the names Jermaine O'Neal, Ron Artest, Danny Granger and Chuck Person. Probably would have helped if they didn't draft (ok, Toronto drafted him, but Indiana traded for him) infamous bust Jonathan Bender in their golden NBA era over names like Wally Szczerbiak, Richard Hamilton, Andre Miller, Shawn Marion, Jason Terry, and 2nd rounder Manu Ginobili or Rick Robey over hometown hero LARRY BIRD. You did not misread that. Was that too harsh of a way of saying this team ain't making the playoffs in this sim? Least you got the Colts, Indy.
Regardless, I love the roster and the love to names like George McGinnis, the greatest player in franchise history in Mel Daniels, Freddie Lewis and...Roger Brown? I heard that name before, but like...wow. And yes, I did forget Schrempf played for this team, thanks for asking. Might be a better two-way option than 2006 Peja Stojakovic (look up his basketball reference).

Tyrese has beyond a shadow of a doubt shown that he’s better than Mark ever was. Imo. It does suck that Mark isn’t in the roster. But I get it, because Freddie Lewis won titles and the team didn’t really need an extra PG.
