    Thanks for the excellent how to video. I've chased my 1950 G with mag all over the shop! I did have the Duane Larson instructions but your video really filled in the blanks. Now have the G running better than it has ever run!! Appreciate your carb video your how to retime, and the tips on zeketheantique freak! By the way, grew up on a dairy farm in Martinsville!

    I to have set mine off of Duane Larsons instructions. Tractor sounds very good and should pull very good. I did this to 47 model A in between two different antique tractor pulls and the difference was about 60 feet.

    Like your ideas thanks for the help. I have solid rims on my tractor so I can not do it the way you did. So my thoughts are to line LH impluse marks on the flywheel with mark on the cover and make a mark where is more accessible for me and measure the wheel from there.

    • @justtinkering6054
      @justtinkering6054  Před 3 lety

      As long as you make your marks on the case and flywheel while the factory marks are in line, I don't see why you couldn't use a more accessible spot.

    Your making that difficult. Line your dot up with your timing mark. On number one TDC compression stroke. You take mag off of tractor put plug wire in #1 hole ground it spin mag till it fires that plug put mag back on tractor bam its timed just like that.

  • @bretrogers7859
    @bretrogers7859 Před 4 lety +1

    Great video, how did you decide on what timing to set your timing at? I have mine set at 25 and the impulse is right on the mark but it doesn’t shop as smooth as yours. Any comments are appreciated.

    • @justtinkering6054
      @justtinkering6054  Před 4 lety

      Bret Rogers I decided on 25 degrees because the gas-only tractors had a 25 degree cup in their mags. Back when tractors were using distillate they needed more advance due to the slower ignition of distillate versus gasoline. Since I only run gasoline, I figured I’d set it at 25 just like the gas only tractors were set. One tip though, make sure your carb is clean, sealed, and set right or timing might not help as much. I’ve been told that the seal on the throttle shaft of the carb is a problem for alot of tractors that run poorly.

    So I am a bit puzzled if the tractor has never been apart how did the governor get out of time. Seems like the problem would be somewhere else to me. Maybe I am wrong but I don't think they really get enough wear on the gears to jump time

    • @justtinkering6054
      @justtinkering6054  Před 10 dny

      @@alme4166 I don’t think it jumped time. I think the timing was set for all fuel. I never run Tractor distillate in it. It only gets gasoline so moving the timing more toward the gasoline end of the spectrum helped.

    • @alme4166
      @alme4166 Před 10 dny

      Honestly when I was young I raked a lot of hay on a 36 br and it was a all fuel model as was the 41 ao and the 46 a and I don't think we ever changed the gear timing. Ran that a for many years but it had been rebuilt and bored out with some sorta power block

  • @mybusinessonly1557
    @mybusinessonly1557 Před 4 lety +1

    Should have moved governor back an additional tooth and then adjusted impulse time to 2nd mark from left. Someone messed up your governor time and then tried to compensate with rotating the mag but couldn't adjust far enough. Easy mistake to make. Glad you figured it out.

  • @terryraymond7984
    @terryraymond7984 Před rokem

    sounds more like a carb adjustment is adjusted too lean, the Governor is really hunting.

  • @soothingsoundsfromaroundth1400

    Hey I have a question I had to reset my timing in my governor like you do in this video. Once I got the ignition timing, correct my tractor ran for about a minute went dead and then when I went to turn the tractor over again, I turned it about two rotations, and it completely locked down. I read in the original owners manual, that if you do not put the governor back correctly, this will cause it to lockdown, but I do not know if that was the cause that happened to mine and I do not know how to fix it. Any thoughts?

    • @justtinkering6054
      @justtinkering6054  Před rokem

      I’d guess something bound up in the governor, if you just had it opened up.
