Dallas Jenkins said that 95 percent of the content in the Chosen show is not in the Bible? Why not just admit that this is true because Dallas Jenkins has said it? I think that is an accurate assessment of the show.
It is only 5 percent Biblical and that is according to Dallas Jenkins. I’m not sure why this is even a debate when the creator of the show is actually making a true statement about the show being 5 percent Biblical. No other statement or video can be made defending the show when Dallas has already spoken about the show not being Biblical.
What about the Sermon on the Mount? How can Jesus be asking for help with His Sermon? How can Jesus rehearse? Jesus cannot make mistakes. Why does Dallas think that is ok?

Messianic Prophecies: God claimed he fortells the future, especially about who the Messiah will be in the Hebrew Scriptures. “Declare to us the things to come, tell us what the future holds, so that we may know that you are gods.” (Isa. 41:23) “Who foretold this long ago, who declared it from the distant past? Was it not I, the Lord?” (Isa. 45:21)
Peter - Acts 3:18,22 those things which God foretold by the mouth of all His prophets, that the Christ would suffer, He has thus fulfilled. For Moses truly said to the fathers, ‘The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren (Deu 18:15)'. Jesus - John 5:46 For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me, for he wrote about Me. Luke 24:44,46 Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me. This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day
Birth/Life - As Moses had to escape infanticide, and was made to return to his land, and as Moses turned water to blood as his first sign and commanded the sea and fed many in the wilderness, so was Jesus, and as Moses established the memorial of the slain lamb to remember their deliverance, so was Jesus.
Messiah would be a prophet (Deu18:15), a priest (Zec6:13); called King (Ps2:6), declared the Son of God (Ps2:7); Messiah would be God (Isa9:6) born in Bethlehem (Micah5:2); born of a virgin (Isa7:14); come from the line of Abraham (Gen22:18), Issac (Gen17:19), Jacob (Num24:17), from the tribe of Judah (Gen49:10), heir to the throne of King David (Isa9:7); come before the destruction of the second temple at AD 70 (Mal3:1). Ministry begins in Galilee (Isa9:1); Will heal the blind, deaf, lame and raise the dead (Isa35:5); Will teach the people using parables (Ps78:2); enter Jerusalem on a donkey (Zec9:9); usher in a new covenant (Jer31:31)
Crucifixion - As Joseph was betrayed and sold by his own and later was exalted, so was Jesus. As Moses lifted up the bronze serpent so that those who look to it are saved, so was Jesus. As Psalm 22 & Isaiah 53 describe crucifixion and as the Passover lamb which was to be eaten and its blood on the door saved them and as the sacrificial lamb symbolized the atoning for sins, so was Jesus. As the high Priest in the tabernacle sprinkles the blood of the sacrifice on the golden mercy seat in the holy of holies, so was Jesus.
betrayed for 30 pieces of silver (Zec11:13); be rejected by His own people; pierced & atone for our sins (Isa53:3-10) and bring an end to sin (Dan9:24)
Resurrection - As Jonah spent three days and three nights in the belly of a great fish, so was Jesus' resurrection from the dead on the third day. As Issac was to be sacrificed on the third day and was delivered from death, so was Jesus.
rise from the dead (Ps16:10); become a Light to the Gentiles and all nations (Isa60:3); worshipped by all nations (Dan9:14)

I’ve watched every episode of every season so many times now not only can I recite most of the lines as the actors speak them, but also I can accurately jump to certain kinds of scenes I want to rewatch. If I want to rewatch forgiveness scenes, calling scenes, conversion scenes, healing scenes, whatever. I don’t need to find compilations on CZcams. When Season 4 came out, I watched each set of episodes twice, on consecutive Fridays and Saturdays. I would have gone three times had my schedule permitted. I will watch them all again on the app on my TV first time straight through, Second time with closed captions and any which way I choose thereafter. Now that I know the final three Seasons will be released one per year, I can relax, rewatch, and reread to my hearts content. It wasn’t until the credits rolled on episode eight on Saturday for, as cast members and others involved have stated, this is family, returning to the set is like coming home. When the credits roll for the last time, even though everything can be rewatched, the sense of ‘home’, as first ‘home’ will have changed. Funny, isn’t it? I’ve read the bible cover to cover and the Gospels many times. Over the three year cycle of the Liturgy at church, I’ve heard most of it again in the 25+ years I have returned to the faith. It’s not like I don’t know the story, even though there is more to be understood, seen, and felt with every revisit, there is an undeniable, incomparability, a specialness to a first time.

@@Atemoneoftheothers, how is the Jesus in “The Chosen” that different from the actual Jesus? I submit that the show challenges the preconceptions that people have of Jesus, particularly in regards to the incarnation and the hypostatic union. People are upset that he doesn’t fit the exact picture of Jesus that they have in their minds. There are aspects of the Christ, particularly in regards to his humanity and the limitations that he had while in the flesh, that people don’t understand. I recognize that it challenges our pride and ego to realize there may be things we haven’t thought through or didn’t know. We have to be humble enough to admit that there may be things that we have misunderstood or that are more assumptions than actually based on scripture.

The words were so beautiful I went to my Bible to see if it was there or was it the writers'. Straight from Psalms 2:12. I felt that Jesus was introducing mercy and grace to Nicodemus who was addressing him from a law follower perspective as he knelt. I truly enjoy the Chosen. The actor who plays Zebedee is very clear in his testimony that he came to saving faith in Jesus as a result of being on the show. I deeply feel the goodness and the bringing of many to a deeper relationship with the Savior. It sparks so many important feelings. I know this has brought many to search the scriptures. There will always be detractors who pick things apart.
But for me, I love the that the cast is so amazing together in showing the struggles and human emotions we all have. It is thought provoking and spiritually uplifting and we can’t say that about a lot of entertainment in these times. But this is more than entertainment. And I just wanted you to know how grateful I am to see how many people it has touched for good.
It’s bringing people back to the scriptures and showing a tenderness of how deeply Jesus loved his disciples and those he encountered. I know how deeply He loves us and wants to bless us.

@knw397 I heard him make that comment . I forget the context, but no matter anyone who has watched the TV show knows that it is a TV show and Dallas constantly reminds viewers of this and that "it is not the bible". However Dallas also says that he is portraying an "authentic" Jesus. Viewers should expect the 5% (a rough estimate I am sure) that does portray scripture as biblical. I think it does a good job of that. Have you ever read the message version or the New living translation of the bible, which is actually a paraphrase? They are not word for word from the original languages but try to give an accurate understanding of scripture. As a new Believer I only read the NLT as it was like "milk" for me until I was ready for more meat. This is sort of the way I see the show.
As for Jesus rehearsing the Sermon in the Mount, we all bring in our own preconceived notions of how things occur in scripture. Dallas actually said in this video that scholars have wrestled with the Hypostatic Union for many years, and the answer to that probably won't be found in a You-tube comment. One of the things I love about the Chosen is that it forces us to think a d read our bibles.

    • @knw397
      @knw397 Před 2 měsíci +2

@@garypowell6190 Thank you for your comment. Starting off with the comment about it doesn’t matter when anyone who watched the show knows that it is a T.V. show and Dallas has said “it is not in the Bible.” Yes, Dallas has said he is trying to portray the “authentic Jesus” which the show does not portray.
If Jesus could possibly “mess up” on His Sermon’s then His divinity would come into question as well as His Humanity.
And that brings us into the definition of Hypostatic Union. Also Dyophysitism, and Miaphysitism?
Hypostatic Union, Dyophysitism, and Miaphysitism are views of the person of Jesus regarding the divine and human natures. Let’s start with the correct view.
The hypostatic union is the correct doctrine of Christ. It is the teaching that in the one person of Jesus are two distinct natures: the divine nature and the human nature. These two natures are distinct but are united in the one person of Christ. The two natures do not become combined. They are not mixed together. They are distinct. Yet, the attributes of both natures are ascribed to the single person (communication of the properties). The hypostatic union emphasizes the one person of Christ with two natures. This is within orthodoxy.
Dyophysitism is essentially the same thing as the hypostatic union. However, where the hypostatic union emphasizes the one person with two natures, dyophysitism emphasizes the two natures as one person. This view is within orthodoxy.
Miaphysitism, also known as monophysitism, states that the two natures of Christ were combined into a new, third nature, a divine-human nature. The two natures lost their distinction and are now combined. Another way of looking at it is to say the two natures fused into a new third nature, the new divine-human nature. The problem with this position is that the new divine-human nature is neither divine nor human. It is a new third thing. This means that the continuity of the second person of the Trinity, the Word, is broken. But, this is problematic because the properties and identity of something are related to the nature of that something. If the divine nature ceases to be a purely divine nature, then the attributes of the divine nature cease - along with the identity of the person. This violates the immutability of the Trinity as three eternal and distinct persons. So, the idea that the divine and human natures combined into a new third nature violates the doctrine of the true incarnation and invalidates the atoning sacrifice.
Outline Summary of The Hypostatic Union, Dyophysitism, Miaphysitism
      1. The Hypostatic Union
      1. Jesus is one person with two distinct natures: the divine and the human.
      2. Emphasis on the one person of Jesus with two distinct natures, divine and human.
      3. The two natures of Jesus are inseparably joined in the one person of Jesus but remain distinct. They are not mixed or combined into a new third thing.
      4. “hypostatic union In theology, the union of the two natures, divine and human, in the one person Jesus Christ. It was defined at the Council of Chalcedon (451) to affirm the personal unity as well as the two natures. This reality is a divine mystery.” (McKim, Donald K.. The Westminster Dictionary of Theological Terms, Second Edition: Revised and Expanded (p. 156). Presbyterian Publishing Corporation. Kindle Edition.)
      2. Dyophysitism
      1. Jesus has two natures in one person.
      2. Jesus has two natures, divine and human, that co-exist in the one person of Jesus. The two natures remain distinct from each other, but are united in a single person (hypostasis). The two natures are in union in the one person without mixture, confusion, or change of the two natures.
      3. Emphasizes the distinction of the two natures in the one person. They coexist in the person of Christ.
      4. “Dyophysitism (Gr. dyo, “two,” and physis, “nature”) The view that Jesus Christ has two natures, a divine and a human nature, inextricably united. This position was accepted by the Council of Chalcedon (451) and the Council of Constantinople (553). It contrasts with Monophysitism.” (McKim, Donald K.. The Westminster Dictionary of Theological Terms, Second Edition: Revised and Expanded (p. 95). Presbyterian Publishing Corporation. Kindle Edition.)
      3. Miaphysitism
      1. Miaphysitism is also known as monophysitism. It is the teaching that Jesus has one nature, not two. The one nature is a composite of both the divine and human natures. There is no separation or distinction between the two natures. Therefore, it is a new third kind of thing, the new human-divine nature.
      2. “Monophysitism (Gr. monos, “one,” and physis, “nature”) A christological view, regarded by the early church as heretical, which taught that Jesus Christ had only one nature rather than a divine and a human nature that were united in one person.” (McKim, Donald K.. The Westminster Dictionary of Theological Terms, Second Edition: Revised and Expanded (p. 202). Presbyterian Publishing Corporation. Kindle Edition.)
      CARM material.
As was stated before, if Jesus could possibly “mess up” on His Sermon’s then His divinity would come into question as well as His Humanity because Jesus being 100 percent God and 100 percent Man was not able to “mess up” a Sermon. And anyone saying otherwise is against Jesus. There was no possibility of Jesus sinning when He was tempted. Even though He was tempted like we are tempted.
      Our Compassionate High Priest
14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
      Hebrews 4:14-15
I’ll continue this on another comment as this one comment is long.

John the Baptist wasn’t supposed to be healed. Jesus was not supposed to heal him. His death made way for the coming of Jesus and his earthly ministry. John the Baptist’s death was the fulfillment of prophecy. It had to happen. For Dallas to use this as justification for allowing a fictional character to be graphically killed shows that he is biblically illiterate and doesn’t understand the difference between prophecy and senseless killing. John the Baptist was a prophet, who proclaimed the gospel and the coming of the Messiah. He wasn’t supposed to live after Jesus came.

What Dallas Jenkins is doing is hands down the greatest theater I've ever experienced and I am overjoyed to be alive to see it unfolding. I pray for and support The Chosen daily and enthusiastically and it really bothers me to read the many negative statements made about Dallas and this show by people who sincerely follow Christ. It's a good thing I'm not the one making this show; I doubt I oould handle the criticism! Dallas has an amazing amount of strength and maturity. He is so open about how God has prepared him through failure to develop the thick skin he needed to do what he's doing. He is so refreshingly open about how everything is done, so clear on the details about his affiliations, his stance and beliefs, and the nature of this business, and yet the naysayers drone on. I KNOW God is blessing this project, that there is nothing even remotely heretical about either it or Dallas himself.

@@knw397 1) The stories we read in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are often one sentence or at most a paragraph long. The writers of The Chosen will take a gospel story and draw it out to a whole episode or even several episodes so that we can look at that story in brilliant technicolor from all angles and really get the meaning from it that some of us visual learners need. So when Dallas says that 95 percent is "extrabiblical" what he is saying is that a bible story is expounded upon greatly in order to truly bring it forward. For instance, we get to meet Veronica, a woman who had the issue of blood for 12 years, and see what it must have been like to be in her situation. What takes a few seconds to read in the Gospel we get to see unfold over an entire episode. THAT is what is meant by "only 5 percent". 2) Jesus engages Matthew in the putting together of the sermon in order to help him (and therefore us) really see what Jesus was saying in that sermon from Matthew 5. There was absolutely nothing sinful about the portrayal of how Jesus was "working out how he would say what he wanted to say". He wasn't wrestling with "what" to say. In that scene he was simply allowing Matthew to come alongside him and see the process, to have some input more so that Matthew could engage. 3) there was absolutely nothing sinful about Jesus saying things like "I hope I don't mess up" in a kidding sort of way over little fun things. You're taking those lines out of context if you think The Chosen was portraying Jesus as being fearful of sinning when he was only joking about a possible very human "stumble" which in no way is sinful! I'm sure even our Lord and Savior stubbed his toe, got splinters, dropped a ball, etc. Since when is that sin?????? If you cannot imaging our Fully Divine Son of God Almighty also being fully MAN that's on you. But the rest of us are finding it totally refreshing to see this very very plausible and well-overdue side of our Saviour portrayed as we have imagined ever since we came to know him in the Gospel. This is the Jesus I always knew him to be. Fully God, and fully man. Isaiah says that the suffering Servant would have nothing impressive about his looks that people should recognize him as anything other than a regular person. It is what he DID and SAID that made the difference for people (or at least for people who were paying attention!). The Gospels very clearly show that he was disbelieved, dismissed, and hated by as many people as believed, even more actually. The Chosen does a great job of showing the tensions that were clearly there. It doesn't sugar-coat anything. It boggles my mind, frankly, that someone who is not a fan of The Chosen would bother to engage in these posts.

@@kmsongbird It boggles my mind that you think that this false Jesus in the Chosen has to rehearse what he is about to say. No where in the Bible does it even come close to Jesus rehearsing what He was going to say.
That is the problem that you have, you thinking that Jesus had to rehearse His Word. This is demonic and is blasphemy. What Jesus spoke was God speaking in His perfect Human Body. He suffered in His Human Body but that doesn’t mean He rehearsed His Word. That is what the devil says that Jesus had to rehearse His Words. In His Humanity He is still perfect and cannot rehearse His Word. He is 100 percent God and 100 percent Human. And in His Humanity He still couldn’t rehearse His Words being 100 percent God. You are blaspheming His Name along with everyone else who thinks that way. The end times are here and I see more and more Christians being deceived little by little. And the Jesus of the Chosen is portraying Jesus as one that can stumble… this is NOT in The Bible…. The Bible never says such a thing. The minds of people that have made up an Idol in their own minds accept Jesus can stumble…. the mind of the perverse who take the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ in vain.
And the “very plausible and well-overdue side of our Savior portrayed as we have imagined” is a perfect example of you making God in your own image because you imagine Him like this but the reality is Jesus is NOT the portrayal the Chosen makes Him out to be.

@ Obviously he's not saying that Jonathan is portraying the real Jesus. He has said that he is not making something to supplement scripture. It is meant to be a historical drama that depicts what they think, based on scholarly research, what actual life was like for the first century church. And the Jesus on the show is supposed to be true to the values and personality of the real Jesus. I've made the comparison before that the show reminds me of the instant connection I feel when I meet someone that reminds me of my best friend. That person isn't my best friend, but there's a warmth and instant connection there because of the reminder. That is what this show is supposed to do, drive people to real Source found in scripture and by relationship through the Holy Spirit. And I know it is doing that exact thing for millions of people.

Whew...! So many different views, opinions, etc...Not that I was asked but here goes.
    1. I believe Brother Allen is a solid guy in what he believes regarding the scriptures. I also believe he teaches the word of God to the best of his ability and understanding. That said...
    2. I have watched at least one video that I can recall where Brother Allen had spoken on something and revisited the topic after gaining wisdom that exposed an area where he may have delivered something wrong or may have caused someone to be misconstrued (My words not his, just summarizing my thoughts on the video I saw) In that spirit...
    3. I thoroughly believe Brother Allen loves Christ and loves God's people enough that if God convicts his heart about supporting this series, Brother Allen is solid enough to come back, admit that he was wrong, and face the music because again, God's people, and staying true to the gospel is of the utmost importance to him.
Personally speaking, I tried watching the Chosen but couldn't get jiggy with it. No particular reason to debate, it just wasn't my thing. As of now, I haven’t been give a reason to garner calling Brother Allen a false teacher or heretic. If this series is as misleading and distorting the gospel as the critics say, if I know God like I believe I know Him, He will handle according to His will. Man will be the least of the worries.
My prayer is, in the midst of all this, someone is exposed to soul saving Jesus, welcomes His finished work on the cross, and takes their place as a believer.
Lastly, lets stay the course! Way things looking lately, He may crack the sky any day now. Love someone enough today to share the Good News! He's risen and coming back just like He said!

It is my strongly held opinion that in today’s increasingly insane world, me, as a devout member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has way more in common with any strong believer of any other faith than the growing chorus of voices in the darkening world that have no faith at all. I think the Chosen is wonderful because it can be enjoyed by people of all different faiths, as long as they believe in Christ, and it can bring us together, if we will only choose to focus on what we have in common instead of what separates us.

My key takeaway from this interview is that The Chosen is a fictional, dramatic work that is loosely based on a true story (ie. The Bible). In the director’s own words, it contains a lot of things that are ‘extra-biblical’ and ‘not factual’ as it tries to imagine what life was life for some of the characters in the Bible. So, as long as people understand this disclaimer going into it, on the positive side I can see where this might encourage some people to want to read the actual true story, the Bible.
In the negative side, I am concerned when I see comments from people that say they’ve been Christians their whole lives and how The Chosen has ignited their fire to draw closer to God more. I would humbly ask those people to take a step back and have some introspection to ask themselves ‘why hasn’t God’s true word stirred that hunger in me all these years, and why did it take a fictional TV show to do that?’ Perhaps it’s the emotions of the extra-Biblical stories that the person is feeling rather than the Holy Spirit moving in them. Just a thought.

12:50 Being a former Greco Roman Christian, I returned to my Hebrew roots of the faith, some 30 years ago. In the first episode of season one I was immediately “impacted “ with the factual image of Yeshua and his disciples wearing zti-ztis as commanded by our Heavenly Father for those who are in covenant with Him♥️.

When someone says they don’t care what people think I find it concerning, even if they say because the care more about what God thinks, because it’s easy to miss hear God. Not caring doesn’t sit well with Love your neighbour as your self. 😅

When there are millions watching/listening, you have to just be true to what you believe God is wanting you to do. And forge ahead. You have to have a thick skin and let many opinions bounce or you couldn’t function. He has gone way beyond in including other educated people in writing and depicting his vision correctly and honestly. And… nobody is forced to watch! It’s free for those who do.
Do you have even 1 person in your life that you agree with 100%? Imagine trying to get millions to agree!

Dallas cares about the people close to him who are the Biblical Consultants, his wife, pastor and other Christians around him, who involved in the show. If we care about the opinions of everyone - no one would ever do anything.
Jesus didn’t let the criticism of others stop him from doing The Father’s will.
At some point we need to tune out the noise and do what we believe God wants us to do. Which is what Dallas is saying.

Thank you so much for this interview. I like the Chosen. I actually was afraid to watch it for years because of some of the criticism, but 2 years ago I started to watch it and I think it is a good show. I can relate to watching it and then going back and checking scripture to see if there was something I forgot about or missed. I know there will be a lot of criticism for this interview, but I’m so grateful for this dialogue and there needs to be more room in the body of Christ for disagreement without it affecting how we see our Brothers and Sisters in Christ. I’m not advocating going against scripture, but there are so many opinions that are outside of scripture that Christian’s disagree about and people can use it as a way to separate the Body of Christ and to me that is so tragic.

Most of us have watched a film that is presented, "Based on actual events."
We know from this statement that there are fictional aspects of the story, usually minor details, but the essence of the story is true.
Jenkins statement a couple years ago says it well: The Chosen is a painting, not a photograph.
The controversy among Christians is the clear difference between Christians with a micro perspective versus a macro perspective.
Those troubled by the perspective of The Chosen, should not watch.

I know! deception is RIFE in christianity.... there's *way too many* sappy, naive and *undiscerning* christians. We're fast moving into *Matthew 24:24* territory...... *Satan's* having a field day.
It wouldn't surprise me if Allen began yoking with Roman Catholicism because - basically - he's a *businessman* lookin' to improve his *bottom line* by pandering to "the Chosen" fans..... but - *Jesus said* - we can't serve both GOD and Mammon. Simply put: christians who love *"the Chosen"* don't read their Bible's PROPERLY.
The show clearly presents ANOTHER Jesus (2 Corinthians 11:4) NOT the Jesus of the Bible. Allen's utterly BLIND if he don't see that..... It's no wonder Mormons are involved in the production; they present ANOTHER gospel (Galatians 1:6-9)

Shout out to Allen for bringing Dallas on and engaging in this insightful conversation! I wish people would actually listen to the whole thing but people are really quick to put Dallas or Allen or whoever’s not in their own views in an US vs THEM category and it’s not helpful at all. I think if we got out of our bubbles and looked at the bigger picture of how God is using this as one of the ways He is bringing people to him himself especially Gen Z. Then I think we’d all be better for it lol

The show is a heart thinking watch. My belief is that criticism comes from a person who thinks they can read that persons mind or interpret what they do. In stead of questioning that persons thoughts and opinions and actions. In stead of having a conversation with them to find out how they really feel, think and live their lives. Get to know and learn to love not cause chaos.
