I got married and became a father.
I tried to sneak it in at times when she would go to sleep. It was always with the intent that I'd just play game or two [of Starcraft], but it always ended up being more. It wasn't easy to stop, but the truth is no one wants to co-parent with someone too tired to interact.
+No One I know what you mean man. i have not stopped completely, but gaming is no longer a thing after getting married. just too many other priorities. still do oh occasion but nothing like i used to.
I'm not married but I imagine that you would prefer entertainment that you can enjoy together with your wife and you can do gaming if your wife likes to but otherwise not so much.
+youluvana she will get into games at times but she is in no way a gamer. she 100% skyrim and the witcher 3 and dragon age Inquisition (playing on easy most of the time) and that's about it. since then though, no gaming. she doesn't mind if I play from time to time, but my priorities are my family, used to kind of be gaming.
Well, even family guys entertain themselves but I guess there is a difference between watching a movie and gaming in general. Gaming can be exhausting. if it was just about the time it takes, there wouldn't be a difference. But I bet there are some games that are fun but don't take that much effort to learn/keep up with. Games are interactive and i think it's a healthy change to do from time to time, if your relaxation time is filled with non interactive things too often. But you can interact with your family :) I wouldn't know.

People just want to give themselves an out by saying "I knew you had that, I told everyone I knew it" when they lose, and happily raking in chips when they're wrong and wind up winning

I miss Day9 stories. They were the main reason to watch the channel outside of the SC2 content way back. His stand up is still something I watch to this day. Just a solid all around story telling machine.
I'm coming back to this story from 4 years ago. I have no idea what Sean is talking about but his storytelling is just SO enthralling.

There seems to be a real connection between poker and people who play starcraft. Quite a few starcraft pros have turned to poker, and everyone I know who's even half decent at the game is wsy above average at poker, even if they don't really play it that often. My guess is that most people only play hand to hand, while people who's used yo strategy games know how to think long term; what strategy they need to stick to to win, and how every hand plays into that strategy. Which means not doing shit like min raising which has zero strategic value.
It is, also, a numbers game of course. Even more so online where opponents can switch quickly and you might even be playing several tables at once. What's valuable here more than anything is the ability to stick to your plan and grind..grind a lot. Losing a game means nothing, it's all about the win %. And starcraft players knows how to play the same field for hours on end every day if nothing else ;)
Pretty sure he's a math major so he's got a decent amount of knowledge in probability and stuff >.>

I thought of louis cks series Louie when I saw this clip. This could easily have become a short clip of sean playing poker against other people and then does a standup saying the things he said in this clip (the people that has watched Louie would understand)

If you say nothing when you make a horrible call, people think you were outplayed or bluffed. This way they give themselves an out when you did have it.
Also sometimes the pot is so large, and the bet you have to make is so small in comparison, that it's just worth the risk in case they were bluffing. But there's no reason to tell people that you knew in this instance.

Generally people use the "I know so and so is going to happen" because its their way of justifying to themselves that they were right. Some otherworldy reason made them go against themselves and it couldn't possibly be their fault! .. thats my take on it at least.

Graham Hunt its hard to explain to somone that doesnt know the rules the funny part of mistakes people make, im by no mean a player either nor expert on rules, but basicly in this version of poker there are few stages of the game you start with two cards and then from random cards on table you try to get a certain sets. Then on each of those stages there is betting money, even before the cards show up on table at all. So when the cards appear (first three cards the betting then one card, then betting then last card and final betting before showing cards and result of the round who won.
Now in all those bets depending which in order you are (order switches every round so game is fair) smart player can figure out how to bet, when to rise when to fold, pass ect based on how other people act. Somtimes experienced player can see somone is bluffing or trying to lure out more money couse he has a strong set. Of course there is always that part of randomness that you cant simply predict, somtimes somone hits 2% chanced card agains enemy 98% certain victory and you cant do crap about it , but it doesnt mean going into such high win chance is a mistake couse there is tiny chance of loss.
But as Sean described most casual players have zero idea how to play, and eve knowing enemy has a strong cards couse keeps rising bet they call those rises anyway and lose :D
also those kinds of people are usually most talkative. But talking actually can be a valid strategy to undermine enemy and make him angry/impatient so he starts making mistakes

Basically He played a shitty hand that became a great hand and then on the reveal he proudly said he had the shitty hand which most people wouldn't of played in the first place and laughed uncontrollably at his opponent lmao.
Basically what this guy is saying. Sean was playing Texas Hold Em Poker where the dealer deals each player 2 cards and the players bet according to their hand. This is the pre-Flop. Then the dealer deals out 3 cards to the table and this is called the Flop. Usually from this point on you can start narrowing down what cards the opponents might have and which set they have or are trying to get based on the bets they have made. Then the dealer deals out 1 card that called the Turn and then the last 5th card which is called the River.
Now Sean was telling how bad poker players dont understand that the bets you make represent the strenght of your hand. If you bet big preflop you most likely have a pair or something good like ace, king.
If you check preflop and bet on the flop it means you've only now gotten something good like a pair.
Bad players often play one bet a time so they show a weak hand by checking preflop and then they raise by a minimum amount on the flop either showing that they have a bad hand. If they actually do have a good hand they dont get the maximum money they could out of their oponents if they had bet more on the flop.
I understood none of this because I don’t get poker. But this was hilarious!

Sean! Pro tip: don't show your hand unless you have to as it gives away information on how you play. When people muck upon you showing the winning hand when called they're likely just aware of this and not so much embarrassed of their holdings.
There's not really any use slow rolling if you know you have the best hand like in this story though.
I am not sure where you got the idea that I condone slow rolling. I was commenting on Sean's mention @ 3:35-3:50 of him always showing his hand first. In his story he was called, thus having to show his hand first (as per the rules of the game). You should never show your hand unless you have to (i.e. you're the one calling a river); all this accomplishes is providing your opponents more information which will in later hands be used to play closer to optimal vs your strategy.
