I think Day9 Daily #100 is his best content by far.
I remember when Day9 tried to drive chat nuts by repeatedly ordering units with overlapping / restarted audio around in Age of Empires... C&C Generals LAUGHS at his pitiful attempt to cause psychological damage.

i remember staying up at night with my headphones on watching episodes of the daily once i found it so i that i could learn to be a better gamer. tuning in to the daily and having a great time while learning about starcraft.

Hello fellow traveler.
I miss those times so much. The SC2 scene was just about to pop off hard. Sean put out the best sc2 instructive material, maybe just the best instructive series on CZcams. He was so young and scruffy headed, full of infectious passion for the game. He felt like I felt about it. And he would not just discuss the mechanics of it, but he would even go into higher order play philosophy. And then he would have thoae dailies where he didn't even play and just talked about life and emotions and how to deal with different struggles. And it helped me so much when I was younger. Day9 Daily #100 to this day fucks me up.
That whole crew was great back then. DJWheat, Artosis, iNControl (may he rest in power).
What a special time in the scene. Anyway, good to see someone from those days.

As someone who's played Zero Hour since childhood, it's pretty interesting seeing someone with zero prior experience playing the game and finding out all the little quirks that wouldn't be here in most modern releases.

C&C Generals was truly like what I feel like when I played MTG. You are a general, you have awesome powers, so do they, and the units are really just something more minor. In SC units take center stage, but I think in C&C generals, it is what you pick for perks that make the difference.

Also little tip in case anyone hasn't told you yet - when you're attacking it's actually much more efficient to use the Guard function with your units. The units will automatically attack anything in the radius, including buildings, and will target whatever is closest to the center of the Guard icon first. This way you don't have to keep manually targeting every building and you can do more at once.
Sean, you NEED to look at Total Annihilation on GOG. It's possibly one of the most incredible early RTS games ever made. It was my childhood growing up, and it still has a thriving community to this day, including mods and multiplayer support. If you've heard of Supreme Commander, that is the spiritual successor to TA. Definitely worth a look.

I highly reccomend that you look up dominator on youtube he posts and also plays tournaments for this game it still has an active scene and the game is actually a really good watch at high skill level

WHATEVER DAY9 TOOK, I WANT
This really WAS a great game.
I believe that there used to be a feature in the base game where you could shift-chain attack commands, but - interestingly - it broke the game somehow and units would "forget" the command after 3 or 4 links on th chain. And if you did it too often the game would crash because a windows popup would tell you that you pressed "shift" 7 times in a row and it was having .... questions? So they had to remove it?
I fucking loved AND hated that game so much.
Shawn was right on stream: All of these "strategy" games were basically one tactic: LEARN THE CHEESE.
Learn the one thing in that scenario that you have to spam to achieve easy victory.
The one way to play through that is sometimes so random, so stupid or so basic that you die 5 times before figuring it out.
That level he ran over his snipers with his truck (WHY is that a feature???) was the leve I cheesed with flashbangs. I just bombed enemies out of their own bunkers and buildings, occupied them with my rocket defenders and turned their own fortifications against them.
By the end, not a single building of the town was left standing. The - remember - town we were canonically bringing relief supplies to to SAVE THEM.
Still won though gg ez
But I can - in all honesty say - that I GOT YOUR MISSILE LAUNCHER RIGHT HERE holy god
Plus, the superweapons are the easiest contender, right? That surveilance drone combined with the orbital death ray is just broken as hell.
AND C&C Generals lends itself exceptionally well to "turtle-ing", a defensive strategy employed by Shawn in the last mission:
Just create a belt of defense buildings,
fence of your corner of the map,
harvest all resrouces
and build superweapons behind your own DIY Iron Curtain.
I used to play tournaments on LAN parties and almost always the "limit superweapons" box would be checked. If it wasn't the game could be over in 5-7 minutes. Nobody wants that.
But we literally had to make up rules for what specialized general could be used and who couldn't because these specialities were all kinds of brokenly unbalanced.
Chinese tank general to the last, BTW, because building those flamethrower dragon tanks early is both a good rush tactic and a near-universal defense against other rush tactics.
Plus, if you expand fast enough you can afford the big tanks with the gaitling guns on their heads, which is my favourite all-rounder death machine to spam.

oh another strange/funny thing to do is to get your standard marine to capture the enemy base hahahha. Always a laugh when you are Lan'ing and hear the reaction as the enemy cant do anything about it hahha!
