I actually felt bad for the robot at the end! It went through all the trouble to line up the perfect shot and he just swatted it! Poor little robo.

Biggest badass moment I've seen for Jimmy was when he smacked that ball away.
Jimmy actually made two cups since it bounced off the front cup and landed in the back one. Trust me on this, I go to college. Then in some houses that would have been all three cups since it bounced off the other player (robot).

For all those wondering what the metal square is doing at the bottom of Jimmy's cup, it is a thin metal square that is stuck to a magnet on the inside of the cup, which is used to set off sensors in the table that tell the robot which cups are remaining in the game and which cup to aim at.

this robot isn't playing pong... we have robotic arms, and visual sensors... The engineers took the lazy way out, specific positioning of the cups, and pneumatics

I noticed there seemed to be a magnet or something on the bottom of the cup that the robot was aiming at. There was not the same thing on the other cups.
It's not made by Empire Robotics... the gripper, the Versaball, is made by empire robotics. The robot is a Universal Robots UR5, a collaborative robot manufacturer from Denmark
Notice on the first shot by the robot, the cup it got it into had a little metal strip on the bottom. Probably not the first machine to do something like this.....but still pretty cool

That's pretty sweet, a sensor on the bottom of the cup makes the robot calculate the proper trajectory.
Not quite...the trajectory is pre-calculated by the robot/gripper - the plates at the bottom are magnetic and tell the robot which cups are remaining. Pretty cool stuff though!

Since the robot can't see, it probably needs to know the coordinates of its surroundings somehow. The thing at the bottom of the cup might be some sort of gps tracker device so it knows where to aim. I don't know, though... I don't specialize in making beerpong playing robots lol
