  • There are some structures in the heart that are remnants of adaptations to the circulation through it that we used when we were foetuses to avoid sending blood to the lungs. Let's have a look at those and talk about what "hole in the heart babies" really means.

I’m late but this is really cool. I was one of the babies with a hole in my heart and I was always curious what was going on when I had it (it thankfully closed when I was 4) but I remember going to the hospital every week to get it monitored but I never knew why I was going there because I was so young. But when I learned why years later I always wanted to know so thank you!

Thank you so much. You always convey a lot of detail and important concepts very clearly. After listening to 2 weeks of cardiology lectures, you brighten my week.

Our son was born with pulmonary hypoplasia and they used prostin to keep the hole open, which decreased the load on the heart (one of the chambers wasn't fully filling?). Your video helped explain why they did this.... a little.
