    NEW PART TWO SLEEPER BUILD:
    czcams.com/video/akkH2E2o_-U/video.html
    For extra clarification around pricing, the total cost of the Watercooling stuff and the console was $200NZD ($125USD). The arduino stuff I already had. All temperatures are in celsius. Hope you all enjoy this video! *As always if you have any feedback or thoughts, please leave a comment!
    Q&A Below.
    *. Why did I do this?
    The Xbox 360 was my first games console, and since I had never watercooled anything before, I thought It'd be fun to try water cooling it.
    *. Are you stupid?
    I went into this project with almost no research and exerience, I just went for it and made many mistakes. I've received a ton of feedback which I'm extremely grateful ful.
    *. RGH, SSD, softmod?
    This console (Xbox 360 E, Winchester Board) can't be RGH modded, I didn't know what model console I was purchasing, It was a bundle deal and I'm not complaining. Due to this video's performance, I've added it to the list to redo this video with an RGH compatible console, where watercooling, RGH, and other mods will be worth doing.
    *. That's awesome!
    Thanks!
    *. That's a waste of time and money.
    That's fair. My execution of the project was not good enough to deserve this much attention. I intend to do it justice with the second attempt.
    *. Why not a higher end console?
    Budget, lol

      It would be interesting, but I imagine they’d probably still fail at some point. The chips are still getting hot when under load; it’s the thermal expansion and contraction cycling of the chip and interposer that was responsible for the RRoD, not overheating.

I bought a few packs of M3 screws with multiple lengths that are used with an allen key bit (I don’t know the name) and I use them for almost every project. For general modding, 9/10 times M3 screws are used, I have noticed M2’s being used occasionally, but it’s much rarer.

    As someone that water cools each ram stick with a dedicated 420mm rad i see this as a undercooled system

  • @hn1f
    @hn1f Před 5 měsíci +6

    You should JTAG the console and try compiling stuff like gentoo on it for the ultimate test of your water-cooling /s

      Unfortunately this model can’t be modded with RGH or JTAG, but hopefully I’ll be able to try this again (and do it better) with a non Winchester model xbox 360.

      Jtag is impossible on all slims. It only works on phat consoles running dashboard 7371 or lower. The next best thing is rgh3 which is only 2 wires and a resistor and works on all consoles EXCEPT Winchester, xenon, and zephyrs.

      @@TommyHoughton Why not do it on an Xenon 360? Those are most known for overheating problems anyway right?

      @@randomchannel9331 If I can find one then that could be a good extra project, but I definitely want to try getting RGH3 on a (compatible) slim console, primarily for the practice and features.

      @@TommyHoughton Well the xenons are compatible with RGH 1.2 iirc

    i would just like to say that at the beginning when you say "the xbox 360 isnt visually striking' your technically correct when it comes to older ones with the hourglass shape the whole point was customization faceplates and the like but the Elite model you have is a direct predicessor of the og xbox 1 and why they look very similar your image has a mix of base and later models that have been de crazified

    This man needs a LLT screwdriver to not hit resisters or other components

      While I may not have the LTT one yet, I was able to get another ratcheting one, which has been performing well.

    Looks cool, but I think it being without a case and ambient air doing a big chunk into negating obstructive cooling from the case. At the start of the video I was really thinking how it would all fit in a (new designed) case; maybe that is step 2?

    • @TommyHoughton
      @TommyHoughton  Před 5 měsíci +1

      I’ll be putting it all into an old pc case for part two. My goal is to make a sort of “sleeper build.” I have about 1.5 videos to do before I get to work on that.

    Very neat, i was suprised he said nzd i think that the first time on CZcams i have heard nzd. Also i hope that the project go's well and if you try getting in tge pc case good luck, i think it will be cool. Maybe cables from the board to the cd drive and replace the original that would be so cool, a xbox that looks like a pc.
