  • I recently purchased the new OMM Halo+ Jacket. I take it out in some of the worst weather i've witnessed in 2021 to see how it holds up.

    Great review of the Halo - I've just recently had to retire my current Halo after 3years of running abuse and it's done me so proud through trail Ultras, blizzards, torrential rain (Every time i do an ultra is seems to snow!) - it's a great piece of kit, like you said OMM are only too happy to interact with you and suggest you the best kit. I did take a punt and get myself the 2020 Kamleika jacket and It's great, it'll definitely deflect the worst of weather on those more hardcore runs, but for everyday it's too much and I miss my Halo so much, I will eventually get one again. Thanks for reviewing.

      Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment, I really appreciate it. I have to say, the Halo continues to be a fantastic jacket and I’m pleased I chose it. It’s reassuring to hear how great it was for you in multiple ultras and I’m hopeful it does me proud also as I begin to challenge it in varying conditions. I was tempted by Kamleika but OMM staff convinced me otherwise. Thanks again for the comment, it’s much appreciated

    I like the method you used to pick a supplier. They certainly deserved your custom based on their response. The jacket looks a tad more effective than the Decathlon special I've been rocking thus far in my running career 😁

      Absolutely. They were so decent about helping me that I had no issue handing over the cash and having confidence that the product would do the job. Equally, if it didn't I know I could have had that dialogue with them and discussed next steps.

      There was definitely a healthy amount of rain and it’s continuing as we speak. Crazy ‘summer’ weather. It’s a very impressive jacket thus far!

      It’s definitely pleasing to have a jacket that can protect me from the elements and i was fortunate (sort of) that we have such useless weather in August at the moment 😄

  • @raysollarsthehappyjogger5907

    Thanks for the tip Dan. I just went on Amazon and found the jacket and put it on my list of things to buy. Of course, I will wait until the rainy season here in Southern California. Right now, it is damn hot here.

      The Halo (not plus) is also a great option and likely even cheaper as it’s technically the previous version, although still a current model on sale by OMM

    Can you tell me what the difference is between this Halo+ & the Halo?

      I believe it’s just in the design, with a longer back for additional coverage. I still use this jacket in the video and it’s a workhorse

    Nice piece of kit Dan.
    Certainly got a good day for it!
    How do you think it’ll go over a few hours of sustained wind and rain in ultra conditions, say Arc of Attrition on a cold January?

    • @DanRuns
      @DanRuns  Před 3 lety +1

      So I was out in total for 2.5 hours and it kept me dry and safe from the elements. When I spoke to OMM direct the guy I was chatting with recommended it on the basis of my ambition to take it on 50 mile ultras. He spoke of how he had used it comfortably on multiple ultras himself. As for retaining heat, I only had a T-shirt on underneath and I was comfortable. I think it would be a layer up underneath and make a judgement call once you’re moving. I’d love to tackle the Arc

    What's it like on unsleeved arms Dan? Any sort of clamminess against skin

    • @DanRuns
      @DanRuns  Před 3 lety

      Good question. I only noticed a bit of ‘sticking’ after an hour or so with the combination of me becoming a little sweatier and the rain beating down on the fabric to my arm. Overall the breathability meant it wasn’t stuck to my skin, but I think the nature of the internal fabric is that it will always generate a bit of stickiness. My Salomon Bonatti jacket previously was much, much worse on unsleeved arms

    Thanks for the review, do you think it will have some abrasion resistance, so you could wear it with a backpack?

    • @DanRuns
      @DanRuns  Před 2 lety +1

      Since recording this video I’ve used it multiple times with a hydration vest and a general backpack on days out. The jacket seems to be hard wearing with no obvious signs of use.

    • @DanRuns
      @DanRuns  Před 2 lety

      Yes, that is a strange element to the jacket! I feel like I need to be tied down at times so that I don’t blow away

  • @footballisunited9642
    @footballisunited9642 Před 2 lety +1

    It looks as if it really flaps about and expands in the wind. Did you find you were struggling with wind resistance because of the jacket?

    • @DanRuns
      @DanRuns  Před 2 lety +1

      So I’ve used it a good number of times since. I have a small head so someone with a normal sized head could fill the space better I’m sure. The other night I ran in torrential rain with thunder and lighting and it worked really well - no resistance or issues with it flapping around or falling down. If you zip it up to the top it brings the hood in tighter
