    I’ve had a Baron tach on 3 metric cruisers and I’m about to have one installed on a 4th-a Yamaha V Star 1100 Classic, a Vulcan 1500 Classic, a Vulcan 1600 Nomad, and there will soon be one on my new to me Vulcan 1600 Classic. All metrics and all V-Twins. I’ve logged 111,000 miles over 17 years and these tachs have never failed or given me any problem. I suspect the guys who have issues with them or call them “crap” are guys who decide to install them themselves and don’t know what they’re doing. Have your dealer install it; it connects to the ignition coil and that’s not something you should mess with without the knowledge and experience. It’ll cost you an hour of labor, but it will mean having a tach that works perfectly vs one that doesn’t.

    Good Day.
    Do you stock universal temp gauges that are bar mounted?
    Regards

    So to get a Ignition lead is an orange wire off the main harness rather than your tach adapter for vtwin motor according to the Harley wiring diagram. FYI

    I have installed on 2007 heritage classic wired to factory harness under seat and soldered all connections - the needle bounces and this video says the ground is most common cause-I attached a splice to hook to battery ground-with a copper wire- the ones on the tach are aluminum-will this cause the bounce? Also there is a plug on the speedometer with a tach option can I put the green wire from tach to this or do I still need the adapter for single fire?

    $200 for 1" bars but if you need one for 1.5" bars it around $300 it's nice and all but for that kinda money I can use a koso handlebar mount that cost $100 and spend $160 on a high end tach that has adjustable shift light

    You say" the last one , the green wire just goes to the coil on the negative side, which is the one that picks up the signal". Your picture shows two coils with no designation as to how or where to connect green wire, nor does positive compared to negative and how can I tell which side picks up the signal? I haven't found one clear description as to the coil wire hook up yet so my tach waits to be installed!

    • @CruiserCustomizing
      @CruiserCustomizing  Před 8 lety

      It should not matter which coil is used because they will be firing at the same rate. As for the negative lead you may see some markings on the coil where the wires connect. If not please reply with the Year/make/model and we will establish which wire you need to use.

      Hi, and thanks for the reply. My bike is an 08 Harley FXDF or "Fatbob". The tach is an Autometer procycle model #19325 with a 2 5/8" face. The wires are {2} green, one red, and one black. Thanks alot for any help!

      @CruiserCustomizing  Před 8 lety

      I don't have one of those tach's in the warehouse, and haven't located a set of direction online yet. I did find the number for Autometer's tech department and they can assist you for the install. The wiring could be different from brand to brand so I want to insure you get direction specific to your tech. Please call 866-248-6357 for the tech department and let me know if you need any additional info to help with the install.

      the positive or battery side of the coil will light your test light with the key on, engine not running the other side or trigger will not light the test light, technically both sides of the coil are positive. one side is constant 12volts the other is the trigger voltage positive, the ground is the mounting bolts to the frame. if you reversed the two coil wires from the harness it would make no difference the coil would still work the same way, because nether pin is a ground, technically modern coils are not like induction coils of years ago they are step up transformers a totally different animal

    • @jbhobbyist9372
      @jbhobbyist9372 Před 6 lety

      To determine Positive and Negative of your coils: Most motorcycles will have two wires going to each of the two coils. Each coil will share one common color wire and will have one different color wire. The common color is Positive, and the different colors are Negative. For example Harley Davidson has yellow/green for common Positive and the Negatives are blue/orange for the front cylinder, and yellow/blue for the rear cylinder.

    Hi, I have a kawasaki kz 650 and it has 2 coils, how can I do to join the 2 negatives of the coils and send signal to the tachometer without burning them?
    Because I understand that joining both negatives of the coils is bad.
    Thank you

      @VeritasEtAequitas Před rokem

      @@3613jeremy That's more likely from noise in the wiring system, so you'd use a tach filter, which is just an R-C highpass filter. Obviously you can make your own for a few cents, like the "single fire adapter".

    These Baron Tachs do not work on the majority of metric bikes. Baron knows this and continues to sell them. If you call Baron's tech support with a problem they say "sorry, must not be compatible with your bike". Even though they list your bike as compatible on the website. Total JUNK in my opinion.

    "Singel" fire, lol. Can't spell, nor does he know what he's talking about w/ soldering or compatibility. Hey Barons, how about EVERY SINGLE rear O/D pulley you sell being garbage that wears grooves in a week? Trash soft Chinese aluminum is easier to mill but doesn't perform.
