    Love these no nonsense vids you do
    I have some tubulars but always reluctant to use them on big rides in case of flatting
    Would love to know how you deal with them / what you carry ,maybe even a future how to?

    • @CyclespeedTours
      @CyclespeedTours  Před rokem +1

      Thanks - I don't have the time for fancy shots and production unfortunately, so it's either basic or nothing! I carry a can of foam sealant which works well in 75% of cases as long as the hole isn't too big. If on a long ride I would take a spare, light tub in back pocket or behind saddle. Or call the wife!

    You could use a darimo cockpit and seatpost that will lower the way closer to 5800g rams, use the carbon sport bottle cages with ti screws, they are 7 grams a pieces compared to the one you have, easy and cheap way to save 50 grams

    • @CyclespeedTours
      @CyclespeedTours  Před rokem

      Thanks, already have Darimo seatpost and cockpit saves 100g but is way less aero. My bottle cage is 25g

      I don't really do much MTB any more, but it does surprise me how heavy the latest MTBs are. My Scott Spark LTD from 2015, full suspension is way lighter than all of them!

    great video, thanks!, question those disk brakes (think galfer) give you a consistent not braking?i n my experience light disk go pulsating

    • @CyclespeedTours
      @CyclespeedTours  Před rokem

      Thanks! No the discs are fine. And now with the new DA9200, my brakes are really good.

  • @neilpetch1101
    @neilpetch1101 Před rokem +2

    How you finding the galfer wave rotors? Did you go 160mm front for extra stopping power? I’ve seen a few opt for 140mm front/rear. Aesthetically looks better, but no good if not going to stop you

    • @CyclespeedTours
      @CyclespeedTours  Před rokem +1

      Hi, yeah I've tried both, and 140mm is really not enough, and I'm lightish at 65kgs. If you want to descend properly in mountains then only a 160 front can cut it. But I guess, if you ride in flats like Holland, etc. then a 140 could be OK. I also think the 140 front looks a bit silly. I come from motorbiking where it's quite normal to see much bigger discs up front. Cars too.

    Love your videos! How do you like these wheels after some riding? Do you think it might be better to get the clincher version instead since there is not much weight difference and tire choices will be better with clinchers.

    • @CyclespeedTours
      @CyclespeedTours  Před rokem +2

      Thanks! I love the wheels. But you are right - the clinchers probably make sense and could be made extra light using Tubolito tubes and a race tyre. I am just a die-hard tubular fan!

      @user-dz2rn1iq4l Před rokem

      @@CyclespeedTours I have become a tubular fan recently. I just got my lightweight meilenstein a couple of months ago. I can confirm that nothing beats this with the fmb racing silk tires and I have tried a lot of tires with my other clinchers before. Since you had lightweight before, do you think these extralite wheels still have that 'tubular' feel? If so, I will be happy to get these tubulars for my new climbing bike!

    If they are holding the hub on a screw hole, and it is damaging it. Can they just put a bolt in and hold the bolt?

    Would the darimo bars be a significant saving over stock?

    • @CyclespeedTours
      @CyclespeedTours  Před rokem

      It would be about 200g for the Darimo 380/130 combo, which would save about 100g, but it's not worth it, as a) very expensive, b) lose a significant amount of aero (5 to 6 watts?) and lack of cable integration (2 to 3 watts). I don't want to go lighter if the aero cost is too high.

    Those hubs look too fragile. Carbon-Ti would be a better option, they add like 70 g per set but are way more durable and easy to service.

      Extralite have been around for ages and have a good reputation for making quality light components. They also make ultralight stuff for MTB's too, and I have a stem of theirs that is fine after 10 years+.

    Saving watts with silicon and immediately lost with tubular tires 😂😂

    • @CyclespeedTours
      @CyclespeedTours  Před rokem

      Most pro teams seem happy on tubs even if some have switched to tubeless. One of the big advantages of tubs is that a bad puncture at 80kmh on an Alpine descent doesn't cause total loss of control. And a good tub still has a better Crr than an average normal tyre, just depends which one you choose.

    • @CyclespeedTours

      Oh and by the way, this summer a pro was happily explaining how he had 'discovered' the savings of siliconing his tyre / wheel gap....my vid on that is 6 years old.....
