    Good video. Not a big weight weeinie guy but it is pretty obviously the new 48/58 wheelset is where the system weight savings are. It’s a big gap to the Sworks frame weight.

    Does anyone know if Factor fixed the rear Thru-Axel problem that exists on version 1 of this bike? Also, there are lots of posts online about the bottom bracket creaking and the headset compression plug/steer tube problem. Hopefully all of these problems have been fixed on this 2024 model.

      The headset / steerer problems were fixed quite early on. I got a new fork in 2021. My BB area does creak on and off which is annoying. We Loctite d the blue cups in and I regrets the crank axle often. Right now, it's pretty quiet, let's see how long that lasts!

    @CyclespeedTours - What does your Ostro VAM V1 Total Bike weigh with pedals? In Pedal Lane PH CZcams channel, they show the complete bike built up with pedals in size 54cm is a Total of 6.88kg. | 15.16lbs. Are you saying your Ostro VAM V1 Total Bike weight with the same pedals weighs less than the V2? The V2 Frame & Fork might be heavier than the V1 but it seems the V2 Total bike weight is less than the V1 and that is probably mostly due to the new Black Inc. 48/58 wheels that only weight 1250gr. Also, the slight increase in weight of the V2 Frame & Fork supposedly makes the bike more snappy and gives it faster acceleration and better climbing than the V1 because of the increase in frame/fork stiffness. So, lighter weight is not everything. In the end, it comes down to performance and you really need to ride the V2 to make a fair comparison to the V1. One other thing to know is the V2 in the Natural Carbon Black color frame reportedly weighs 100+ grams lighter than the white frame.

    • @CyclespeedTours
      @CyclespeedTours  Před 5 měsíci

      6kg.
      It doesn't mean much to give a full bike weight, because you could have lots of light or heavy parts on there.
      For example, my bike is so light mainly due to the 960g tubular wheelset.
      Indeed, Factor cleverly conceal the increased frame and fork weight by saying how easy it is to build the bike to 6.8kg.
      But just about any decent modern road bike can be built to 6.8kg, so this doesn't really say much.
      I could build a V2 to 6.3kg, no problem, but I can build an SL8 to 5.7kg, which is what I prefer to do.
      As for stiffness, I only put out 280W FTP (65kg) so if an SL8 is good enough for pros (450W, peak 1500++) then it's OK for me. F=ma, so an increase in weight simply cannot = faster acceleration, unfortunately.
      This is why hill climb bikes are stripped to the bare minimum, because the riders understand Newton and gravity.

I also want the ability to use a clip-on bar and Black Inc has the best cockpit for this, better than the ENVE I have now. Given that I could easily loose 10lbs of body weight, I think I'd rather live with the extra 400g (1lb) of bike weight be on a bike I love to look at.

My best and favorite set up so far has been with clx alpinist for climbing, and Enve ses 4.5 hookless for all road. Clx rapids 2 are complete dog shit. If you get clx rapids get gen one, they are 200 grams lighter than 2 and you can set them up tubeless without ever having any issues. Don’t worry what they say they are tubeless compatible, I have tried them with every set of wheels with every type of rider you can imagine. I mean, if it is out of passion, building a light bike just because it is fun, as a challenge so to speak, fair enough, go for it! But out of performance reasons or because it “feels” lighter… sorry but that’s just stupid. And it is the ongoing and never-ending disease in road cycling. Engineering and development would be such much further, if 100 grams here and there wouldn’t matter so much because so many customers are stuck forever with the most primitive metric there is. At the end of the day we are not talking kilos, it’s 200 grams or so. With a 6,8kg bike that’s less than 3 percent and with a 70 kg rider less than 0,3 percent for the system weight. I have been following you from pretty much day one. I always enjoy your videos but this one I just don't get. Your bike shop must love you :-) It pays to research before committing and messing people around. You are obsessed with this weight-weenie stuff. We have seen you having issues with wheels and now a frame. All manufacturers are misleading with the weight information. It's down to the customer to get it checked out and weigh the frame etc. I have raced all over Europe and had all kinds of frames and wheels. I have had ultra lightweight skittish bikes and slightly heavier bikes. Nothing really held me back. I've had lightweight gipfelsturm wheels and bora ultras etc. Your obsession is actually ruining your enjoyment my friend. It's so tiring just even watching this stuff. I really don't mean to cause offence , but please just get on and enjoy your cycling !

    • @CyclespeedTours
      @CyclespeedTours  Před 5 měsíci

      As an old regular, I appreciate your comments. What I would say is that noone was messed around. My LBS knows me well, and it was made clear that I would buy the frame subject to the weight checking out. It didn't, but there are no hard feelings anywhere.
      My 'research' told me that a 54 should weigh 820g, but the 52 weighed 915 and the fork has put on 100g too.
      For some, I totally understand that this is meaningless, but as you know, I like to build a light bike, and if the frame is heavy, then you are crippled from the start.
      When spending 5k on a frame, it would be nice to have some truth in it's specs. If I buy a Porsche with 400hp, I don't want 350, and a dishwasher at 38dB, should not be a noisy 45dB.......etc. etc.
      The wheels you mention were also out of spec, but it was impossible for me to know this in advance, or indeed, why would I think to check their diameter? I now have 2 pairs of their tub wheels (339T) which I think are great, at 960g.
      I cycle 16k kms per year, and I love every minute. Would I enjoy it as much on a heavier bike? Maybe, but I have ridden friend's bikes and they just aren't as 'flickable' as mine, so I think the light weight is a part of what I like in how a bike rides.
      I'm not TOTALLY obssessed! If that V2 had been say 850g, I still would have bought it, but it was just too far off, and I feel that is now an 'aero bike' not an 'all purpose, light aero bike', although no doubt it is still a great bike that rides well. They will sell many, and have lots of happy customers.
      I get the SL8 tomorrow, and I will build it light, as I always do, and then let's see how it rides! It will be interesting to compare it to my Ostro V1.
