Interesting thoughts. I've always been a mice user as I feel that trackpads would cause fatigue over time. I disliked the design of the magic mouse because it forces you to use the claw grip which isn't very comfortable to use not to mention the weird position of the charging port. I got fed up with Logitech Options software glitches recently and decided to use the magic trackpad as a daily driver. I was blown away at how great it felt and there was no fatigue at all even after a few days of use! I feel this is a product that people would definitely be disappointed if Apple stopped making them. As the popularity of macs (macbook air and pro in particular) grow, so has the interest of people in desktop class macs like iMacs which would require a mouse/trackpad; And the trackpad as you've mentioned IS something Apple has done exceptionally and well known for. I think the only scenario where trackpads won't work well is when you're doing some type of work where cursor precision is required such as photo editing.

Very good points, thank you. I also had the Magic Mouse and I’m a palm grip guy so I could never get used to the feel.

After using the trackpad on my mba m1 and a performance mouse gpx superlight on windows... I cannot use the magic mouse 2 anymore. Feels so sluggish with delay BT 3.0 when moving the mouse and cursor registering. Definitely get the magic trackpad standalone over the magic mouse. It's either magic trackpad 2 or a performance mouse (gpx, viper ultimate, starlight, etc.)

Not essential? Speak for yourself. As a developer, me and my friend actually hunted down the trackpad replacement because we work with mac books closed connected to external monitors and the trackpad and external keyboards are absolute essentials. We can open our notebooks and use the trackpad but that just spoils our workflow.

I also noticed as well that as you were moving the trackpad around it looked a bit fuzzy. Did you export it differently?

If you don't want to use a mouse then you do need the trackpad.
