@@tristanbeck9902 Im 13 and I do 20 - 30 every couple of minutes when I feel like it until I get about 200 every day will I be strong or do I need more
I did military push ups with knees not toes before but soon after 3 weeks of doing them I can now do normal military push up with my toes and low as possible
keep it tucked and hit low, people (like me) get impressed when they can hit high numbers of reps, but it means little when you have a wide push up style, and dont hit 90 degrees. it works the shoulders more than anything, tucked in and hitting depth kills the triceps and chest.
I do diamonds followed by narrow width on my arms, it really pumps my triceps especially after putting weights on my back and I do slow pushups, it is really making my triceps growth and it's been like 10 days since I restarted and already feel this new thing I'm doing is way better than fast pushups I did before.
I keep head forward even harder. Been doing like that whole life. As a kid even I heard it was the hardest one and then mix up with all other ways of doing push ups and vollaaa
@Fjerid not really, that would be the same as saying "standing is bad for your knees" It is in long extended durations, but for the short bursts of pushups the kind of pressure wont do a thing. It actually helps you do more repetitions because you're stretching the muscles all the way with each rep. If you stop short you're only getting part of the full extension and you're tearing muscle tissue without stretching it to promote growth which is the entire point.
@skramamme Variations on the standard pushup form can be beneficial. Depending on arm placement - wide, narrow, or in-between - the primary emphasis can be placed on different muscle groups (chest, shoulders, or arms). The best way just depends on what part of your torso you wish to work the hardest, or, as in your case, the way that minimizes joint stress.
@blackbone330 you'll be able to do more in that time period, but a good way to get triceps quickly is to do that pushup with your hands together to form a triangle pattern on the ground. What i do is go from inclined triangle pushup to normal inclined push up and then drop down to normal height (I.E your feet arnt on top of something any more) and start the triangle pushup and then the final pushup is the normal pushup. then you have the tricep endurance to try for chest mass =D ryt back if lost
It's in the elbows, most people when starting to do push ups they do it with their arms perpendicular to their torso. This way, the elbows are closer to your upper body
so i wanted to come back and comment...and to say thanks to everyone for the great advice i am doing way better with my push ups i do ten push ups every hour on the hour so thats huge for me.. thanks..lol
Im in a DEP program fro Navy I have a contract for EOD and we have to go to a PST every other week and we do corrrect form of military push ups sit ups and pull ups as part of the PST! in the push up .... your to look forward the whole time... break 90 degrees with ur elbows when you go down and come up and lock out arms!
@Armoredcompany Ok, what about bench presses? if you stretch when pressing a hundred kilo's away from you. isn't that bad either? i'm a little confused.
@Fjerid technically its not really "bad" for you unless you're trying to lift more weight than you're physically capable of doing. Pushing straight away from your body is the way your arms function best. The way it would be "bad" for you would be trying to hold that weight straight out from your body while standing up. Your arms aren't designed to support the weight in that manor. You can do it but it takes years of conditioning to strengthen the necessary muscles to take weight off bones.
. _I don't get my nose to the floor, I put one of my cheek to the floor in one rep, and the other cheek on the following rep., and so on. That way I get my chest to be somewhat closer to the floor, intensifying this exercise._ _I do this exercise slower, so it is more demanding, but the results are better._ .
@PLjaysmith I thought the same thing. But, It doesn't matter how big you are. You don't have to be huge to lift a lot of weight. He's probably extremely fit and well rounded in the gym and on the track.
@blackbone330 honestly don't worry about it, every1 starts off on a bad arm, but you will get there eventually, and definately in that time period, just start up high with the diamond, then normal high, then normal diamond, then normal pushup, or start with diamond flat, you may only get a few but thats when you jump to normal ground push-up or dips, it's how you build muscle, not argueing =D Try it 3 times a week, plus if you have no dumbells, lift a heavy flower pot and hold it still for bicep
What is the difference between normal (slow) push ups and military push ups? Better try other pushup variations like triangle pushups and wide pushups.
@gggeeh On the way down, you always want to be slow and controlled. On the way up, its up to you. Depends what type of strength you wanna build. Slow is more normal, but fast can help build explosive power (good for martial arts, bboying etc.)
@tyleiz2007 Raw practice. Just like any other exercise. repetition until failure, everyday that you can. If you can only do 5, do that all the time. When you can do 6, do it all the time. I'm talking 10-15 tries a day. Most people say you should do small sets for stability. I say go hardcore...works for me.
DO NOT LOOK DOWN. If you do that then you will subconciously drop your head as you are descending and you won't go down as far as you should. When you do pushups look up. In other words if someone was sitting in front of you while your doing a pushup try to stare are their face. Also you have to "break the plane" with your elbows otherwise you won't develop the fast twitch muscle groups correctly. That means that you draw an imaginary flat surface( plane ) across your back and your elbows have to cross it with EVERY pushup. Your arms should be parallel to the ground when you descend. It's easier to do with someone else watching you to tell you when you've broken the plane or in front of a mirror so you can see yourself.
i thought looking up could put strain on the neck in a certain way that could eventually lead to a spine problem. i always used to push up like that, and then a PT told me to keep the neck neutral so the spine was as straight as possible from top to bottom. not trying to say you are wrong by any means im no expert but the way it was explained to me seemed to make sense...
crazycommenterguy - While I was in the Army that is how they taught us to do pushups. Body is parallel with the ground and you are looking straight ahead a.k.a. looking at the horizon.
Jason Nida You're suppose to do it nose to the floor. I never do that, when I did my neck would begin to hurt as I got closer to the ground. Military men are the only ones I really see looking forward. Maybe it's because you need to be looking at him at all times for further instructions.
@Ryuus31 Doing all exercises you must breathe OUT when you are comming to finishing possition and breathe in when you are comming to starting possition. In this case going up is going to finishing possition, so you must b reathe OUT.
People are always yelling at me to have my chest touch the floor but he has his chest a few inches off the ground and lining up his shoulders and elbows which is usually what I do
isn't unhealthy to stretch you arms fully? cuz if you do so, you take the press of your chest and triceps and put it on your joints... correct me if i'm wrong.
No, you should always look down at the floor/ground to keep your head aligned with the spine. Looking forward could also strain your neck muscles. Maybe the army say otherwise because of discipline but that´s something else.
+Kristoffer Mossfeldt No, you do keep your head up, look about 2-3 feet in front of you. But yes, looking 180 degrees ahead may hurt your neck and will make your back sag, looking down is just as bad because it makes your body feel lower than it is meaning incomplete reps, sometimes you really can't go lower because your head is in the way. Also it makes you look like a goof ;)
It would be helpful if people took pictures of military presses from the side. People tend to do the front of the body but not a side long picture from toe to head.
The average person usually does wide grip pushups and when they go down, their elbows point more to the side. MIlitary pushups have a closer grip and work the triceps more than your regular gym class pushup
+Kagami Gaming these are regular Pushups, the only variation that I can think of that might be considered a military pushup is having your biceps forward.
+axamsa if you can't do these Pushups right then your doing your pushups wrong. Fix your form and work on it. The two best workout routines I find for pushups are: 1- do three super sets of, max diamond pushups, max reg. pushups, and max wide, doing all these pushup variations act as one superset, and you'll do 3 supersets every other day. However this is pretty advanced, so I would just do 100 reg. pushups everyday, with sets of 1/2 or 3/4 your max. These two routines i have found from experience work excellent.
No, a military pushup is nose to the ground and slow, rhythmic up/down cycles. A civilian pushup is what you most likely did in highschool physical education- generally in an up & down motion, as fast as possible, with little width between the hands. This makes it easier and works fewer muscle groups (most notably, your pecs).
why is it on everyone of these videos you have people saying stuff about form and these not being correct push-ups and touching chest to ground when most of the people commenting would not know a proper push-up if there life depended on it i mean come on this guy is a pro trainer he should know what hes talking about
