    I had some soldiers struggle to pass apft because of push-ups. I told them I improved dramatically by "paying rent." Basically, every time I walked through a door frame I would drop and do 20 push-ups. Not only did I increase my score, but I also learned to be more mindful that I was ready before I went anywhere. Running back inside to grab your keys costs you 40 push-ups

      If I did like 20 every time I walked through a door way . Would I still be able to break my limit ? I’m stuck at 30 in a row and around 45 in 2 minutes. If I can’t get my push-ups before I ship I’m fucked .

      @Phonk Addict The fastest way to improve is to just put in the work. There's not much that can help you get better at push-ups than doing more push-ups. The method behind "paying rent" is to give you the excuse to do more push-ups per day, but what it really boils down to is personal accountability and integrity.

Your videos have motivated me work on push ups, pull ups and now I learned what you meant by trotting on my longer runs. I found it's easier on my knee and lower back, plus I don't pay some personal trainer to motivate me, your videos do it for me. Good information and reminders, thank you. I have done a number of variations for push ups, always focusing on strict quality reps also.
    Some additional ones I like are: 1. Push ups with your feet on the ball. It is decline and you have to stay in control.
    2. Do 2 push-ups with 2 knee crunches (slow mountain climbers). Slow is key, if you pause and crunch the 2 knees you’ll feel it. That way works chest and core, and the pauses enable a few more push ups.
    Have an awesome day.

    I also use a plate carrier vest for push-ups. Wrist issues have me doing knuckle pushups more often than not, but I just think of it as an extra challenge, I’m not military, just do it for fitness along with my regular workouts. Typically 50 pushups x 4 sets. Great video and tips! Just subscribed!

      Turn your hands outward, that way you bend over the side of the wrist rather back of the wrist. Another solution is slightly raise just the heel of your palm/hand. That reduces the wrist angle.

    • @tonyk1amt806
      @tonyk1amt806 Před 7 měsíci +2

      Changing wrist angle can help definitely. I just prefer doing knuckle push-ups at this point, a little tougher and increased range of motion, as I still go to ground and all the way up just before elbow lock. Keep it up guys!

    Very helpful tips, Ive been stuck at 50 pushups for close to a month, Im hoping using some of your tips will help me improve and break this plateau. Doing pushups before bed will disrupt your sleep, its best to get your resting heartrate to as low as possible before sleeping for the best sleep, for the same reasons regarding food which also raises your heartrate that's why you should have your dinner at least 3-4 hours before going to bed.

    I never thought of doing push-ups in specific sets like this. My trainer usually does have me do a $300. Which does get me to about 50 push-ups in the entire workout. So I suppose it's sort of works out this way but as far as how many reps I get in each time I do a set to finish the 50 is not consistent. That's the difference and I think I'm going to try this. This video is awesome and I'm definitely excited to try the different ways to get this down. I can barely get to 15 push-ups but I'm also not trying to be in the military but I definitely want this to help with my workouts :-). Thanks for the info! And thanks for service

    Body weight skull crushers are real good to help guys who have trouble hitting that lock out in the top. For those who haven’t heard of this exercise it’s essentially the plank position palms downward and at about shoulder width or slightly inward if you’re a tricep dominant guy. Anyways all the exercise consist of is pushing yourself up from that plank position to the front leaning rest then control the negative back down.

    Leg lifts and flutter kicks really helped my push-ups it strengthen my lower back. And you gotta love 2 count navy seal Burpee‘s for the endurance factor. Because if you want a high push-up count you gotta have strong-endurance. Are used to have a place where I could do a 2 count Navy Seal Burpee jump up to a bar that I could do a chin-up on ever set “ loved that”.

    Great video! Thought I'd post a correct principle that complements your instruction: "Practice does not make perfect. Only perfect practice makes perfect." (Vince Lombardi) This underscores your repeated emphasis on push-up form or technique. A friend of mine stated the same principle a bit differently: "Practice makes permanent; perfect practice makes perfect."
    When I was active duty several times I banged out 120 push-ups on the old APFT. The secret to my training was heavy dumbell presses (100 lb. each) with 4-5 sets of 6-8 repetitions coupled with extensive heavy tricep training (weighted dips, cable extensions, etc.) in the same session. So when I'd get to the line to test, my upper body felt light as a feather with my body weight at 168 lbs.

    Great video. One thing that has helped me is to bench press with only 10lbs on each side of the bar... and do sets of about 50 reps.
    One thing I've really been concerned about is sit-ups. Would love a video on that. That's my one area of weakness in the RPFT. Thanks!

    I’ve always been on the fence about variations. The best way to get better at regular push-ups is so do regular push-ups. But variations and resistance training break up the repetitiveness, which makes it more enjoyable and easier to train consistently. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this

    • @GrittySoldier
      @GrittySoldier  Před 2 lety +24

      Agreed exactly. Doing variations will also help build strength faster and more complete, because you’re targeting different muscle groups. 👍

    I don't subscribe to much on YT but I had to subscribe to your channel. I got off active orders last year and checked into a SELRES unit in the Navy. Your videos have been a great help and motivator for fitness. I like lifting weights and have no issue getting good, heavy weight training sessions in but that doesn't translate much for the PRT. My run times are horrendous. I need to stay in the "good low" category to stay in the Aircrew rate and runs are my downfall. I have taken your advice you gave in another vid and started doing a more dynamic warmup but I just can't seem to increase speed or distance. I have never been a good runner and I just can't seem to improve on it. I love your videos man! Thank you for taking the time to make the content!
