    As an old time player of action taimanin (played the JP version, but then created new account on global's early start), I agree they decently know what the player base thinks. For example with the blowback of Annerose's pay-only release, there's been no new characters released this way.
    Even with the decent generosity, I remember AT being one of the top 50 revenue generating play store game. Not great, but definitely not bad either. I see some people on fb complaining on how gremory is bad, but TBH, I see how gremory manage AT as being one of the better companies out there in mobile game space (not to mention, the complains seem just so ridiculous at times, the more saner players seem to prefer discord).
    Overall, with how bare it was at release, it's nice seeing how the game has become quite a bit richer with contents, even adding new gameplay mode (though I would have love it to have more special mini games). Sadly at the same time, I seem to have develop gacha game fatigue now, and stay more on the game because previous investment, and only for new event supporters and Rinko.

      @overworkedsalaryman  Před 8 měsíci +4

      Yea Rinko is really nice 🙏
      It feels like Gremory got a lot of bad rep because of their more questionable moves but the thing is that a lot of the recent issues are coming out from their Tokyo branch because of that one director but AT is managed largely by the Osaka branch so even within the same small company the culture and type of lead is very different.
      With AT it definitely feels like the team that manages it is more aware of an willing to listen to their audience which is nice to see and part of why it feels like that game will be able to continue succeeding for now where the other two games seem to not be doing too well. Top 50 revenue is pretty good though I hafta say 👍. Feels like there are many games out there that would kill to be managed well enough to be there at least in Japan with the huge number of smaller titles that end service.

    Hey there, I recently found your channel through the Action Taimanin discord and I love your insight!
    One concept touched upon that I feel it warrants a video on its own is how outsourced companies interact and how this interaction, or lack there of, can affect the game development of continuous services like gacha games. Action Taimanin is a good case study because it has three companies involved, Gremory developing the game, Lilith which is most closely associated with Taimanin, and Infini-Brain which is the larger holding company and the one calling the shots (or so I understand). Even among the long time players of Action Taimanin there's a lot of confusion as to where the line ends between Gremory and Lilith and perhaps understanding how companies like these work and how their production affects game development can help us understand the good or bad decisions they make.
    One interesting decision that I'd love to see how it came to be is the time they released a character as a paid-only feature, Annerose who is not directly a taimanin character but rather is a character from a separate franchise that's still owned by the same company as the one who owns Taimanin.
    According to Gremory, despite the pushback by the fanbase they "cannot" make Annerose able to acquire through free currency due to the fact that she's not a taimanin character, something that doesn't make sense to the people who think Gremory, Lilith, and Infini-Brain are for the most part the same entity, however the complexities of this situation surely lies in the interaction between these companies.

    • @overworkedsalaryman
      @overworkedsalaryman  Před 7 měsíci +2

      Hey hey, I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
      Coincidentally, I've been considering starting a series of videos some point this year going more in depth into how the game industry in Japan operates, the differences with the rest of the world & the pros/cons of those systems. When it comes to outsource companies I've been thinking of how to incorporate that in as well but you might be onto something. Perhaps I'll do a full video in that series about outsource companies as well. Though that said, I'm planning to start the series by building into all of that slowly starting with the more grounds level part of how they operate so it might be a lil while before I get into the details of outsource companies when I do start that series BUT leaving you hanging doesn't feel right either especially when it comes to stuff regarding specifically this company so I'll just explain some of it now.
      Lilith is the brand of Infini-brain which is the parent company of Gremory. Lilith is the name that they use outward facing as the name that is shown to consumers but they are registered as a corporation under the name Infini-brain instead. Many companies in the industry do this as it makes doing business easier.
      While Gremory is a subsidiary, that term is used in the loosest of sense. They are registered separately as corporations but everyone from both sides are interviewed by the head of Infini-brain and they all work in the same office. They're even shuffled around working on projects of the two where needed. Gremory was initially set up to be the family friendly brand of the company so all titles that aren't R18 would end up under them while everything else was intended to go under Infibrain instead. As for Taimanin RPG... that one was a lil bit of a weird one as the global release was all over the place but what I heard was that the initial plan was for it to have no R18 version hence when it ended up under Gremory but at some point the vision shifted but it stayed under them anyway.
      As for the Annerose issue I don't know the full deets but based of what I know of the company, it's likely because the dev team for it and Taimanin are completely separate. As a result the ones who have the final say for how the work will be depicted in are likely not devs on the Taimanin side. Like most companies it is likely there's some level of silo'ing between the teams and therefore this might've been a stipulation from people within the Annerose team which Gremory had no choice but to comply with since that team is the one with more history and seniority within the company. That said this is just my speculation based off my experience in the various companies in the industry as well as my time there so take it with a grain of salt as it could very well be wrong.

      @@overworkedsalaryman thank you a lot for your valuable insight! I many of us have always been under the impression that Gremory was an outsourced studio in charge of developing the gameplay side of Action Taimanin, mostly because to us western fans AT is the first and frankly only time we've seen the Gremory brand, and because Action Taimanin is known to be developed in Korea as many aspects of the game indicate.
      As a fun trivia: in February of 2023 a character named Aina Winchester was released. One of the achievements you get for leveling her up is called "Hey boss, renew the contract already!" which may or may not be an inside joke about the development woes of Taimanin GoGo as you mentioned in this video.

      @@crushingon The funny thing is that AT's development was indeed outsourced it's just that it wasn't outsourced to Gremory but instead through Gremory that it was then outsourced to another company. It does get quite confusing yea I can imagine. Even in Japan there are many who were confused as to who Gremory was initially as well. It's just that with enough digging it'll turn up in Japanese that the head of both companies is the same person which makes it more bizarre why they didn't just announce that they had this seperate brand set up.
      The Aina line just feels even funnier with the backdrop of the situation of the company though ngl lol

We, Taimanin fans (JP and GBL) should really put them against the wall and pull the shit out of them to show what we want or otherwise this franchise won't grow further.

      Yea going sfw for some of their titles if done right feels like it would've been a great way to get more people into the series too which would then have been great as a way for them to expand it more. It was part of the reason why I decided to work there as well in hopes of being able to help contribute to that but some of the people they have working on those projects.... especially the higher level management did feel like quite a problem. Hopefully as they hire more people they manage to pull in some more competent people as well.
      Though it's pretty cool what BD does for the series. It's thanks to the stuff he makes that it does feel all the more like this is a series that could if it wanted to go sfw (or at least just sfw enough to get onto the play store) could really pull it off and have people support it still if the game is well made as he shows that there are people who genuinely do love the series like many of his viewers too. 👍👍👍

    It's always surprised me how often eroge and adult franchises in Japan become successful non-h games/works. (Fate being the obvious example). Is it really just because companies love to capitalize on brand recognition, even if it's primarily adult? Or is there some sort of cultural precedent for thinking, "Hey, I remember that girl. I saw her ⯀⯀⯀⯀⯀ a ⯀⯀⯀⯀ in her ⯀⯀⯀⯀⯀, while another girl ⯀⯀⯀⯀⯀⯀ her ⯀⯀⯀⯀⯀. I'd love to see her in an action/comedy combat dating sim gacha with wacky hijinks."

      Even with Infi-brain they did manage to pull in good (albeit a lot more nsfw) writers though in terms of game designers their prolly still in the growing pains stage.

Is the game not making enough money that they need to make more merch or has the game become popular enough that Lilith feels comfortable releasing more merch?
    As for Gogo, its sad. I feel that given enough time and push, it could have its own small but dedicated fanbase.

      With Action Taimanin it's more the latter although I don't know how much of the push might be due to their desire to get more money to fund future titles as well since that was more the merchandising department's thing and they were on a different fl.oor from the devs but that said the game itself is sustainable.
      Yea with GoGo it does feel like it would've as you said developed its own base given enough time. When they announced the EoS I saw quite a few really dedicated players showing their stuff too. Taimanin is a very underrated franchise, despite its fame in narrow circles. It has huge untapped resources. You can laugh at my opinion, but I clearly see the feminist potential in the franchise. At least in the games of the original canon (pre-Fuuma era). Why not? Here is a typical plot: A strong and decent woman is being tried to break by perverted representatives of the male world, but she stands up and fights back. Bingo! Wonder Woman, Ripley, Xena and many others will seem like babies compared to Asagi who had to literally eat sh*t to survive and save the people she loved.

    On gacha game, maybe I'm one of the rare ones who think that there really should be no regulation, especially on the gacha part. More regulation mean companies will try harder to try to monetize their games and might spend less time on making more fun parts of the game. Personally I think let the whales to spend as much as they want, and let them subsidize free players. As for the more scrupulous gacha practice, let the players self-regulate it by voting with their wallets.

    • @overworkedsalaryman
      @overworkedsalaryman  Před 8 měsíci +1

      That's a tough subject in general it feels like yea. Because parts what you say is true in that regulation leads to a lot of wasted time dealing with monetisation over focusing on gameplay. In all the gacha game projects I had worked in previously a large part of time gets wasted on compliance such as on sitting there rerolling a gacha in a simulation over and over to ensure the n-distributions are close to the displayed rates etc which is soul sucking and draws dev attention away from focusing on stuff like content planning.
      That said, while there are games that try their best to be fun on top of having gachas as part of their monetisation, it's also true that a lot of the scummier practices like comp gachas and some of misrepresentations in banners etc (like putting false or half true information) are only really gone because of the fact that the fear of regulation forces companies to stop so personally I prefer some level of regulation to stop the more serious issues but there is a need for balance which might be hard to achieve for them to intervene but not too much where it causes compliance issues to becoming as time-wasting as they are now.

    The issue with Taimanin GOGO is that it is too sfw like come on.
    Why make such a kid looking game from a franchise like Taimanin? At least Action Taimanin is HEAVY on fanservice which makes it at least close enough to be interesting for the actual fans.
    You can't pretend to catch "new audiences" by disregarding the old one, you gotta adapt to both.

      Yea, that is very true. It feels like it'd be a massively uphill battle for them to try to tap on a new audience of people who want sfw content instead especially kids in particular when those people can just google the IP and realise the history that the series has.
      To do so at the expense of the people that have helped support the series to what it is today feels all the worse. I feel like if they wanted to slowly move toward being more sfw it would've been better if they leaned in the direction of Action Taimanin like you mentioned or started doing more gameplay heavy games kinda like what Alicesoft did with the Rance or Dai series where it can be fun, there can be nsfw or at least just fanservice but thanks to the game being able to stand on its own it'd be able to cater better to both groups. Though that might just be my wishful thinking lol.

      That one scene of Murasaki being turned into a flesh cube is not leaving my mind, and I'd think twice before giving Taimanin to a kid/teen before they understand some ground rules on sexuality and their personal feelings, at least not without supervision. Stick to Nekopara or something similar...

    It's a good video and I hope that people will start to understand that you don't have to blame Gremory for everything and sometimes decisions are made by one "bad guy" or decisions are made by "Big Bosses". For example, you can cite the situation with Annerose in AT and it seems to me that the decision to make her a paywall character was the decision of the "Big Bosses" but not the decision of Gremory.
    As for gogo, I thought from the very beginning that this game would not be a success and I think that the funds and efforts that were spent on gogo would have been better spent on AT.
    And about AT, as I see in the comments, everyone says only positive things, but everyone forgets about the other side of the coin. AT has problems and some of them are big and also now the game is in a state of stagnation and I don't see that Gremory has any ideas how to further develop the game and what needs to be done and I think that the game has great potential and if Gremory can unlock the full potential of the game then AT will be able to earn as such games like Azur Lane, Arknights, Blue Archive and FF7 Ever Crysis.
    And my last opinion, I think that Gremory should focus on AT and scratch their head and think about how to improve the game and how to attract more players to the game, and if there are no ideas in their own head, then you can look at the community of the game and find "Diamonds" among them and then sift these "Diamonds" and among them take the most valuable one. And if Gremory does decide to make another Taimanin game, then please do such a thing as a protagonist player and not Fuuma Kotaro as the protagonist, this character will only make the franchise worse.
