    I am concerned about Nikola Topic’s recent health issues, be he is the best point guard in the draft.
    Stephon Castle is a terrific player, but why would the Spurs choose two point guards???

    • @_AVC_
      @_AVC_  Před 25 dny +1

      I’ll again say I don’t think the Spurs would take Castle to be a PG. If they do take him it’s because they don’t see a great basketball fit, so they are like “hey this kid is talented and fits our culture so let’s just take him and figure it out later.”
      As far as Topic yeah I don’t know what to think of the injuries. My buddies tell me it’s apparently not anything all that crazy but I don’t know I’m no doctor haha.

      @@_AVC_ If they take Topic at 4, the Spurs likely are unconcerned with his recent health issues.
      To me, Topic just seems to have a lot of upside. At 18, he is a hell of an athlete. I believe his shooting and defense will improve with time. His passing in unreal.

    Reed's D stats are very telling. He is going to be a great 2-way player. I sure hope the Rockets didn't hire you as a scout.

    • @_AVC_
      @_AVC_  Před 25 dny +1

      Yeah I’ve seen this comment a lot. I do appreciate your support for the kid, I really do. I’ll explain again why scouts don’t care about those numbers.
      Things like steal and block percentages in the college game don’t have a history of translating, especially with guards. That’s in large part due to the enormous difference in style between college and NBA basketball. It’s generally a lot easier to get these stats when the college offense doesn’t have nearly the amount of passes per possession (despite s longer shot clock), nor the ability in the players to make passes 2+ spots away. In essence it’s pretty repetitive.
      You get to the NBA at his size and now you got these huge elite guards that nobody is just taking the ball from and their shots almost never get blocked so how well can you keep someone in front of you becomes a question. Which he in theory should be find at. It becomes a problem though when you have to fight around a screen, close out on a guy in a swing play, or god forbid you get switched off of a guard. That’s just a ton to overcome.

    • @NOJSIP
      @NOJSIP Před 25 dny +1

      @@_AVC_ This is not something that I am not aware of, but desire and dedication to D is a telling sign of the success a player will have in the NBA. You make a solid point, but you as many are overlooking Reed because of his size. Peeps want to point to him being 6' 1-3/4" and 185lb as smallish. First I say, no one plays barefooted in the NBA...he is 6' 3". Next, there are plenty of great guards that are smaller than him. Curry is 6' 2" 185lb (1.5stl+0.2blk career); Payton was 6' 4" 180lb (1.8stl+0.2blk career); FVV is 6' 0" 197lb (1.4stl+0.8blk last season, 1.4stl+0.5blk career); Reed is 6' 3" 185lb (2.5stl+0.7blk in 29 min College Stats). There has been plenty of NBA PGs smaller than Reed that were great defenders. I remember watching Calvin Murphy (Rockets fan since 1972) he was 5' 9" 165lb (1.5stl+0.1blk career) and the NBA didn't record steals the first 3 years of his career.
      You maybe telling me how scouts view Reed due to his smallish size, but playing D is about commitment...always has been and always will be and when you add in quick hands, feet leaping and IQ then you have something. I am not saying he is the next coming or even the best guard in the class (that depends on what you value), but he will make a great mark on the NBA. BTW what team are you scouting for and have in the past?

    • @_AVC_
      @_AVC_  Před 25 dny

      @@NOJSIP I would love to tell ya what team it is/used to be but I try not to reveal that stuff. I don’t know if my teams/players want to be connected to my content so I just air on the side of anonymous haha.
      I wanna make sure I give credit to what you said as well, because it’s true so much of defense is effort. It truly is and I can’t stress that enough. But your physical traits have a big impact as well. Like he can be as smart as he wants and try as hard as he wants but if literally me and him are running on a fast break he ain’t stopping me most of the time. For reference I’m 6’5 215 (D1 basketball was my highest organized level of play). Physics win in the end, so if I’m not a complete moron I’m gonna move you or just get over you.
      I’m excited to see him play though and I hope he ends up somewhere that doesn’t just thrust him into something he can’t handle. Give him the right PD guy and he could go somewhere cool!

    • @NOJSIP
      @NOJSIP Před 25 dny +1

      @@_AVC_ I think under Udoka and FVV he will have the best situation to succeed. I see his ceiling as being one of the all time great defenders and shooters. I say this because of his physical traits to go along with his IQ, desire and commitment. His block rate is no fluke or limited to the college ranks.
      Some players just have better abilities over their opponents. Take Hakeem as a 6' 10" center...he routinely made larger big man look like morons and the smaller players feared him (MJ said he was the only player he feared). His physical traits to go along with his IQ, desire and commitment made teams triple team him...foul out 3 and 4 guys on him, yet he overcame all that and his numbers reflect it. Can you imagine if he played in the 1950/60s what his career stats would have been?
      No offence to you, but as you say playing D1 it is not the NBA. I bet you never faced someone like that. My point is Reed reflects these type of traits. His ceiling is a cross between Curry (shooting) and Payton (defense). Will he make it? Too hard to say, but you can't ignore his superior physical traits, IQ, desire and commitment.
      The Rockets are in the drivers seat at 41 wins with a great young core, vets and coach to take him at #3
      BTW, I enjoy chatting with you. Your BB knowledge is refreshing. I would like to hear your opinion on Stone (GM).

    Man, you can't be paying attention if you have Bronny at 55. The evidence and writing are on the wall in plain daylight. We have roughly 3 weeks remaining until the draft and Bronny's stock could go up even more than it has in the last week. Why, he has the wind at his back and both his workouts have really helped him more than others. Decision(executives) makers from all thirty teams who came to attend his Pro Day in LA were really impressed with him which is why he had all over ten teams request him to work out for them to further evaluate this kid. All they want to do is get him in a room to interview him and see where his head is at and what his expectations for himself are and document this interview in case Bronny turns out to be something they can later trade for and have some information on him for possibly later on in his career. Bronny getting picked in the first round either by the Lakers at 17 or the Suns at 22. Why? Because it brings too much money and teams are about that money for sure. I am telling you this he will be long gone before pick 55. You can book it. Why else do you think he only working out for just those two teams. Rich Paul has already gotten the word and therefore already told and pushed the other teams that wanted to work him out away. Those teams want to steal him in the 2nd round then try and give him a two-way contract. You see these Franchises want to take advantage of his popularity and ability to draw fans to make money but don't want to invest in the prospect to develop him. Rich Paul has been in this business for more than 20 years and knows who and what offer is serious or not. He wants only serious suitors, not teams that have their foot halfway in the door and halfway out. Rich Paul is a smooth operator and Teams know that. Bronny taking a two-way is not happening rest assured of that. One of those teams is selecting him in the first round no question about it. The suns got everyone fooled into thinking that this is a packaged deal meaning Lebron is coming with him. Man please, you would be better off winning a wrestling match against a grizzly bear than Lebron leaving that new mansion he building in Beverley Hills on top taking a massive pay cut. That doesn't sound even remotely correct. Anyway, this kid will not be around at 55 for sure. You might want to revise your draft order if you want to be on the side of correct draft picks.

      Oh no! Sorry 😅! Yeah I always do lottery and then whoever else I think is interesting, but here I got you!
      At 18 they had Ja’Kobe Walter. I personally am not too high on Walter. I think his solid defensive skills probably translate right away because he has a good motor and some solid size but his offense seems like it has a ways to go. The Magic don’t need another potential non shooter/offensive project. I would rather see them take (given who was left in their mock) Tyler Smith or maybe Schierman. Maybe even trade out of it.

    Hi AVC! Been enjoying your content, keep up the great work.
    I am a Trailblazer fan and I have a question about Ayton. I know you're really down on Ayton and want him gone for Scoots developmental purposes. I'm not 100% ready to give up on the dude because he is good at what he does and if he could learn to expand his game that would be awesome (mostly just take 1-2 corner 3's a game). But my question is how do we even get rid of him? I think most teams are aware of his deficiencies and unwillingness to shoot free throwline jumpshots. I just don't know what team would really want the guy. I'm curious what you think Portland could get back for him because at the end of the day he still is a very talented center (just a limited and not ideal skillset) and a pretty good nba starter and I can't really find an easy solution to the Ayton problem except don't resign him in 2 years when his contract is up unless he tries to develop some more skills.
    Anyway lengthy question also Saluan at 7 and Ware at 14!

    • @_AVC_
      @_AVC_  Před 26 dny

      Ayye appreciate the love! Phenomenal question haha.
      The short answer is that I don’t know really how to get rid of him haha. I do think he has value like you said cuz he is good at what he does. I’ve personally experienced how good he is actually haha.
      There would be some team that takes a shot on him, but I don’t think you get draft capital back it’s probably more salary matching stuff.
      If he could become a floor spacer or operate anywhere but the nail at all times then yeah we can make that work haha.
      I like the draft ideas as well!
