    About the game:
Bloodborne is a 2015 action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 4. Bloodborne follows the player's character, a Hunter, through the decrepit Gothic, Victorian-era-inspired city of Yharnam, whose inhabitants are afflicted with a blood-borne disease. Attempting to find the source of the plague, the player's character unravels the city's mysteries while fighting beasts and cosmic beings.
The game is played from a third-person perspective. Players control a customizable protagonist, and the gameplay is focused on strategic weapons-based combat and exploration. Players battle varied enemies while using items such as swords and firearms, exploring different locations, interacting with non-player characters, and unravelling the city's mysteries. Bloodborne began development in 2012 under the working title of Project Beast. Bearing many similarities to the Souls series of games by the same developer and director, Bloodborne was inspired by the literary works of authors H. P. Lovecraft and Bram Stoker and the architectural design of real-world locations in countries such as Romania, the Czech Republic and Scotland.
Bloodborne was released in March 2015 and received critical acclaim, with praise directed at its gameplay, particularly its high difficulty level, atmosphere, sound design, Lovecraftian themes, and interconnected world design. Some criticism was directed at its technical performance at launch, which was improved with post-release updates. An expansion adding additional content, The Old Hunters, was released in November 2015. By the end of 2015, the game had sold over two million copies worldwide. Bloodborne won several awards and has been cited as one of the greatest video games ever made. Some related media and adaptations have also been released, including a card game, board game and comic book series. shoutout wikipedia lol

I’ve come to realize that in my euphoric state post beating bosses, I tend to not talk about the fight itself lmao, so here are my brief thoughts on it. I loved it, I think this fight is one of my favourites so far in my Elden Ring/Bloodborne rookie experience. From the music to the graveyard to the actual aesthetic of the boss and the background story of his daughter and wife, plus the use of the music box it’s just a certified classic in my humble opinion. Also, his dialogue leaves so much for us to interpret, like what he says at the beginning “You’ll be one of them, sooner or later…” and mid-fight when he talks about our “Paleblood” saying “The sweet blood, oh, it sings to me. It’s enough to make a man sick…” Like bruh, foreshadow much, I hope not, we shall see. If you read all this I luv u, see you in the next one

I'm not a lore expert, but...
in yarnham, there were regular people enemies, some werewolf-ish enemies still walking on 2 legs and using weapons, and a couple full blown big wolves.
      ...
those people had some gnarly looking beards eh?
And Father Gascgoine's turns into a beast for his 3rd phase.

One of the sadest moments in this overal sad game... You found that poor little lonely girl and went on to look for her mom, you realize that her dad became a beast but it's getting even worse when you realize that you have to kill her dad... but it's not the end of the story, right after killing herr dad you find out that her dad killed her mom just because she forgot to bring the tiny music box that she gave to you ... and after ALL THAT you just destroyed the last remembreance of her mom out of pure greed for blood. This short but sad story sums up the game pretty much...

Father G is such a good first boss, actually having to become faster than the boss to overcome it is brilliant, you go from being a prey to becoming the hunter.

PS: Unless you're gonna put in a lot of levels into bloodtinge, you'd probably want to pass on upgrading the guns, since they do so little damage anyways. Always check the stat scaling on your weapons!

Hot tip with elevators. Send them back up before a boss in case you die. Also, bloodborn punishes fleeing, and I notice you dodge backwards too much. Gascoine feels easier if you dodge to his side, same with many bosses in bb. The direction of where you dodge matters more so in bloodborn, dodge in the direction the attack comes at you from, if you dodge the opposite way the attack will hit you while you are exiting the dodge.

Btw now that Gascoigne is dead you can get his armor if you want, its at the Insight merchant bath in the Hunters dream, NOT the one you buy stuff from normally. If you don't know where that is, from inside the house in the hunters dream, you go out a small door to a cliff and look left, and that's where this bath merchant is. Humanoid bosses will drop their armor sets there.
Also Armor in bloodborne takes a backseat role, even with the best armor it will only ever reduce damage by like 13%. So most people just wear what looks coolest to them. Time to get your FashionBorne going!

Hey man awesome as always! You're right on the nose - as soon as you hear the parry noise dodge straight at the enemy. Make sure you're kind of walking into the enemy head or tail on before attempting the visceral otherwise sometimes it doesn't register quite right. It doesn't matter if you just got hit (unless of course you died) because you will be doing so much damage with a visceral (critical) that you will always gain all of your health back because of the rallying mechanic. Also, if you have the time to do it, a full heavy attack to a weak spot will always stagger a boss. In the case of pretty much all smaller enemies and hunters (which Father Gascoigne is a hunter, just like you) the back is their weak spot. Some of the other large bosses and enemies have different weak spots, usually in the head or glowing/bandaged arms/legs.
Oh and it's hard to get in the right headspace for this since Elden Ring, Dark Souls, and Demon's Souls are all so much more about timing hits and blocks, but just as lots of people have said before, Bloodborne is an EXTREMELY aggressive game. There are several bosses that have sweeping attacks that punish dodging backwards. Being face to face (or even better, face to butt) with the enemy is usually the best position. With the exception of a few bosses, of course.
Doing awesome love hearing how much you appreciate the best game ever to grace humankind! Father Gascoigne is definitely a hard fight, even as someone who's played through multiple times!

  • @ReeceTatarka
    @ReeceTatarka Před rokem +3

As a lot of people have pointed out, Bloodborne is a game that really wants you to embrace the parry and rally mechanics (rally being the mechanic where you have that window to get your health back when attacking). In Elden Ring parrying wasn't emphasized and had kind of been replaced by guard counters. Which is one of the many ways Elden Ring was made a bit more accessible to newer players. Also, tip: The Great Bridge where you fought the Cleric Beast is great for farming blood vials early game. Start at the lamp and murder the ogre, the crows, and the werewolves, and rinse and repeat. But there's good news! In the mid to late game you get so many blood echoes from killing enemies that you can buy a shit ton of blood vials at once and never have to worry about farming again.

The music box! Of course it has a purpose. Big brain moment right there Mr. Mati.🤯 I appreciate ER so much more now that I see how we have to run all the way back to boss fight every time we die in BB. Also I miss how “user-friendly” ER was back then when we have to hoard blood vials in BB now.🤣 Wow you really worked the parry magic there during the winning round - that sooooo satisfying to watch!👊 A 3D map for BB you say? My brain would be fried!😵‍💫 Amazing episode as always - I feel like you’re the only one that can make the dark & gloomy BB world so bright & fun.🥳

Love watching new player's playthroughs of Bloodborne, earned a new sub easily! Papa Guacamole is such a good first (non-optional) boss, but yeah farming vials if you mess up is never fun. It's a rite of passage for new players though, you earned that win! If you didn't get what the fight was teaching you, the strong forward momentum the boss has is supposed to be teaching you NOT to back off in fights, it's teaching you to dodge forward THROUGH attacks and be aggressive. It doesn't matter if you get hit, if you don't die you can regain some or all of it back. This game definitely rewards being very aggressive, but you gotta know when to pump the brakes, e.g. stamina management so you can dodge the enemy's retaliation. Can't wait for the late game, and the DLC if you have it!

I’ve genuinely never been more excited for a series. Watching someone experience Bloodborne for the first time is truly a magical experience. I said this in one of my longer comments on your last Elden Ring video but you ABSOLUTELY MUST do the DLC…
It’s for higher level characters tho so don’t jump into it as soon as you’re able to.
And believe me the music gets even better…

I plan to beat Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3 at some point because I absolutely love Elden Ring. Anyways, good stuff man. Keep em comin and I'll keep watchin.

Damn good job with Father G! You were starting to get those parries off pretty reliably. Such a sad story with him and his family. Can't WAIT for you to get deeper into Yharnam!
And yeah, the blood vial farming is rather jarring when you first start. The use of blood vials specifically is amazing when considered in the overall story of the game, but I personally think it's a weak point of the game mechanically. If I may make a suggestion for early game, if you're not feeling up to farming at any point along the way it can be handy to keep a few of the lower tier cold blood dews on hand for on-demand blood echoes to quickly re-up on blood vials. Though they're a limited resource and are generally useful, so entirely up to you!

PAPA G! My second favorite fight in this game - and my favorite for MOST of my first run until I reached the DLC. Right off the bat, his intro is SO chilling. This was the boss that taught me as a fresh new Fromsoft player how good Soulsborne was and why. I died 50 times trying to beat him for the first time and I have zero regrets. That initial victory was EXHILARATING. Then the actual lore surrounding him skewered me right through the heart and made me actually cry. I was SO ready to take on the rest of the game after that!
...Anyhow, I ramble. Well done, good Hunter!

He took me ages to beat the first time but he is also the boss that helped me to finally understand the souls game formula, now all these years later I'd say I'm a pretty good souls game player now :). Amazing. Great job with Father G. By the way, be sure to transform your weapon regularly as you are doing attack combos, since transformation attacks do quite a bit of bonus damage. Also, doing charged attacks behind the enemies is incredibly useful. The early game can be a bit rough with healing if you get stuck, because enemies do not drop much echoes to buy them quickly. But anyway, the further you go, the better to remember to quickly farm some enemies for echoes with which you then buy blood vials instead of farming them from drops (that is only a bonus and for making sure you can reclaim some healing so you do not have to go back to the dream/bonfire to reset them). There are a couple of cool farming spots (and one particular chalice dungeon, but frankly for a first play through I do not recommend it, since it does spoil the experience a bit). You could later, once you get Pthumeru Chalice, do the main Chalice Dungeons, they may not be the best, but it is more BB, so :D And you can get some sick weapon gems from them.
You have lots of potential and you are quick to get hang of things in BB, so I think you should be fine in BB :D
You are playing it exactly like it should be player, being aggressive and all. Your parrying is pretty good, obviously just wait for those attacks more so you do not waste bullets. Something you should really be doing is to use blood bullets. There is a button that lets you trade health for bullets instead of using your current bullets. As for parrying, you always have to come really close for it to work. If you are further away, it will not register the riposte (this is a great strat for SL1/BL4 runs where Visceral damage is not very good). For higher Visceral damage, you level Dexterity.
Am really enjoying this BB play through of yours! Keep it up and good luck! :)

  • @Eric-vv9bk

So peoples main complaint about bloodborne, (compared to the other fromsoft games) is the grind for healing items. Personally I don’t mind farming, so here’s my preferred spots for grinding if you need them in the future:
Bloodvials: from the central yharnam lamp. Go down to the left where the 2 big trolls are. Kill them both, reset the area. They are almost guaranteed to drop 2 vials each, and sometimes drop 4 each.
If you ever need to grind bullets, the 2 best areas are (and you haven’t gotten to these areas yet so don’t worry): the area right before the hemwick lane lamp, and the elevator to the right of the cathedral ward lamp leads up to a good area as well.
    Enjoying the series so far!

just a quick tip, a fully charged attack from the rear will stagger an enemy, making them a prime material to a visceral attack. also, if you are going to try using viscerals. ill tell you now. leveling dexterity will up your visceral attack damage

I'm glad you've become more attentive to Miyazaki's games. Talk to everyone and listen carefully to them. You figured out almost everything from the first playthrough about the Gascoin family (hopefully this time, no clues on the internet)
dive into the worlds of Miyazaki, look for answers in them, and most importantly - find them in the most unexpected places. Gathering history in your head bit by bit... As Miyazaki does, no one else does.
I'll be happy to see how you will pass the First Dark Souls and Sekiro.
The first Dark Souls has the most amazing level design.

    A few non-spoilery things:
    1. Buy the hand lantern from the messengers. Works better than a torch.
    2. There is a second messenger bath on the hill above the one you use. You can spend insight there. After beating a human shaped boss, you can usually buy their clothes. You don’t want your insight to get too high. It makes things harder… and weirder.
    3. If you’re interested in the lore, Vaatividya is the best source. His “Prepare to Cry” video about Father Gascoigne is fantastic. Bloodborne is deep and tragic.

You're absolutely right about the Gascoigne fight, Mati. The combination of the setting, music, backstory and lore make it the perfect boss fight.
Werewolves also give you good blood vials. Later in the game it's better to just buy them with echoes though, I found.
Now off to Cathedral Ward, which branches off to so many areas. After you beat the game there are a couple of really cool maps of the layout of Bloodborne worth checking out. And belive it or not, Dark Souls 1 is even more interconnected than this!
