About the game:
Bloodborne is a 2015 action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 4. Bloodborne follows the player's character, a Hunter, through the decrepit Gothic, Victorian-era-inspired city of Yharnam, whose inhabitants are afflicted with a blood-borne disease. Attempting to find the source of the plague, the player's character unravels the city's mysteries while fighting beasts and cosmic beings.
The game is played from a third-person perspective. Players control a customizable protagonist, and the gameplay is focused on strategic weapons-based combat and exploration. Players battle varied enemies while using items such as swords and firearms, exploring different locations, interacting with non-player characters, and unravelling the city's mysteries. Bloodborne began development in 2012 under the working title of Project Beast. Bearing many similarities to the Souls series of games by the same developer and director, Bloodborne was inspired by the literary works of authors H. P. Lovecraft and Bram Stoker and the architectural design of real-world locations in countries such as Romania, the Czech Republic and Scotland.
Bloodborne was released in March 2015 and received critical acclaim, with praise directed at its gameplay, particularly its high difficulty level, atmosphere, sound design, Lovecraftian themes, and interconnected world design. Some criticism was directed at its technical performance at launch, which was improved with post-release updates. An expansion adding additional content, The Old Hunters, was released in November 2015. By the end of 2015, the game had sold over two million copies worldwide. Bloodborne won several awards and has been cited as one of the greatest video games ever made. side note: (main damage comes from leveling weapons early to late game, extra damage mid to late game comes from skill and strength, and the real difference maker late game is blood gems.)
100% correct about all of it. However, the best Blood Gems are the Cursed ones down in the Chalice Dungeons, I farm the 25% Physical Cursed Radials, Triangles, and Waning(Crescent) Gems from a few False Glyphs, very easy farms just and you can do it as early as after beating Blood Starved Beast in Old Yarnham. Just beat the first two layers of the first Chalice Dungeon and that opens up most False Glyphs, I think all 3 of the mains ones I use are open after that. I usually start farming those gems and farming for good Caryll Runes once my weapon is +6, which I always do that early by going to Hemwick and the Hypogean Gaol before Doing Vicar Amelia and Forbidden Woods. Early Blood Stone Chunks can be gotten from DLC and Cainhurst Castle, enough to get to +8 if you need it, I just run through, grab the Chunks and leave, but yeah the Farm can he Done at +6, theres also a Glyph for farming Chunks and Blood Rocks that can be done at that time if you want and have a +10 Maxed out weapon and 25% Cursed Physical Gems before entering the Forbidden Woods, but honestly +6 with the Gems is already OP, +10 either the Gems is Overkill lol. Other than that, Yes, the good Gems are late game. Even then the best Physical ones are 18% unless farming the 20% Cursed Gems from the Winter Lanterns right before the Orphan of Kos. Actually, that Blood Stone Chunk/Blood Rock farm I do gives 12 or 13% Physical Gems, no curses, just straight Physical Attack, that's the best ones you'll get before late game and they help make the 25% Cursed farm easier. Anyway hopefully this helps someone new to the game that might stumble across it. May the good blood guide your way fellow Hunters

A note about losing echos: When you die, they will drop around that spot. There is a chance if an enemy is nearby that they will pick them up, in which case instead of you being able to pick them up, you HAVE to kill that enemy to get them back. You can tell when an enemy has your echos when they're eyes are glowing.

Insight make certain places harder but also reveals secrets in the game worth it to use collect and hoard it. also you don't lose it when you die but there is one specific type of enemy that can take it from you with a certain attack. For the full experience I would use them the Madmans knowledge to get as much insight as possible.
Feel free to take all the madman's knowledge you find. You can't lose it (well, sorta).
Blood vials always heal 40%, so if you're at about half health, heal!

The ghost faced dudes in Cathedral Ward are insanely easy to parry. Also if you creep behind an enemy without them noticing and do a charged attack at their back you get a visceral attack. Madman’s knowledge increases your insight. The higher it gets, the harder and weirder the game gets. You can spend insight at the second messenger bath above the one you know.

every weapon in Bloodborne is viable so make sure to experiment with them if you find it cool, also your blood echoes stays in the ground when you die and the closest enemie to spawn is the one to collect them its not necessarily the one that kills you so pay attention to their eyes, if its glowing that one has your echoes.

I also always turn down the sound effects to about 5 and leave the other slides at 10, this goes for every Souls-game pretty much

There are absolutely no spiders in this game, none whatsoever so don't worry
Mati, you should try parrying a little more. Try practising on standard enemies - see if you can bait an attack where they flail wildly multiple hits (ordinary villagers and the ‘bestial’ ones with a ‘saw’ do this).
Or the big dudes with a brick or tree trunk, like the one who lit the bridge-ball on fire - they lift their weapon and do a charge attack, which has a large parry window!
Hell, the dogs will automatically trip if you shoot them! The gun can be so useful :)
Regarding upgrading your weapon: 100% YES! Upgrading is more vital than leveling your stats, and picking your weapon comes down to your preferred moveset - they can all be viable for the entire game, so go nuts with the upgrades! I personally stick to Vitality/Endurance leveling and just upgrade a starting weapon lol.
Lorewise, I always interpreted the Madman’s Knowledge as being close to something ‘man’ / mortals shouldn’t see - as if the corpse you pick it up from went (slightly) insane before his passing, maybe because of something nearby. This kinda fits with the ‘Souls’ you pick up in Dark Souls (like Runes in ER) - the bigger amount of souls, the more dangerous the area you got it from, and the name reflected this (Soul of a lost undead / Soul of a brave warrior / Soul of a hero etc)

You can keep on attacking the enemies even though they are dead...you will still help regain your health

The mad mans knowledge can be used in a bath back area to.buy items as well. Also the higher the insight allows you to see more invisible things. AND high insight is a problem with frenzy

Really loving this series. Makes me feel like I'm reliving my first playthrough all over again. Can confirm though I spent alot more time just standing and staring at the scenery. The game is still so beautiful to me even after playing it like 10 times.

@@matiasgago oh bud real quick, glowing eyes implies that mob has your echoes and I repeat if a path seems incredibly hard... you're not ready for it. Old Yharnam is your path to walk. Cheers! Pretty certain you'd figure this out eventually, however my first time playing a FromSoft game (which was Bloodborne) I was headstrong and stubborn... don't be like me.

About insight: The game changes based on your insight. Some bosses are slightly harder with more insight, some enemies appear that wouldn't otherwise, and certain secrets that would normally be revealed by the games plot anyway can be revealed early by having more insight, but it also increases your frenzy gain, so if you go up against an enemy that builds frenzy, and you have a lot of insight, your gonna have bad time. Good news is, even if you have a lot of insight, you can get rid of it by spending it at the insight shop in the hunters dream. :) You only require the first insight to level up, no other insight is required, but you will naturally gain insight through playing the game anyway as you gain insight upon discovering new areas and discovering and defeating bosses.

28:50 Actually, weirdly it is the way back to the bridge where you fought cleric beast. That closed door for some reason got sealed by the developers, but people have proven that one leads to the other by dropping coins on one side and then coming here and you can see their glow from under the door. Its strange considering the game is so inter connected and this would make for a cool shortcut back to central yharnam, no ones ever figured out why it was cut.
if i remember correctly, it's because of hardware limitations, it was first intended to be a shortcut, but loading that part of central yharnam and cathedral ward at the same was putting to much stress on the ps4... so they ended up closing that door :/
If you find any "blood cocktails" you can throw them near the boss in Old Yharnam to distract it for a couple seconds.

Whilst the window is open for you to regain health by hitting enemies, even after they're dead, if you're quick enough you can still regain health. Just keeping slashing! You're also too conservative with your blood vials, never leave your health partially emplty.

@@matiasgago Oh good! Now is the time to try them out cause it is a big commitment to get a weapon to max level. There is only one mat available in the base game for the final upgrade. So definitely try out each weapon for awhile when you come across them👍

If you want the true Bloodborne expereince keep using the Madman's Knowledge when you find them. The more Insight you gain, the more bizarre the world becomes. Once you reach 40 Insight your eyes will be opened and you'll gain a Greater understanding of what is happening in Yharnam. When that happens head back outside Oedon Chapel and look up to the cosmos.

Hey Mati, discovered your channel a few days ago and I'm really enjoying your BB playthrough, so nostalgic! If you would like a helpful tip about parrying: pay attention to the enemy's hand as they attack. First, it moves back to wind up for the attack, then it moves forward. The bullet has to hit them on the second part when the hand is already moving forward, the wind-up doesn't count. Hope that helps!
PS: I recommend picking up that item in the little courtyard outside Oedon Chapel that you ran past several times, it's really cool trust me ;)

The dudes in white in cathedral ward are perfect for practicing parries, you can parry them almost any time during their attack animations. The ones with masks and canes btw, not the big ones with axes.

If you read another by HP Lovecraft This game has taken his idea and put it into this game. Look up Cthulhu Mythos and then pay careful attention to the environment and see the similarity
Insight is basically currency. There is another bath that takes insight for trade and eventually has some really good stuff. Having a lot of insight makes the game harder so you can do that as well.

i found out some enemies later in the game can take your madmans knowledge if you use it. so i'd save them for when you need to buy stuff. it's like a leech type enemy that gives you the SuCk and sucks like 1-3 of your knowledge points

Hi! I’ve been watching you since you uploaded your Malenia video. I don’t know if anyone has said this; But, that thing you saw, crawling around, in the beginning of Old Yharnam, that fell down that little side area. It’s a Wandering Madness.
They’re like the white Dung Beetles from Elden Ring. They drop upgrade materials. They disappear after a short time, so make sure to nab them! It’ll help you a ton (-: I’m glad you’re liking Bloodborne! It’s still my favorite! There’s multiple ways to that particular one you saw!
There was another right by that wrecking ball church giant. He went poof. It makes late game easier, cuz they frequently drop the rarer, higher upgrade stones. Some drop Bloodgems. Those aren’t necessary, but can be used for improved damage, among other things. Happy hunting pal!

you can parry the troll guys by shooting them when their attack is coming down. so far you've been shooting too early, just as the attack is starting which is why it's not working.

1:50 as you progress trough the game stages of night change, world will also change color and have "more stuff" to see, the more insight you got
2:04 you chose to smash the red broch and get gem, could have brought it to the kid
7:00 come here with more insight for a little surprise
11:42 nearby is something cool, look around. also come here with more insight
17:11 insight affects a lot of things, without going too deep... keep it around 30, save up the rest.
22:23 you have heard a BB equivalent to a scarab bug. catch and kill them. they give upgrade material for weapons (also one on 27:51)

One thing, I definitely wouldn’t level my gun until you get your cleaver to a high level. Also that little thing moving when you got to old yahrnm was a skuttler which gives you blood shards if you kill so Always always kill those guys

If you run out of insight I believe the doll goes back just a doll and not be able to level up. Fire paper is nice use an oil urn first then fire paper. Another good paper is bolt

@@matiasgago How blind are you wanting to go through this play through? If there’s an item that can assist in an upcoming boss do you want the tip, or would you prefer taking your chances without it? For example: in E.Ring I could have told you about buying Margit’s Shackle from Patches, or the Purifying Crystal Tear which would have greatly helped your fight against Mohg, Lord of Blood. I can can give you hints without spoiling the boss if you want.
You can buy a latern from hunters dream so you can unequip the torch If needed

I love a good exploration video after the boss fighting ones.🤩 God I’m so addicted to BB right now - terrified, but addicted. I feel like our experiences of BB differ a lot. By repeatedly dying & reclaiming those blood echoes, before I know it, I’m level 55 now at Boss #7🤣 (Lot of fun awaits ahead, Mati). I checked, in average, we’re supposed to complete the 1st play-through at 75. Not that I’m complaining, being this OP’d definitely helps - I sweated less profusely now, like I’ve turned on the easy mode.😆 Also, when we level up, I think the same enemy will develop new skills (like those white-face dudes will have light balls flying out of their lanterns, chasing us). Or, it could be the madman knowledge thing - like you said, I did use every one of those the moment I got them - maybe I know a bit too much now?😵 Thanks for another great one.♥️

You should go back to Yharnam and kill the pig in the tunnel again. You'll know why once you do.
By far my favorite weapon (and one of the best) is Ludwig's Holy Greatsword, but you wont find that for a few more episodes. The threaded cane kind of sucks. Hunter axe is a fucking workhorse, very good first playthrough weapon. You can finish the game with any weapon though.

I loved this exploration style video, it’s always just such a joy to watch you experience these games naturally as you go along! It’s good to see that you’ve been trying to explore as much as possible and look behind every corner or box because this game is just filled with secrets! There is definitely still more to explore in Cathedral Ward, but I think you’ll naturally come across them as you progress! Oh and by the way in Old Yharnam the hunter who is shooting you with the machine gun is absolutely brutal and there is a secret side path you can take to avoid a lot of his line of fire and you actually looked right down at it in this video. Successfully parrying once every hour aint bad as practice. You’ll get the hang of it quicker than you think as long as you’re actually trying and not spamming. Glad you’re having fun, can’t wait till it goes mad

Insight reduces frenzy resistance and reduces beasthood stats. Not that important for early game, but later on can definitely make the game a bit difficult in areas. Insight, depending on the amount in the top left corner, can also alter enemies in the game. Good luck out there!

That Dead End with the chest was supposed to be an alternate entrance to the Cathedral Ward that opens up after killing the Cleric Beast. The door, if it opened, would take you to the bridge that the Cleric Beast boss spawns.

Oh, use more blood vials. 🤣 The health you get back through the "rally" mechanic (healing by attacking after you've been hit) helps but it doesn't really heal you enough to be an efficient replacement for blood vials. So, heal, dude... ...or you'll see this a lot more often.

Use the cathedral ward guys to practice your parries it will make the world enemies and humanoid bosses a little easier
