- Cheaply and easily Blackout your own car emblem/ logo using these two simple methods. I used #Plastidip for the 3D logos and vinyl decals for the Ford logos. These examples are preformed on the 2021 Ford Explorer with the sports appearance package. The Plastidip works amazing and peals off leaving no residue behind. It is the easiest, safest and best way to #blackout any logo. If you are looking for deleting chrome, look no further. The Vinyl decal overlays are also a cheap and effective way to blackout logos that cannot be plastidipped. Let me know how it goes when you try this #easy car hack yourself!

Tips: put can in hot water for 15-20’. That thins the Plastic Dip and prevents any orange peel look. Use 4-5 coats.
What happens when I wash and dry it? I can imagine pulling the plastic dip off.
@@mikeday9111 I run mine through car washes with no problem.
@@mikeday9111I like to use the DIY car wash and I clean them but I'm not blasting high pressure on them for a long time.
DYC has a new product, hyperdip, that sprays much smoother. Used it on emblems and the chrome window molding and it had zero texture and was smooth as paint.
@@jasonberger3227 nice!
One of the best ones yet. So well covered. Thanks.
My guy! The exact SUV that I came for and you even saved me a search for the emblems!
Wow I would have never tried this but now it looks easy! Thanks for the tip!
Super easy to do! Give it a go
@@BMSculptures also super fun to do, and peeling away from the areas that are not targeted is very ASMR.
BRO!!!! You have solved my life problems!!! I’ve always wanted to customize my decal to black - but it costs $125 for each one 😑 and I’m like “nope! I’m going to do what you did here!!” Thank you for the hack!!
Something else that I like with the gray, blackout look is red brake calipers. I have a Tundra TRD Pro in gray/blackout with red factory accents and Fox suspension but not the red calipers. We fixed that. You can opt to have them powder coated but I used brake paint. Clean them thoroughly with brake cleaner first and tape everything. It takes much longer preparing than it does painting. If the paint comes off in the future I'll have them powder coated.
Great video and explanation , thanks very much
I have done this more than just a few times. When cleaning, I always start with Dawn dish washing soap, and the reason for this, is because it cuts through the wax on your car, leaving just the clear coat, which is not quite as smooth as the wax. After the area has been thoroughly rinsed, then I spray it with 90% alcohol to remove any residue, and then, finally, I apply the Plasti-Dip. Wait a day or two before rewaxing the painted surfaces, and you're done.
Be aware that denatured alcohol does not leave residue like rubbing alcohol does.
I’ll definitely have to try this
Great video. Exactly what I was looking for. I have the same model and color. Plan to do the same
This was awesome, thanks for showing us this!
Glad you enjoyed it! Super easy hack
Sweet video. Thanks for sharing
Just did mine and it came out flawlessly. Very easy to plastic dip your emblem. No worry about overspraying your car because they can be easily peel off.
How much is a can ?
Great video. Looks good. 👍
Great job still nervous about doing this on mine
After watching your video I'm definitely going to try it on my car next week have a Mazda 3 hatchback and the way you described it in the video made it seem so easily if you follow your steps thank you so much
Love your videos! so inspiring. I especially love this one. My wife really wanted her maroon jeep to have the blacked out stuff but we couldnt get it. I am totally going to try this!
how did it go
Freakin awesome thank you. I purchased a 2019 Nissan frontier and it has black wheels but chrome emblems. I'm definitely going to try this. I didn't even realize plasicdip is made for this. I would have used tape and exacto knife..
Worked like a charm!!! And, saved me several hundred dollars. I love the “night” look of my car emblems.
If you can edit your video, maybe mention to not use anything sharp when pealing off the excess. Even using tweezers can scratch existing paint.
Thanks again for the excellent tutorial!
Yep, I've seen other videos where they just use a toothpick very lightly to guide the plastidip when pulling it off the emblems.
I used Plasti- Dip on the Ford emblems and it worked just fine
Great video. Thanks!
Well I'll be dipped! LOL.. I was looking how to black out the FORD ovals on my F150 and came across this. I think that this would work on my front fender badges.. And maybe I can do something similar on the Ford Oval. Thanks man !!
Thank you, I have one small part of my Maverick I want to do it to. Now I know.
Pretty slick. Any precautions when washing?
Thanks for this info!
Very informative and easy to understand video. Would this method also work with blacking out plastic chrome accents on the front of the car?
Thank you Blake
This is awesome! Would love a rim tutorial with this!!! Can we use this trick on the chrome trim as well?
I would love to see how to professionally do my rims PLEASE!!!!!! Love the video Blake!! Finally some car stuff haha I’m a big car guy! Really nice truck BTW!!
haha I knew it! I had a feeling you were a car guy. I most likely won't be doing rims anytime soon but im sure there are other videos out there. It is the exact same process, you just need to use plastic to mask off your brakes.
Great job
Was unsure until watching this! Thank you. Do you have any recommendations for tape on the vehicle?
Very cool!
This is great info! Will it need to be re done or touched up after a few car washes?
Nice video, what is the duration the spray stay, how often do you need to reapply?
I got a 2022 Explorer XLT Sport Appearance package in white for Christmas, I also want to do the same exact thing as well. Thanks for sharing I will certainly be using your video to customize my Explorer. Any advice on how to paint my door handles black as well??
Wow ! I am impressed - seems like a game changer . Thanks for sharing .
I have a question please, is this peel able paint and does it come off if the vehicle is washed / jet sprayed ?
How did you find the right size when printing it out on the cricket ? Do you have a link to the file ?
Cheers mate 😎👌
That is nice how you have the exact size for the front emblem. I been trying to find the correct aize for my 2019 ninja 400 emblems. But i am terrible uaing the cricut.
Woukd plastidip work for blacking out chrome window trim and outer portion of a front grille? Or best only used on flat surfaces for badges etc?
Will this technique also work on a bull bar? It's a new one fresh out the box
Just remember that some manufacturer's front logo badges have sensors behind them for pre-crash and smart cruise control. Painting them may affect how the sensors work and could void warranty. I had problems with these sensors on my vehicle which had everyone scratching their heads until a spider nest was found behind the logo badge. Mud and ice can also affect how these sensors work.
what car was it?
@@kianr2200 Lexus UX
Hi thanks for the video. Just wanna ask if the 2022 XLT sport appearance package rear valance panel will fit on 2022 XLT non sport package but the rear valance is removable. So I’m just wandering if it’s fit. I’ve tried the platinum version it doent fit
Bro subbed. Thanks so much
Thanks for the sub!
So were the dodge rims at the start also plasti-dipped?
Can you plazi paint the stainless steel trim around windows?
How does it stick to the emblem but not the car? Looks great
AWESOME.
Love this, don’t want to use compound and fish wire and other junk. Nice
Yep. Plastidip is very cool. Only thing you have to be sure about is putting it on thick enough so you can peel it. Too thin and it is hard to peel without tearing.
How does it not rip off the letters when pulling off the excess on the paint? Do you score with a razor?
Where did you get the vector cut files for the emblems? I have a nice plotter but would need those proportionate logo files to cut.....
Awesome video. Thanks. Do you don't need cut or trim the letters or it just stay in the letters?
Would this stuff work on the grill of the car??
Man í need blackout front badge on my new suzuki Jimny .. wonder if í can sprey it. Or take it off and sprey it
Hi - how do u take this off if need to?
This is definitely gonna☝️🤣 test your patients!!!!
Would I also be able to do this on chrome front grille? Specifically the 1st gen Tundra just 3 big chrome slats
Lol the hack to shake the paint with your reciprocal saw lol! And the looks of it. Ok back to the video with clean thoughts.
Thanks for you help. I don't like all the chrome on my tundra. Truck is black and too much chrome
Did you need to trim around the letters before peeling it off?
How would it hold up doing off roading if the wheels were sprayed
You can peel of the plasti dip around the logo, because there is an air gap from the 3m tape. You didn't clean the logos well enough, so you got these spots. Just take a look at how car painter clean the surface. Also, use a decent spray cap and learn how to spray with a can. You were way to close and started the spraying in the middle of the logo. Tape of WAY more area and spray in longer, but smoother strokes. All reasons, why you got so much orange peel. I don't want to be super harsh, but the result is really bad IMHO.
Do you have a video of how you did the wheels??
Thanks…great video. Are the rims a similar technique? Would love to do mine. Thanks again…
I suspect that the car emblems are applied with double-sided foam tape. The thickness of the foam tape means the emblems actually sit above the surface of the car. When you spray the whole area, the plasti-dip on the emblems isn't attached to the plasti-dip on the paint, so you can just peel that off and the emblems stay painted.
Can I use this technique to blackout my chrome window sils?? I have a 2018 Audi A4. If I did would it last pretty good? I started vinyl today but looks shitty.
Plasti dip vs vinyl wrap on trim pros and cons? Which is better?
can you do an emblem that have sensors behind them? i wanna remove mine but cant. so i would like them blacked out with how you did that ford logo
Thank you for showing me how. Unfortunately, Bocadecals does not have Ecosport emblems. That blows
Very cool.
Thanks Tim!

Welcome BM
Thank you for sharing🙂
Welcome!
What is best printer and software for vinyl printing?
Does it work on vinyl wrap as well ?
How long will the plastidip stay on for?
Will it come off if the sun is hitting directly for a few hours?
Any washing considerations?
He said he’s gonna show me how to “professionally” black out badges but he’s not a “professional.” The good news is I know how to do this. I buy vehicles with blacked out badges from the factory.
What kind of alcohol did you use? Homemade?
I’m doing my Chrysler 300 tomorrow after seeing this lol
You did it?
Thank you! So much! I just subscribed! I told my friend, sister, sisters boyfriend, my mom and my neighbors to subscribe!
Do you have anything to fully black out the ford emblem?
how long does it last with car washing etc?
I’d like to do my front grill on my tundra, but the fake chrome is bubbling. Should I remove it? If so, have you done that before?
Followed video to a T and the only thing that made it a failure was how THICK it actually needs to be. I did what I would consider 3 good coats (thinking more like paint) and the extra was so thin I couldn't get a lot of it off without rolling it hard with my finger and it tore a lot off of the lettering in the process. Be sure to do the equivalent of like 6 or 7 coats of paint! Or maybe just heavier coats in general. It is a MAJOR pain in the butt to peel off thin Plastidip!
What would you want to turn nice shinny chrome to black?
What if there is already paint on the emblem and it’s not plasti dip what sandpaper I use on the ford emblem
So I can use either can?
does it come off when washing the car?
Where can I get the image to cut myself? I have a ford escape 2019
can plastidip holds on chrome parts?
It kinda works
Very cool. Do you sell the stickers that go over the Ford emblems? I have 2 2017 Explorers. I would like to do this to them.
I wonder if this will work the same if the car is painted in a Matte Finish? Will the plastidip still peel right off...or ruin the matte paint?
it’ll still peel right off
💯❤️🥰🥰🥰 thank you..... I’m thinking of changing my Ford Explorer hood emblem letters to hot pink or dark pink on my magnetic grey edition.... and this idea just might do the trick.
Btw....What’s your opinion on my color selection? Pink or Black against magnetic grey??
Hey Maisha, the Ford emblem is super easy to do! I cant help you on Pink vs Black, its your decision and style preference!
@@BMSculptures 🥰🥰💯 thanks for your response. I’ll let you know when I finally have a chance to do it
Thats cool paint Blake could paint the car a different colour each week . :)
haha im sure my wife would love that.
Can I ask why you didn’t do it to the exhaust?
I love how he covers the license plate the second time it shows up but not the first time you see it.
Ooops!
What about the exhaust tips?
So this could be done to fully chrome delete a Model 3? The prices and time pros are asking are ridiculous.
Anyone know if this would work as a masking before doing raptor liner?
Hold the phone, the rims are plasti dipped as well??? Please confirm or deny lol
Can I just use a heat gun to speed dry time? 🤔
