This video helped me understand what needs to be done. If we don't use our sick leave, we will LOSE the extra pay.
If for an Example You have 24:00 hours for Fiscal Year 2023-2024 (Expires on June 30, 2024}. Folks, you still have time to submit your paid sick leave if you haven't done so yet. Since we have NOT submitted the Regular Time sheets for June 16 - 30, 2024. You can easily go into your IHSS Portal. Sign in and go to your Menu bar and click on "Claim sick leave entry". Then select your Recipient Name. The screen will show the total sick leave available to you. Select the Calendar date (example: 06/24/24 then add the # of Hours: 4, then "ADD Date" repeat using the next Calendar date, select # of hours 4, then "ADD Date" repeat by ADD Date: # of Hours: 4.). keep adding the date and hours to make up the Total of 24 Hours. Once you hit Continue or Next, it will say a Final message that you Agree to inform your Recipient in advance about your sick leave, click a check mark then SUBMIT. Message will say "Your Sick Leave claim for June 16, 2024 - June 30,2024 has been submitted for Payment, then click "OK". You are now in the system to receive your sick leave pay :). If you had signed up for Direct Deposit, that's where your extra pay check will be. I hope this helps! Good Luck guys

Hey Guys, I know a lot of us were having issues with claiming paid sick leave and how to claim them and not to mention a lot of us didn't know we had hours of sick leave to claim until recently I just found out myself. I was frustrated at first b/c there was no simple explanation. So, I figured it out. Since we have until June 30th to submit our unclaimed hours of sick leave. DISCLAIMER: This is only my opinion/what made sense and what worked for me since IHSS couldn’t explain what most of us are asking. =) Do what you will - what you do is your choice. Going forward this is what I did.
This should not affect your regular hours only thing is you have to make space for your sick hours. So, for instance (b/c this worked for me) instead of using my regular available hours (for the 2nd half of the month) for June 16th, 17th and the 18th. I instead used those days to claim my sick leave hours I claimed 8 hours per day for 3 days since my sick leave available hours were only 24 hours in my case and those days had already passed. =). I then submitted those hours, and it went through. No problem. So, by time you read this you'll be able to claim your sick leave under the SICK LEAVE CLAIM TAB and by clicking SICK LEAVE CLAIM ENTRY and submit it early w/o it affecting your regular hours and submit your regular hours as you normally would in this case after the last day of the month (in this case for the month of June). Once I receive payment from my sick leave I'll let you know if it will or has affected my regular available hours or if I have less available hours b/c I claimed those sick hours for the rest of June 2024.
Mind you I'm still going to use my regular available hours I have for the 2nd half of June, and it just add more hours on certain days. Now if anything changes, I will update ASAP! Now if you need further explanation on how to break down your hours, I did this below. Use your hours in place of this example to get an idea. DISCLAIMER: this is just an example these are not my actual hours and only a demonstration of how I did my hours. Like I said if anything changes once, I submit my regular hours after June 30th, I’ll let you guys know =). Best of Luck
For Example: I have 140 hours a Month, which is 35 hours a week and 70 hours for 2 weeks.
Normally I would put 5 hours per day for 2 weeks from June 16th to June 30th
(For those 14 or 15 days depending on the month we're in. But this is for June =) )
but since I claimed sick leave for June 16th, 17th and the 18th 3 days' worth of sick leave @ 8 hours per day for the 24 hours of sick leave. I now have 15 hours of regular hours I have to add on into my other days. So, for instance, if I was working 5 regular hours per day as usual, I can add 1 hour and a half or just one hour or 2 hours on top of those 5-hour days as long as they add up 70 hours in total for those 2 weeks excluding the sick leave days, I used oxo. So now 70 hours has to fit into June 19th to June 30th since I claimed the 16th, 17th, and 18th of June already for my Sick Leave which was 24 hours sick leave. =)
Remember the Sick Leave was already submitted in fact I did it today and it went through =) at this point it just depends how much sick leave you have, and I believe it has to be in the same row/same week which was still kind of confusing but since SEIU is pushing us to do this before June 30th I just did it back-to-back.
    June 16th - Sick 8hrs
    June 17th - Sick 8hrs
    June 18th - Sick 8hrs
***REMEMBER WHEN YOU SUBMIT YOUR REGULAR HOURS - DO NOT PUT IN YOUR REGULAR HOURS FOR JUNE 16TH ,17TH, 18TH FOR EXAMPLE THOSE WERE USED FOR YOUR SICK DAYS. KEEP THOSE BLANK. OXO =)***
June 19th to June 28th I did 5.5 hours per day - so only 30 minutes was added on top of my 5-hour shift. 5.5 hours times (x) 10 days is 55 hours
For Both Of These Days (below)
    June 29th - 7.5 hours per day
June 30th - 7.5 hours per day - so only 2 hours and 30 minutes was added on top of my 5 hour shift 7.5 hours times (x) 2 days is 15 hours.
Which all in all equals 70 hours for those 2 weeks 15 hours plus 55 hours oxo.
If you're asking what if you already worked certain hours on those days remember those can be adjusted b/c we still have to claim those sick hour hours regardless or by June 30th they are gone. They don't roll-over and you're missing out on a few hundred dollars. SEIU is very adamant about us providers using/claiming our sick leave since it'll be gone soon, and they fought hard for it. Best of Luck =).
7/1/24 - Update: as promised after submitting my hours today for the 2nd half June. All was good. I was able to submit my regular hours I had left over. No problem =) As of July 1st, 2024, all providers now have 40 hours of sick time available to use anytime.

    Say if I normally work 7 hours/day, 7 days/week, total of 49 hours.
I am sick on Wednesday and in order to meet my recipients needs I work 8 hours x 6 days = 48 hours.
It seems accurate to submit for 7 hours sick paid leave that Wed, plus the 48 hours across the other 6 days. So is that how I do it?

But if you file taxes and want more of a return, I’d say pay into State or Federal or both. You may get a return, given you don’t have and prior tax issues. If you qualify for CTC’s and/or other exemptions that can give you money back, then that’s all you may get back from your return. But if you do a have dependents and pay into State and Federal or both, you may get EITC and CTC. My tax lady says for me to always pay at into State and Federal for my max refund for my situation with dependents and my live in recipient. Hope that helps. Buena Suerte !!
