People who want a malinois should watch this. You can't change his nature. Haz is just teaching him a productive way to use that attitude, but that doesn't change his nature.
I think people see trainers with German Shepherds and Malinois in perfect obedience and they think they're just like any other pet dog breed.

      @Zeleosa Před 2 lety +9

This is what I was afraid of when we got a mal for a family dog/pet. But our girl is 5 months old now and will bring all her favourite toys to the couch and lay in my lap and chew on them. I can touch her, pet her, tug on the toys, and there's no guarding whatso ever. The only time she growls at us is during tug and only if a tooth is loose and hurting her. Otherwise she's a big suck. It's all about training them properly.

@@Zeleosa You're exactly right. And though I think every dog breed needs and deserves good training, working breeds have a much lower tolerance for bad training.
You've obviously done a good job with your girl.

Oh yeah, I did a lot home work before I pull the shot. Obedience obedience obedience, and this is not a dog you just let’s him run around dog park by itself and sit on your ass talk with other people, you have to physically engage in the play, “work” the dog, my guy is about 9 months old, smart, and goofy, so much fun 😂😂

Yes, but the are so few movies about it... and plenty of "super maly" tricks.
You don't see hour of training on internet, only some short movies o XP trainers.
People do not want to show their problems and struggle with their dogs.
The key is to have a good trainer... if it's your first mal.
Great dogs... if you want to train with it... not a couch dog.

When the object drive grows and trading food doesn't work any more, Robert Cabral gave me a handy tip via a YT video. I Bought two of the exact same tugs, both brand new, and I started training tug with my adult adopted malinois, if he takes one tug from you, leave it to him and quickly pull out the other tug and start taunting him. This way the second tug is more exciting because you are holding and moving it. This way he releases quickly just as trading with the food, except you traded him for another super fun tug that is immediately playing with him. Hope this tip helps someone, it helped me alot because my dog didn't play tug and really didnt let go when I got him as a 3.5 y old malinois mix from the pound.

Many old trainers call that “two hoses”. They used two pieces of old garden hose. They used it for that. And also for things like recall. Throw one hose, let the dog go get it, then show him the other hose. Entice him back to you, and then throw the second one as a reward. Repeat and have fun.

My 9 month is a cross Belgian mal and a Tervuren. Extreme resource guarding! Loves playing tug. Sometimes he won’t relinquish the toy, he has a certain look in his eye and I know it’s pointless saying ‘out’. So I have a tennis ball in my pocket for just that occasion, throw it and he drops the tug or frisbee. Then it’s safe to remove the toys.

When you want to end playtime, allow the dog to “win” and then don’t touch the toy again. Crate him for ten minutes and put the toy away. If the dog continues to search and bark for the toy, simply ignore him. You cannot set the precedent that barking = dog getting what he wants. It seems like you haven’t trained a “break” command, so find that here on YT and start to structure your play sessions and training sessions that way so you can utilize a “break” command after.

I have also found let your animal play & run 1st before training so they can focus more.

I need a video on how to pet a malinois puppy every time he greets me it’s all about chewing my hands I have no issues playing with him but are malinois dogs not meant to be petted?

I do this with my european doberman. He growls like he wants to rip off your arm but in reality he's just having the best time of his life when playing tug

i play fought with my malinois every day, he loved it. I loved it. he knew where the red line was. If he ever marginally crossed it, he'd instantly yield and sit. These dogs love the rough n tumble.

Dutch Shepherds have more intensity. There are lots more bad breedings in dutchies.
