    why doesn't Sony just move to make a smartphone with Sailfish OS officially. Sony is very underrated with Android, it can be said that it is not successful with Android. In my opinion, it is better for Sony to collaborate with Jolla to make a Sailfish smartphone officially. I am sure it can compete with Android and iOS. In my opinion, sailfish OS is better than Android and iOS. Come on Sony and Jolla, make a breakthrough. Sony is a big company and Jolla has a very sophisticated OS. If they join officially, they can definitely produce a smartphone that is more sophisticated than the current smartphone

      @@joppyccom I agree with you, it would be great, but we are not living in a perfect world unfortunately. Even though Sony smartphones sales are small, they for sure could offer dual boot for android + Sailfish OS,
      BUT
      “big guys” from Google would come and intimidate Sony ("no Google Play from us" or "pay more now for our services per device"). This is how it works, it reminds me of BeOS and Hitachi Flora Prius computers story, when Microsoft came and threatened Hitachi. Sony may be afraid of such scenarios

      I think it's also about risks. Android however already have big part of pie of market and most people, if you look around, use phones on Android and iOS. Also Sony price policy is not so attractive for users.And company actually many time has say that phone production will be curtailed in future (That's why Sony leave such big market as Brasil and some countries of South East Asia some time ago).
      But,yeah, third competitor always would be great.

    • @Bohdan_HI-TECH
      @Bohdan_HI-TECH  Před měsícem

      @@alexgut1everything It's even worse, Sony left US market recently (not completely, but new flagships are not available in the USA anymore). Their price policy can't be different either, since they sell few phones and their expenses are high.
      So I don't propose to make Sailfish OS only phones, nobody will buy that of course (unless you have advertising budgets bigger than Microsoft's). But, dual boot can be a solution, customers will not miss android, while they also receive more 'features' from Sony smartphone. But again, Google will not allow that. Sony is not in the position to risk at all

      Sony is for niche market and availability. They only sell to select Asian Market and EU. Their phone are terrific, ip 68 with 3.5mm capable of 24bit/192hz. It's a flagship phone but their budget phone is not good. I can get Samsung S23 for additional 60 bucks (comparing to Sony 10 VI)

      Not so easy to come up with a start up OS. Microsoft can tell you how that went ( windows phone os ) . Unless you have a lot of money to pay the developers to make the apps for your OS. And if Microsoft which basically have a huge budget could not make windows phone os survive...

    Great review!
    I am not sure if one can recommend this phone as a device immune to government surveillance software like Pegasus, though. The software like this use security vulnerabilities in Android and iOS, and the only reason why SailfishOS feels more secure is the lack of proper security audit - so few breaches and CVEs are widely known to be specific to Sailfish OS, not just Linux in general. When Sailfish gets more popular, a situation may happen that it is even easier to crack automatically than a recent Android or iOS version.

    Thank you very much for the nice video. :)
    One thing I'd like to add: Actually I would say the statement about the camera at 10 III isn't fully right. You can have all cameras working, only not at the same time.
    There is a pretty nice fix (a script or a button in the action menu) you can get from different places. The problem is, that if you activate the 3 rear cameras the front one will no longer work.
    Switching back with the script / action menu button will however give you the front camera and one read camera.
    As far as I know it is due to the Blobs provided by Sony.
    I am pretty sure a 120 Hz display wouldnt really benefit you much... do not know what your obsession with that is... 90 Hz is fine, 60 Hz is okay for most especially if you are not that much into gaming. ;)

    • @Bohdan_HI-TECH
      @Bohdan_HI-TECH  Před 11 dny

      You're right, the patch is called "X10III Triple Camera Toggle" on Chum (I found it after I made a video). It works, which is.. nice to have, I guess?
      Speaking of 120 Hz, it impacts UI smoothness a lot. I can't imagine working on macOS without 120 Hz now (never thought before buying new MacBook Pro this would happen). On other systems it makes a difference too: on iOS, android, heck, even on ChromeOS - saw it on Acer 516 GE recently. The more the better, it seems. Maybe it is not noticeable when you mainly use 60 Hz devices, but after I tried a 120 Hz screen, I don't want to look back

    • @ContinuumGaming
      @ContinuumGaming Před 11 dny

      @@Bohdan_HI-TECH If the Sony Xperia 10 III is that "stuttery" for you in comparision to the old one, 120 Hz does not help anything, because than it will not give 120 fps anyway. (or anything higher)
      For 120 Hz to work nicely, you need 120 fps or at least much more than 60 fps to have any kind of difference. You may get 90 fps out of it (there is a nice option to see the fps on the phone for anywhere if you go to Developer Options and than "FPS framecounter display" - I am paraphrasing since I have another language on my phone) but since the display is 60 fps you will not see higher framerates anyway in this case...
      Anway: 120 FPS on a computer (with a 27" or something like that) and a mouse or games is a big difference to a small screen device if you ask me... but hey, if you really think it is very important for you, that's fine. I just think it is much less important on a smartphone than big screens.

    Are normal Linux applications commonly usable on Sailfish? Sailfish seems to use normal Linux stuff like Wayland, RPM, systemd, etc, so it should be possible to package libraries like GTK+. Apparently someone got havoc running on an older version, with some difficulties because of older Wayland versions, so I was wondering if something like that would come up during normal use? Especially if you want to avoid Android ports where Linux versions exist.

    If I didn't get into Ubuntu Touch, I would probably used SailfishOS instead. I've always envied the smoothness of Sailfish UI. It was on par with Android when I tried it on Nexus 5 many years ago. UT has improved a lot since then though, Sailfish is probably still smoother though haven't tried it in a long time and in modern devices. It's kinda sad the UI part isn't open source.
    Which Qt version are they using now anyway? They were stuck with Qt 5.6 for a long time, right? Which makes the smoothness more impressive. Also, what web engine do they use in their browser? UT has a major problem with this because QtWebEngine is always outdated and it's not easy to upgrade to Qt6.

      @@uytin99 Interestingly, Sailfish OS (and Jolla phone) was originally created for a mainstream user, so it is fundamentally different from “Linux smartphones” or “privacy phones” we see today. In 2013 it was believed that there’s a place for alternative mobile OS in the future, and Jolla actually thought they could get a 10% share, for example.
      This is why I think the original team that created the OS (and there were 200-300 people back then, not 20) focused on a user centric and intuitive system. It is only afterwards that Sailfish OS became a niche product for enthusiastic developers

      Aurora OS is an independent fork the Finns sold to russians. It is not connected to Sailfish OS, fortunately. I remember Jolla said that OMP (russians) hasn't made a lot of commits to code when they were partners. So russians were more focused on corporate/government apps and integrating FSB certificates to the browser. Oh, and they also changed system icons 🤣
