    The top end rebuild on our 2009 Yamaha YFZ450R continues here in part two of our three part series. In this video, we start with the top end torn down and now we’re building it back up. John will show you how to position the piston rings correctly and then connecting the piston.
    Once the piston is in place, we’ll install a new cylinder. Our original part was worn, so a new cylinder seemed like the best option. Then, we’ll work up the motor and install the head. That will include setting the cam timing on our YFX450R and getting the chain tensioner in place. Finally, we’ll bolt on the valve cover and replace the spark plug.

    Was wondering when you guys are gonna have a bottom end rebuild video? I have already rebuilt my top end from watching you guys video's! I learned alot from you guys and I plan on rebuilding my old engine completely. No transmission work if it's not needed

    Thank you sir! I bought a brand new OEM cylinder, piston, and rings for my YFZ450 and they don't even tell you which ring is the top or the 2nd! Both are marked exactly the same! Thanks again for clearing that up for me ... much appreciated!

    Anti seize on a spark plug? That goes against every spark plug manufacturer's recommendations and is also not recommended in the Yamaha service manual.

    Did I miss the part where valve lash is checked?? Or is that another charge so it wasn't done for a "top end" service??

    Why no mention of checking of ring gap?

  • @gordonwbell
    @gordonwbell Před 4 lety +3

    How come you didn’t check the ring gap? Also, why does Yamaha ask for the harder chrome ring as the second ring whereas my raptor manual said for it to the top ring?

    • @joshualocklear1099
      @joshualocklear1099 Před 10 měsíci

      Most top end kits come with the rings already gapped and for 2 most of the manuals give out faulty instructions everyone has come to find that out over the years

    Well. I installed my piston rings all wrong. It is still running fine though.

  • @automotivefreak32
    @automotivefreak32 Před 5 lety +1

    If you use a wiseco piston the two top rings swap im guessing because i couldn't fit the dark gray one in the top slot. Anyone else have that issue also???

    Hi good video:-) I have the same ATV some day the wheels blocked but it seems like nothing broke in the motor but I could not crank it there was to much compression. When I look at my Exhaust cam it seems like the tootwheel is turned on the axle when I time the motor the last lobe is more up then before have you seen that before?
    best regards Michael

    • @PartzillaParts
      @PartzillaParts  Před 5 lety

      Never seen it before, but it sounds like a new cam is in order.

    So how long did it actually take to get the cylinder on the piston? I see looks edited and it is never that easy. It would be nice to see it all but for time wise I understand

    • @PartzillaParts
      @PartzillaParts  Před 5 lety

      It varies a bit by how easy everything goes together, it really doesn't take that long though. I don't think we timed it. Maybe 30 - 45 minutes?
