Tombstone Blues
WRITTEN BY: BOB DYLAN
The sweet pretty things are in bed now of course
The city fathers they’re trying to endorse
The reincarnation of Paul Revere’s horse
But the town has no need to be nervous
The ghost of Belle Starr she hands down her wits
To Jezebel the nun she violently knits
A bald wig for Jack the Ripper who sits
At the head of the chamber of commerce
Mama’s in the fact’ry
She ain’t got no shoes
Daddy’s in the alley
He’s lookin’ for the fuse
I’m in the streets
With the tombstone blues
The hysterical bride in the penny arcade
Screaming she moans, “I’ve just been made”
Then sends out for the doctor who pulls down the shade
Says, “My advice is to not let the boys in”
Now the medicine man comes and he shuffles inside
He walks with a swagger and he says to the bride
“Stop all this weeping, swallow your pride
You will not die, it’s not poison”
Mama’s in the fact’ry
She ain’t got no shoes
Daddy’s in the alley
He’s lookin’ for the fuse
I’m in the streets
With the tombstone blues
Well, John the Baptist after torturing a thief
Looks up at his hero the Commander-in-Chief
Saying, “Tell me great hero, but please make it brief
Is there a hole for me to get sick in?”
The Commander-in-Chief answers him while chasing a fly
Saying, “Death to all those who would whimper and cry”
And dropping a barbell he points to the sky
Saying, “The sun’s not yellow it’s chicken”
Mama’s in the fact’ry
She ain’t got no shoes
Daddy’s in the alley
He’s lookin’ for the fuse
I’m in the streets
With the tombstone blues
The king of the Philistines his soldiers to save
Puts jawbones on their tombstones and flatters their graves
Puts the pied pipers in prison and fattens the slaves
Then sends them out to the jungle
Gypsy Davey with a blowtorch he burns out their camps
With his faithful slave Pedro behind him he tramps
With a fantastic collection of stamps
To win friends and influence his uncle
Mama’s in the fact’ry
She ain’t got no shoes
Daddy’s in the alley
He’s lookin’ for the fuse
I’m in the streets
With the tombstone blues
The geometry of innocence flesh on the bone
Causes Galileo’s math book to get thrown
At Delilah who sits worthlessly alone
But the tears on her cheeks are from laughter
Now I wish I could give Brother Bill his great thrill
I would set him in chains at the top of the hill
Then send out for some pillars and Cecil B. DeMille
He could die happily ever after
Mama’s in the fact’ry
She ain’t got no shoes
Daddy’s in the alley
He’s lookin’ for the fuse
I’m in the streets
With the tombstone blues
Where Ma Rainey and Beethoven once unwrapped their bedroll
Tuba players now rehearse around the flagpole
And the National Bank at a profit sells road maps for the soul
To the old folks home and the college
Now I wish I could write you a melody so plain
That could hold you dear lady from going insane
That could ease you and cool you and cease the pain
Of your useless and pointless knowledge
Mama’s in the fact’ry
She ain’t got no shoes
Daddy’s in the alley
He’s lookin’ for the fuse
I’m in the streets
With the tombstone blues

1984 , a magnific year of music.
Mick taylor ❤️
always wanted to say this on you tube that i was there at this concert it was a very hot sunny day. absolutly ram packed near the front no seats, . just standing. i remember being able to see the colour of dylans eyes from and 50 feet back. before dylan came on.There were three other artist on UB40, nick low, and santana. i remember at some point bobs guitar strap came off. very full crowed though i thought i was going to get crushed it was so squashed i remember panicking. very loud the sound was seems alot less so on this vid.i didnt even know clapton or any of the other geusts had come on stage.
Mick Taylor lift it to the skies
All these guys are like the great jazz (bebop) musicians in the 50s and 60s, getting together whenever they could and make some awesome music.
Not quite...
Mick Taylor and Clapton on Guitar is still awesome.
Why wouldnt Clapton look at mick
@@Leo-uc8zv It IS funny...
However, When Mick IS playing his solo, he seems to be looking at Eric.
😶
.
@@Leo-uc8zv Eric does not seem to be fond of Mick... Which is strange, cos Eric was/is his musical héroe since 1965, he always quotes the impact he had on his life, or he bought a ticket to the RAH CREAM 2005 to see the show from the audience
@@pabloperez4063 they also played together with John mayall in 2005 they hugged at the end so he may knows I feel Eric gets jealous a lot he wouldn’t play with Gary Moore that would’ve been awesome
@@Leo-uc8zv 2003. Besides, I am sure They must have jammed many times, cos Eric has been a regular guest with the stones in the 70,s too
Just came from the sky. All stars !
A pure pleasure to “B” watching this!!!
I "C" what you did there!!!
That was a good evening 1984 was so nice
Excellent performance, voice and music!!!
Three of my top ten musicians on stage, wau
The drummer, the bassist and Chrissie Harp....?
@@pabloperez4063 hehehe
When Mick Taylor's the third best lead guitarist in your band.
Santana would be #3 . and its a tie for #1 spot .
And with s bit of luck, we would have Knopfler jamming there too
He is actually #1 on Knocking on Heaven's Door, Blowing in the Wind, and Times are a- Changin from this concert....check 'em out!
@@cathode-kits1894 IDK Santana lit this up!!
Hardly.
Bob just loving' to have Clapton stepping out. Me too.
We missed his announcement, sadly... "I would like to bring on an old friend of mine since 1965, mister Slow hand, who has not even brought his amp
Where Ma Rainey and Beethoven once unwrapped their bedroll. Wow. So many great lines from such a great record. Interestingly enough, I had some of the lyrics wrong for so many decades. Couldn't make 'em out.
They said they'll Clapton was God! Clapton is looking at Dylan like he's God!
Cos Dylan is the boss here
I mean, smoking is really not cool, but seeing Eric Clapton nailing this solo completely laidback while smoking his cigarettes freehanded might be one of the coolest things I have seen this year. I´m a man but even my panties dropped a little bit...
Fantastisk musik from 1984.
Great, great...
Paula Paula Paula
Grande entre los grandes Santana ....Bravo👏👏👏
Cool personified.

I was there. It was my first ever Bob. I cried with for most of it!
It was a great day, Santana was just Awesome, and Bob simply Brilliant, it was was also a very hot Day, remember it as if it was yesterday, I met my wife 3 months later

Thank you!🤍
Excellent performance
from Bob and all!
Great footage too! 🎸👏🏻
It was so great to see you at the premiere yesterday Such a
happy surprise! xo 👏🏻
This is so great :)
Bob is the best
From Bob's sixth record, Highway 61 Revisited. Each song equals this one, that's how good a record it was. I preferred it to the next one, Blonde on Blonde.
And me
This is great, thank you for posting it! 🤗👍🏻💞
Quick!!! Somebody call the fire department- the boys just burned down the house!
(Brought to us by Woodhall- Who else!?😎).
Thank you fretkillrfan
I’m memorizing the words tot his tune to play it at a gig and it’s so impressive he can remember the millions of words he’s written. Lol😅
Go Zimme!
Great version with Clapton and Taylor, should have been recorded for a bootleg release
And Santana
@@pabloperez4063 One of those rare musical moments in time.
Yes, there were 3 blues breakers on stage .. Clapton , Taylor and Colin Allen on drums.
@@cathode-kits1894 I hadn't thought
Thank you for the upload. I was just starting to wonder what Carlos was doing there, and finally he let rip! For some reason I have no memory of having missed this concert at the time. Might have relieved the cultural drought of the mid-80s for me!
Carlos out of his comfort sone
@@linpiao111 Carlos (And any good guitar player ) can make a blues solo like ringing a bell, please.
ThE man can play almost anything...he has played more blues solos than you and me have listened !
@@pabloperez4063 exactly! This guy doesn't seem to realise that Santana were originally called 'The Santana Blues Band,'which is enough said!
great stuff thanks Woolhy ♥♥♥
RAW DOG ! From the great , Highway 61 Revised . . .
ENJOY!
Stones keyboard player Ian Macglan also there.
Faces too!
Nice one
Trop bien
Badass
best guitar up there may be mick taylor
Clapton IS and was his true MASTER and inspiration
Quelle fantastique morceau... Les rigolos d'aujourd'hui devraient s'en inspirer !
🎼⭐️🎶🎸
Bob, Eric and Carlos, what a fantastic trio of musicians on stage! They are historical figures! Is Mick Taylor the one who replaced Brian Jones in the Rolling Stones?
ThE one Who replaced Peter Green in bluesbreakers :+)
what about chrissie?
With Brian Jones gone, Mick was at least on two of their great records, Let It Bleed and Sticky Fingers.

Wouldn't go to sleep for three days
I know Dylan loves Eric too bad George Harrison wasn't there Dylan would have been really jacked up! Love Bob to see him so happy!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🎼🎶🎸
Is this at Wembley stadium? If so I was there, went on to see them in Brussels and Cologne.
so just gotta ask - what did u all think of 'Shadow Kingdom?' Have best weekend!

THEN I CLEARLY HEAR CLAPTON, THEN I HEAR SANTANA..? I'M LIKE WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS..?
"I GOTT'A GET DOWN AND START THIS FUCKING THING OVER AND WATCH THIS CLIP..?
WHAT THE FUCK..? YOU TALK TALK ABOUT A KILLER SONG...
MICK TAYLOR RIPPED THE SHIT OUT'A EVERYONE ON THAT STAGE, HE FUCKING OWNED THEM ALL...

REPLY
WTF is going on with the 5 people who give this a thumbs down? Lol. Do you hate rock and roll? Lol
Is the third guitarist Mick Taylor?
Don't you count Bob??
Great stuff man thanks. Saw that tour in Ireland. Who's the dude in the pink suit?
Greg Sutton
Ian on keyboards?
What concert is this from I’ve seen tons of material in the last three days?
Fantastic!
The PRS guitar Santana is playing here must be a prototype by Paul Reed Smith , because PRS the company didn't start until 1985 .
Brilliant Bob - a man with at least twenty songs for every occasion. 4 thumbs down from Spice Girl fans...
Lol!!! Exactly!!!
the sun not yellow, it's chicken...
Miss Ian.
Where is Santana???
There
Good stuff but no Carlos.
Sure he is .
Are you blind???
I mean, John S....
Carlos even plays a solo
Santana isn't there.
Prove it. Looks like a guy with long hair and a mustache who sounds NOTHING like Santana on guitar.
Definitely Carlos. I was there at Wembley Stadium. Santana were on the bill with UB40 as support. Carlos joined Dylan on stage as did Clapton and Van Morrison.
You can also see Bob interviewed by Martha Quinn from old MTV days prior to the concert...at least I think it was the same show. 1984 and Bob’s wearing the same shirt. I saw him in Rotterdam and Brussels on that tour w/ Santana
Yeah, you're right. They did a tour together. That's Santana.
Carlos was the opener in that 84 tour...they came to play to Spain And i truly remember
Sad that Clapton lost a child in a horrific accident😢😢😢
Yes, very. That's why we don't keep reminding him and each other every time we see footage of him.
Jeez.
