    Are Barcelona’s issues really down to the absence of one key player? @@caflorero imo Nagelsmann is the best. He's good at doing experiments. He was good as executing tiki-taka and gegenpressing. Barca needs experiments. De Zerbi is interesting but his pressing is quite harmful for barca as most of their players are still young. Nagelsmann is good at tacticals other than pressing too.

    • @mikenkeze9582
      @mikenkeze9582 Před 2 měsíci +10

      You have a point there.......1 thing about these guys( de zerbi and Nagelsman) is their ability to adapt according to the resources they have and that I feel was were Xavi kind of faulted. He wasn't able to adapt his tactics (more so to the departure of busi) and Barcelona became more predictable. However may issue with these choices are if the fans would give them time to re- orientate the squad because it may take a bit of time before they catch on with the new tactics. Also Barca fans need to drop that mentality of tiki taka or non approach because these guys adopt modern strategy that are pragmatic and quick in transition(lots on verticality rather side to side play) but is still appealing to watch

    • @BigSuzpekt
      @BigSuzpekt Před 2 měsíci +2

      @@mikenkeze9582 I agree we need a manager more capable of adapting. I think Xavi was good the firs season because he played the team a certain way. With busi and dembele leaving and all the injuries, xavi didn't have a plan B. Not saying dembele was a beast or anything, but xavi was using him really well with counter attacks. Lamine will grow into that position, but i think it was too early to give him so much responsibility, though he has been one of the best players by far this season. Busi, you can't replace him that's for sure, but we needed a solid CDM at least which romeu wasn't able to help with. Romeu couldn't control the pressure. We played better without romeu in the field. Though it's hard to say the defense is really bad because busi left. A lot of it has been really bad defense mistakes.

    Good job to focus on particular issues, when tactical giants leave a club who solved primary problems of many teams to control the transition from winning the ball to dominate in the opposition half also without exposing the defence in depth. Romeu is individually not agile and lacks of positioning to do the Busquets job in combination with de Jong.

    Excellent video & analysis. Im a cule & I agree with you 100% on this not so much the player but the role in the overall system. Like all systems in the world there is always a cog at the heart & in ours is the no. 6 position. If look through our history & our most successful period during & after Cruijff you will notice something. We have always had a homegrown hand crafted person in that postion from Pep to Xavi & Busquests. Other players have been relatively successful like Thiago Motta, Cocu. So as I've always maintained throughout our successful periods under Pep & Lucho it wasn't Messi or Xavi or Iniesta that made us great, they made the difference don't get me wrong but the environment for them to thrive was created by the no. 6 just ask them all. So Busquests then mastered the position which is rare & then lasted so long. Now Xavi comes & wants to play the system he loves & knows very well but reaslises it wont work without the number 6 but also some players just didn't understand the basics of positional play. So whoever the coach if you want to play the Barça way you need a no. 6 from La Masia trained on the position. Busquests leaving or aging was catastrophic because 1 we have no replacement for the position nor do we have 1 for the player himself. Hence Deco was saying the "Model" is broken. It is cause its main requirement does not exist at the moment.

    I have said this for a long time: Messi, Ronaldo, Mbappe, Suarez and the like are superstars, but only because they get the highlights. CDMs and Full-backs are the real stars of football teams because of all the work they do to allow them to do the shining. Azpilicueta, Ivanovic, Alonso, Xavi, Busquets (Barcelona's domination is more due to Xavi and Busquets than Messi) ... it took the footballing world 15 years to realize the value of a Makelele-like or Keane-like anchorman. Marc Bernal is the best long term candidate from La Masia to replace Busi, but he is way too young and wont be first team ready for at least another 2-3 years. Pau Prim is another special talent as well who can take over that pivot role but he is not first team ready as well, the next manager though is going to have to find a way with this economic situation to find a suitable bridge option at DM. Outside of Zubimendi I dont see many players on the market that can be a suitable bridge option to hold it down until bernal/prim are ready. Christensen is the best option we have right now but he is a major press trigger. Oh man. Busquets was there in the first two years of Xavi and Barca didn't manage to go past the first round of UCL. Barca won La Liga last year because the la Liga level was really low. Most of Lewandowski's goals last year were very very similar and would usually from the wings. Now, let me tell you where the problem, cause the problem is not because Busquet is gone and that Xavi couldn't replace him, cause that is flat wrong. The problem is Xavi. Xavi uses the exact same old tactics of 2008-2012. But that period had Messi, Iniesta and Xavi in it. As a matter of fact, the last year of that period, they started to become predictable and that is why Guardiola left. And when Enrique arrived, he completely changed it with the MSN, which uses a lot more vertical plays and fast counter-attacks. Fast forward to now and Xavi failed to adapt to the new world order. He spent too much time in Qatar and failed to evolve. Guardiola evolved, Bayern Munich evolved with Flick and Nagelsmann. Xavi made two crucial mistakes. One, she should have left Qatar and coached FCB B team to gain experience. Second, with his lack of experience, he should have brought very experienced assistants. Instead, he brought in his brother, with very similar philosophy as his. When Phil Jackson took over the Bulls in the 80's, he brought in a very experienced assistant in Tex Winter. Xavi was doomed before he even began. Lastly, Xavi only saw one type of football throughout his entire career, that is why it was crucial that he gained experience before taking such a job at FCB. Now look at Xabi Alonso and successful he is. He saw different kinds of football throughout his career and he also went step by step by coaching Real Sociedad B team first.

      We went out of the UCL with Busquets of course, but those two seasons we were missing a proper RB, and had MASSIVE injuries especially in 22/23. We miss Busquets and have no 6, it’s CLEARLY a problem. I will agree with you that Xavi has no backup plan to his current tactical setup, a consequence of being a young coach thrust into the spotlight imo. He also does himself no favors with his equally as inexperienced coaching staff. However, I disagree that he’s trying to copy Pep’s Barca; that’s not true. There are big differences, I’d watch the Purist’s videos as he explains them pretty well.

      @@caflorero Maybe I was misunderstood, but he is using the same philosophy and tactics as Pep. Xavi himself said it: the Barca DNA!!! Obviously, he can't copy it, cause Pep had Messi, Iniesta and Xavi that would dance around the whole defense with their intricate movement and passing plays and Messi and Iniesta's dribbling skills. Also, they had Pedro Rodriguez and Dani Alves, whose work rate were just phenomenal. And that is the problem. He should have adapted with the team at hand and not trying to stick with this Barca DNA thing. As a matter of fact, FCB has one of the most possession play in the back, but fail to progress, due to a lack of verticality. Pep learned a lot and adapted it when he arrived at Man City by having a lot more vertical play, which is achieved with the likes of De Bruyne, Gundogan and Haland, last year. Now, with guys like Alvarez in the mix too. Flick adapted Pep's tactics when he arrived at Bayern (after Pep's departure), by including the TIKI TAKA style together with the gegenpressing style and the result is UCL title and one of the most entertaining football of the last 10 years. I think Xavi can be a great coach, but he needs to really take a year off to recharge and maybe watch a lot of European football. Then come back with a different coaching staff and a team in the mid table.

Need to acquire him early to accustomed to the Barcelona or Busquet way of playing. It was evident the CDM was going to be a problem. It's not just how good Busquets was. He was slow and old when he left. Still good, but not in his prime. It's the fact they chose not to spend on a replacement. I know momey is tight, but they did bring players for many other positions. Romeu was evidently not good enough. He was brought because he was cheap and had played for Barca before, but he was never an elite player. However, en elite CDM could have cost above USD 100 mil. Enzo Fernandez, Caicedo, Rice, all went for those values. The problem now is that Barca will need a striker in the next window, as Lewandowski will not last much more. And Barca will have to choose between going all in a striker or a CDM. Leverkusen's Palacio will probably go for far less than USD 100 ml.

    The problem is that Xavi is too prideful to accept his own mistakes. Of course, he could do much more with Busquets and Alba on the pitch, but he played with them for years and knew exactly where they excel at. After all his mates left, he struggles to bring the best out of all players. The pressing also seems to be all over place, sometimes i feel like the only point in pressing is to catch the team while the ball is at defense, if they play through our (very un organised press) we have no idea what to do.
    Also all the better games with higher scores come from adding more vertical play to our game, in which Ferran, Roque and Raphinia can excel, yet we dump this idea and only focus on possesion most of the time, possesion that is slow, and has no meaning behind it.
    Also we need to have a proper ballwiner as CDM, or re-organise pressing and tactic to the likes of De Jong, Fermin, Gavi (when he comes back) etc. Girona played for half a season without a proper ballwiner, and they were amazing, so it is possible to do, you just need to know what to do, and that's where Xavi's big problem lies. He should've been assistent first, or coach some lower clubs before to try out different ideas.

Busquets role could be replicated by Pedri and Pedri could do better due his level of discipline because role discipline is one of the strength qualities of busi.. obviously dejong and ilkay g can take on the advance role 8 n 10 which they are both better and more matured than Pedri there but Pedri do have what they no longer have, positional discipline and barley lose de ball. As for Gavi his strength can't be wasted at the defensive mdfl role.. what do I mean by role/positional discipline? The ability to remain at your role, never to be caught off position and don't lose the ball at your position too and this are all the things that made busi
