I analysed my musical interests recently, and found that Sinatra is my all time favourite. I have got so much of his recorded material, it will keep me happy for the rest of my life. As I am 87, better enjoy it whilst I can. Regards to all Frank's fans. England, January, 2024.

Sinatra, just 35 here...and yet to become the greatest pop singer ever....which started when he was making his first album with....Nelson Riddle.....the rest as they say...is history
He made such a turnaround in his career that it is still the talking point of critics today. Truly a fascinating and incredible story.

Love seeing these early tv Frank Sinatra variety shows . Sinatra was at his best and so were his guest! The early part of 20th century had the greatest performers/entertainers that we will ever see and many of them lasted through out the 20th century and some beyond! Like Frank Sinatra's career which expanded the decades.

Wow Frank’s early ( a one- off?) take on the classic “ I Get a Kick Out of You” is incredible, love the arrangement and the alternate melody choices he makes, plus his voice is so strong here!! Como’s always such an easy treat to listen to as well- great ( and rare) upload of an early ‘50’s TV Sinatra gem!
Thank the person that suggested for me to search for this. I agree completely as this version and interpretation of I Get A Kick Out of You is superb and definitely triumphs his earlier radio renditions of it and maybe even some of the later performances he did.
My opinion, Como was the best crooner of that time. Others were very good too, but he was the smoothest.

Thank you, My Friend! Fantastic! I love this (one-time only) version of "I Get A Kick Out Of You" so different from the classic on Songs For Young Lovers. Not sure if this is another version that George Siravo wrote, it has a little bit of Heine Beau/Billy May touch (but no slurping saxes). Frank brings it home at the end, right there with the trumpet - outstanding! As for those "Paesans on the Gravy Train" you know these guys loved each other, admired each other, always rooted for each other. Good laughs, the "surprise" appearance by the Andrews Sisters (right in the middle of Sonny Boy - Pshaw!) One of the top episodes of the show and thank you again for posting this. You've got a fan in me and I will keep watching.
My pleasure I am glad to have fulfilled your wish and this was a new experience for me as I wasn't too familiar with this episode until I looked further into your recommendation. I also completely agree with when you mentioned that the version he did in this episode of "I Get A Kick Out Of You" sounds extremely well done in comparison to his later studio recordings of the song. For some reason it seems that early 50s Frank just tends to nail everything that is thrown at him and these rare jewels are something truly like no other. As I have said before, given this was his low period, I find this the most enjoyable and high point in his career musically after his throat hemorrhage. Frank on early 50s television is something like no other and I just need the Sinatra family to release a fully remastered collection or something with all of the CBS episodes intact so I can finally experience them how they were meant to be enjoyed.
To add additional comments to the episode from my tangent aside, while this show did not have as much music as I anticipated, the humor and music it did offer was well worth the watch and since I love Como and Laine this was just icing on the cake. Wonderful recommendation!

@@cruiseguitar Glad you agree. Really a shame how it's underappreciated even now. Besides, I've said it before and I will always say. He was vocally prime during his all time career low and belted out probably some of the best notes he ever did, those being even comparable to his prime radio years. Sinatra's career slump wasn't as bad as people make it out to be. He literally had a TV show between 1950-1952 and recording many top 20 singles and a few top 10s during that time. It's nothing to how popular he was between 1942-1948 and then 1953-1970

Frankie Lane must have been a revelation back in that era ,he was different but very good
Frankie made his mark singing cowboy or Western themes too. Rawhide, the Three ten to Yuma, The Wayward Wind,.They Call the Wind Maria ,Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, Mule Train and the theme to High Noon were just a few of his many hits.
unlike today's shows and bad singers made to sound great with autotune, these shows at this time were usually filmed lived with all their warts and mistakes to be seen by audiences. There were exceptions like the Lone Ranger and the Cisco Kid but this is not one of them.
At the time of this recording frank Sinatra drove the bobbysoxers insane ten years ago (meaning early to mid 40s). Cause this was during the very middle of his downfall and carrer slump. Which was really the biggest year where he was basically a “has been”

@@chrisnalina1755 For every performance he did, he added his own flair so nothing sounded exactly the same. Otherwise he would have over 1000s of recordings all sounding indistinguishable which makes his catalogue lack body and diversity. In addition, this was his first exposure to television so he tried to keep everything as clean and as family friendly as possible. By the way, you do a fantastic job re-mastering the film and the sound of these videos. Too bad they did not have video tape in the early 1950's as that is much better than a kinescope, as you know.
@@chrisnalina1755 I unfortunately never have since I wasn't alive when he was performing, even during his final years. I will say I have seen some his concerts on DVD, but that's the closest I've gotten.
I appreciate your kind words, and I am trying to get better with making them look as pristine and audibly sound as I can without tarnishing the actual music and vocals underneath. Once I reach the threshold CZcams wants me to reach I can receive money from people like you who support the channel by just liking, commenting, and subscribing, I will be able to make these videos even better.
Oh yeah I know how much kinescope sucks. If I even had access to the reels themselves, it would be far better, but still not up to snuff with some of the already pre-existing forms of recording and storing A/V that existed then. Don't get me started on the kinescope transfers to VCR. Absolute worst thing I've ever seen and listened to in my life.

What a pity this was shot and recorded on early videotape which is of atrocious quality. Would had been of HD quality if shot on 16mm sound on film but logistics and cost will be enormous. This program was Not important enough for that, unlike a presidential speech or the like.
All of his early shows from the CBS era were actually shot on 16mm film of kinescope reels and this is a sourcing tape derivative of a third generation VHS recording. That's why the video quality is so subpar. If you want the true quality I suggest looking for it on specialized archive sites which keep and restore the film from these said reels.
