Congratulations. Been following you for a couple of years now, and your joy today was a thing to behold, as was that 23 pounder. Pleased to be sharing in your success 😀
You STILL manage to get so worked up, by the sheer joy of the moment, that you forget to record. I buy THAT any day over all these perfectly arranged videos on the net. Thanx for sharing this awsome session and keep em comin mate! Cheers from Sweden!
Great catches!! About the bleeding, its not the hook but the amount of pressure on the fish with rod and line. Heavy tackle can inflict wounds on the fish and so a bit lighter tackle takes away this issue. Done carpfishing for long and caught thousands and slowly moved from ultra heavy to soft rods for the sake of the fish. You can still use a thicker line on a soft rod with no problem and using thin small barbless hooks makes no difference also, as with a soft rod your hook is safe from bending out or ripping through the mouth of the fish. Love to see whats swimming around in that canal😁
Your enthusiasm for fishing Is so infectious I love it, you don’t just flick a line in the water and hope for the best, you explain in great detail the watercraft that’s connected to this sport. And this is what keeps me enthralled with excitement about your videos, keep up the sterling work and sport we call angling.👍🏻
Like a mermaid. 🧜♀️ 😂 Definitely should be the ginger fisherman’s new catch phrase. What an amazing creature well done Chris thanks for sharing the video.
Chris, I use micro barbed and have never seen bleeding like that. Although you did bring the fish in pretty fast especially as it was a grass carp! I tend to play the fish in a more sedate retrieve and enjoy the fight. Great catch.
Tiring a fish out completely that way is doing more damage than a barbed hook mate, regardless of how paramount your fish care is, your still stressing a fish out by hooking it in the first place
Grass carp fight hard and fast, in a canal i guess having to bully them into the net doesn't help with hook hold bleed, should always carry and use a carp care spray for hook holds......I would only use micro barbed (most decent fisheries insist) and you wouldn't get the bleed if had room to play the fish, with a large grassy even half hour gentle battle it will still go nuts in the net and bitch slap you on the bank 😂
Great catches , and been following you for years now , but I must say this time ,I would of liked to see the fish not man-handle so much in the fight and yes carp spray on is what we as fisherman must use to preserve these amazing creatures we spend our live pursuing . I know you had a small swim there and plenty of snags so wont hold this one against you fella , cracking vid and amazing catches .
I stopped fishing quite some years ago but used to use barbless carp hooks only and even then occasionally the mouth would bleed. I hated catching fish where all their mouths were distorted from scar tissue. Some of their mouths were so badly scarred you wondered how they could still feed. At the time there was some discussion about bent shanked hooks being the problem due to them rotating in the fishes mouth whilst being played and thus tearing the flesh in the mouth. I fished with one and three-quarter test curve rods and would play them rather than force them in, but you would still have the same problem. The only thing I used to do would be to treat the wound with an anti septic, I think it was called Klinik. As a matter of conscience I did it every time whether it was bleeding or not.👍
I'm not a fan of barbless hooks. I've used them where fisheries have barbless rules, but have seen them move around in the hook hold and cause nasty slices. A quality barbed hook (micro barb), I think is thd best all rounder.
Yes, I think you could well be right. On the discussion of barbless hooks versus barbed or micro barbed hooks, there was an argument that the barbed hook held its position in the fishes mouth rather than moving around and causing tears which could be more likely to happen with a barbless hook.
Hi mate awsome captures fish and footage. Hook a fish in cartilage no blood hook a vien you get a bleed, it doesn't matter if you use barbed or barbless. Keep up the good work & tight lines👍
From the look of that bigguns tail, they're on borrowed time 😞 cracking video, gotta love the endless passion and pure joy fishing brings you and you display in these videos Keep up the good work 💪
You so deserved that absolute creature. Your knowledge, expertise and techiques are only outweighed by your positivity and enthusiasm. Brilliant angling
This is what fishing is all about ; wild water with true competion - I went to a local commercial fishery and watched as someone was pulling out carp after carp only feet from the bank - 10 in 15 minutes - this is NOT fishing and the fish did not look healthy - the scandal waiting to be told is the harm being caused by commercial fisheries Keep up this sharing of your experiences - Top draw !!!
Nice catches. I accidentally hooked a grass carp by the tail fin last week, with a perch rod, my lightest setup. It took me 2:15 hours to land a 115 cm 44lbs giant. Definately my PB!
You are a legend, your enthusiasm just keeps shining through...It really is such a pleasure to watch. Your videos never fail to lift my spirits and put a big old smile on my face. Thank you for your excellent content.
Getting out there and living the dream through determination and believing that the fish are there somewhere, awesome footage, very inspiring well done Chris 👍👍
@@bellson666 I’m in Nuneaton and the same here… did 4 or 5 sessions for pike and didn’t see a single one, one visit to the local pond and one within half an hour! Coventry canal is deffo dead in a lot of stretches
Up here in Scotland too. I only really fish for pike and perch on them and have never really caught much. Probably says more about my skill level than the fish 😂
Omg what a session and incredible fish and your enthusiasm is just great to see you have watching you over the last year has got my about to start fishing again can't wait for my new adventures
The hook you were using is almost a circle hook. Circle hooks was first used by Japanese longline fishermen. They dig in deeper and cut the flesh more and is hard for the fish wiggle off. The longer and straighter shank you have, it moves the line further out from the fish and the extra leverage can dislodge it when pulled in opposite direction of the hook setting. But the line will not cut or scrape the fish as bad.
awesome job mate...three wonderful fish...and the commentry great as usual from Jaws " were gunna need a bigger net" to Madonna's "like a mermaid" getting out of the water..top vid mate and weldone :)
Chris, massive well done and thank you for sharing your adventures. You've got me into lure fishing and this was great! Appreciate the tips and advice in your content and love the style of fishing you do having only started about 9 months ago! My 12 year old also loves your content :o)
Wow, thanks for this. It was so fantastic to see such a productive, healthy waterway. And your face says it all. 23lb pb grass Carp from a canal Wow again.
I am not a Carp fisher at all but if I were Grass Carp would be top of the list. What you did there has to be some kind of a record. Love your enthusiasm and respect for the fish. Always a pleasure to watch.
I use microbarbed hooks, still easy to get rid of but don't move around in the fish's mouth like a barbless will and never tear. I mainly fish large soft baits and use the Korda Mixa pattern rather than a curved hook. Also a softer rod, usually use a 2lb t/c Scope 6ft for roving fishing.
Bigger gauge hooks and goes right through skin and flesh and they fight harder so makes sense.. keeping the hooks really sharp helps and not pulling them in like marlin 😂
Amazing fishing well done. About the mouth bleeding, Playing the fish that hard will do that. Understand that there’s snags on the opposite bank but you will encounter this when really pushing them hard like that.
That was an amazing video. Enthusiasm and passion shines through. Grassies are my favourite fish and you hit the jakpot here. Well deserved and absolutley amazing captures.
Nooo, you found our secret fishing hole🤫, Been fishing here with my lad over the last couple of years. Bit of a trek but well worth it. Some good sized bream and tench to be had as well on the method feeder. Top video well done Chris.
Once again another cracking video mate keep up the canal carp content you make it look easy some people put years into trying to catch a carp out the canal TOP ANGLING GInge 🎣🎣🎣🎣

Top result Chris a true red letter day well done!
Lovely fish! looked like a quality day out, congrats on the pb!
chris you are the reason i got into fishing and i love you for it
I tend to use barbless or microbarbs hooks for carp, rarely have any hook bleed. Not rushing the fish to the net also helps.

Ginger I’ve been watching you daily for a year now and you get me siked up for every weekend I fish everyday weekend because of you cheers pal

Fantasy fishing Chris. Top man!
Amazing fishing well done. About the mouth bleeding, Playing the fish that hard will do that. Understand that there’s snags on the opposite bank but you will encounter this when really pushing them hard like that.
