With a residential lot, I switched to a battery/cordless mower last summer. What a great choice that was. Starts instantly and is quiet and smell free... a great option for smaller properties.
I also switched to a battery mower a couple of years ago. I used it a couple of times and switched back to gas because it had no power.
As some one with close to lawn that care 2- 3 hours to cut i would never switch but fore some one with a small yard im sure batteries are fine

I love my EGO electric mower. It's quiet and low maintenance. I have to take four breaks to charge the battery but in that time I rake, clean the gardens and edge.
On what lawn size ?
You must have a smaller yard electric is fine for that

Why is this so perfect
The video is a little dated and corny, but it’s also friendly and accessible to anyone without throwing in technical terms some wouldn’t understand. Thus helpful for non handy people. A helpful vid as a starting point. CR is valuable especially for their car reliability surveys and follow ups.

Hearing protection on a riding mower is really most suited for when the blades are running. That's when the mower is making the most noise, particularly on a zero turn where they tend to run at a higher speed. The engine by itself isn't too bad. It might be noisy for some people, but if you're just using a lawn tractor to haul stuff around and not mowing, you usually don't need hearing protection.

What brand was the yellow push mower with the key start feature?
The yellow mower is the Cub Cadet SC900 ($450) but it does NOT have electric start or the ability to side discharge. The mower with the electric start is the Honda HRX217K6HZA which is our top rated mower, though it costs about $900.

The new ones just aren’t anything like how well built the older Craftsman’s Toros ect were…I’m glad I have a 2007 craftsman still starts with one pull and is a big 22 inch unlike the new 21 inch dinky cheap MTD decks on the brand new craftsman’s

I just bought my mil's house in PA on 1/2 acre.
I am 55y in great shape and love a walk behind. Maybe, I will get a tractor in 5-10 years but not now....
I looked at a Toro Timemaster, DR 30 inch walk behind and Troy Bilt 28 inch single blade in the last month. I will buy in Feb, March of 2022 so I have time....
Anyone have any thoughts on any of the three on my list?

The issue with battery powered units is that in just a few years you have to buy a new mower in batteries alone. They cannot compare to gas at this time.

Get a Honda. This video is completely useless. The only I got hey give is what size lawn mower you need for what size lawn you have. Low cost mower are not worth 150-200 dollars. If you have a small yard, get a toro, Honda, or even a ego. Mid sized, get a timemaster, John Deere lawn tractor, or something that’s at least 30’. If you have a full sized lawn, get a zero turn. That’s all I have to say. Tier of lawn mower will matter depending on what lawn you have. There, that’s more info in a comment that a full video.
The ego discussion was so stupid... “you don’t want to run out of batteries” you know the benefit of batteries is you can just swap in a new one... just like you have to refuel a gas mower. That Ego mower can do what all the other push mowers can do.
No it cant. It will be on its 4th charge when the gas mower is done.
Gotta replace the batteries every few years, I've have a shitty craftsman with a crappy old Briggs engine that has needed nothing but oil, blade, and remastering the self propel belt, and it's going on 18 years old, I've seen eletric mowers barley make one season without needing repair.

These reviews are not helpfull at all. What they try to show is that all products are the same with plus-minus 5% variation. That is not true.
Just go with Honda if you have the budget. Honda is not paying me, and just want to help the next buyers.
This honda compared to Toro and other products powered by Briggs-Stratton is like comparing a gold Rolex compared to a toy watch. They both show the time but they are not the same and don't hold up the same way. I am not biased to any brand, so I decided to go with a 144cc Toro which had good reviews and was about 120 bucks lower than the honda (329 compared to 450), and faced many problems. The quality didn't feel premium. The handle came curved and I needed to fix it. I know this was my bad luck but also shows the company's poor quality control. It took me 10 times to get it started after choking many times. Things became even worse afterward. It turned off literally a hundred times before I finished half of my yard. Anytime, I used the self-propelled feature it went off, even with me pushing anytime it felt a little bit of more grass intake, it stopped. I decided to return it the same day to Home Depot and get a Honda 170cc from Lowe's and it was a bargain. It started by the first pull, and did the rest of my yard like a piece of cake. Everything felt premium and genuine. unboxing was super easy since the beast slid out of the box on its wheels as soon as I opened the box. The handle was already attached and you don' need to install it, like the Toro. It is just a top-notch product and I don't regret paying a little more for my honda lawn mover.

CR you should stop reviewing gas powered mowers. It's the right thing to do, there is no reason why we should still be selling high pollution small combustion engines for residential use.
No they shouldnt. For people with medium to large yards or for people with thick grass, gas is the only option. Thanks for helping to put small engine shops out of business!!
