      I sincerely appreciate that, Derek!
      Mr. Hogan delivered - and continues to deliver posthumously - phenomenal and timeless instructional value, right?! But there are just so many misconceptions about Hogan’s swing out there - particularly within the realm of misunderstood or misapplied teachings - that have sadly relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration. I’m doing my best to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness, because if we can get Hogan right there are tremendously effective swing keys to be garnered.

    This video has truly helped my swing. I watched it twice, and went to the range. It was hard to get used to shallowing the club, but your image of a string attached to your hip prevailed. I over-rotated at first and pulled everything left. After chilling out the motion, the ball flight straightened out. I was stunned how effortless my swing was becoming. Thank you so much. Hopefully, I'll now be able to break 90, because I'll be hitting more from the fairway. Awesome !!

    Thanks again, Tom. I took this thought to the course today and played the best golf of my life! My distances were off, until I realized my rangefinder was set to meters instead of yards. I hit a short tee shot on the first tee, a par3, so I chipped in for birdie. What a way to start a round. I sent a couple of subsequent shots right, but realized I was letting my trail elbow leave my side. I fixed that, and the rest of the round was awesome. More GIRs that ever before. More good instruction using Ben Hogan as an example of how to do it. As we discussed in one of your previous Hogan instruction videos, he showed some Stack & Tilt in his swing. He swung around, not up and down, and kept himself centered, not overly swaying and shifting weight to the back leg in the back swing. Great stuff!

    The only man to truly own his golf swing. Ben was an artist with a majestic swing, and in my opinion one of the greatest there’s ever been, especially considering the major injuries he suffered during the prime of his career. This also affected his ability to play more often.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Před rokem

      I'm glad to know that this Hogan lesson from the archives helped you find your groove!
      This is a very body-friendly motion, so any pain - aside from some occasional and normal minor muscle soreness - typically means that something is amiss either in the setup or the swing. For example, having both feet flared out approximately 20 degrees with the knees similarly angled outward are prescribed setup features of the swing system I teach. This orientation provides for an unrestricted 45 degrees of tilted hip turn, at which point we only need to add another 45 degrees of shoulder turn for a full 90 degrees. The result is a centered, stress-free, flowing motion back and through, and a very consistent, powerful swing.
      Have you considered the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of my online school? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. Additionally, you'll have access to all my short game content (putting, chipping, pitching, bunker play), advanced level content, diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and much more. That is THE critical element to get the club in the "slot", Paul. If you hold your mouse pointer outside of Hogan's front hip in that video you'll see just how much he moves them laterally even though it looks like rotation. Completely takes the death zone out of play!

    Harvey Penick in his book Little Red Book calls this move the Magic Move. He says that in the downswing you bring the right elbow into your side while at the same time make your lateral move to the left. He says this is one move, not two. Practice this move every day, and you don't even need a club. Harvey says that once you master this move "you will hit the ball as if by magic!".

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes - it ultimately melds into one move, but I find it most helpful for my audience to digest in bite-size portions. That's why I did this lesson and another called "Ben Hogan's Magic Elbow": czcams.com/video/iL9WmQ7KsmE/video.html

    GREAT VIDEO !!!!!!
    I was taught this 20 years ago …..
    YOU WANT TO SCORE LOW, GOT GET SHALLOW
    I Use my (R) elbow staying tucked into my body , riding my body , staying close to my body always beating my hands to the top of my backswing as swing thought ,
    helps me to get swinging shallow again …
    I like the lateral move towards target with the string attached to hip and but end of club . as another swing thought ,
    I’m going add that with my(R) elbow into my body on the down also , elbow alwys has to beat my hands to the ball same as the back swing ,

      Thomas Fraser - Please refer to my reply to Rene in this thread. Not once did I reference Mr. Hogan's book with regard to the "string" comment. This was specifically a "feel" I was conveying to MY students, subs, and channel guests to get them out of the downswing "death zone" and into the "happy zone" - the primary point of this lesson. Aside from that, if it makes so much of a difference to you as to whether a string or rope is attached to the abdomen vs. the lead hip that you are compelled to nitpick it, then by all means feel free to put in the time to build your own online instruction channel, create free detailed video content, and teach your swing methodology. In the meantime, out of respect I would appreciate it if you could refrain from sabotaging the comments of well-intentioned individuals on my channel and simply post your thoughts and dissents separately.

    Ive been focusing on swinging the handle and butt of the club. I think alot of instructors miss the importance of this key concept. Often its how we describe things for each other. Everyone interprets ideas in their own way. I find swinging the club handle especially focusing on where the butt of the club is pointing works best for me.

      @SagutoGolf  Před 14 dny

      I've done a couple of videos on that very subject:
      - czcams.com/video/jX3EdIhGxR8/video.html
      - czcams.com/video/Jk4qXLsVKpk/video.html
      I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. As such, it is important to understand that the lessons on this channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a comprehensive, step-by-step, position-by-position learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing as it will make for a far more efficient and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through my CZcams content. The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result of the school, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews.

    Good video. Learning the golf swing from Hogan is like learning physics from Einstein. Next I would do a video instruction on the point of impact. For example, some of my best short and long iron shots have occurred when my focus is on that part of grass 2 or 3 inches in front of the ball. I don't even look at the ball; It just gets in the way of the arc of my swing as I take out a nice dollar-sized piece of turf in front of it. Anyways, I enjoy your videos.

    Good stuff
    Got to stay connected and under like Hogan
    I use my ground forces as I’m a long driver ( worlds) twisting right toe and ball of the foot into the ground and push off of that which forces the left hip to move laterally and rotate. Hogan has an extra spike installed under the ball of his foot for that reason. For me I need to keep my head back and under quite a bit to allow full release of the club and reduce tension on the left side

      Hi Stephen - I truly appreciate the validation of a World's Long Drive participant with regard to some of my teaching method as you necessarily have to know how to harness everything that physics, geometry, and human physiology have to offer without breaking your body! Maintaining your connections, flexion and extension, angular momentum, use of the ground - these same key components of a body-friendly swing that produces consistent accuracy and effortless power for the average golfer are also deployed those who train to bomb it competitively a quarter mile! That's some great stuff, and I thank you for sharing your thoughts here!!

     @SagutoGolf I've studied that Hogan video for as long as it's been on CZcams. Maybe 10 years now. I read Hogan's Five Lesson's book 20 years ago. The clip you used at the 1:00 mark is one of the most important pieces of golf instruction, especially the drill where he rotates through the transition over and over and then releases his arms. HOWEVER, what Hogan says to do to start the downswing, and what he's actually doing, are not the same. Hogan says he starts the downswing with the lower body and to first "move your lower body..not your shoulders..your lower body." He's merely describing how the transition feels to HIM, because it's objectively not what he's actually doing. His shoulders are clearly in sync with his lower body from the top of the swing. Watch that little drill at the 1:10 mark. He's rehearsing a synchronized shoulder and lower body turn. The problem he's warning against is starting the downswing with a release of the arms or not with the lower body at all. A golfer who doesn't have that over-the-top chop, but now purposefully holds their shoulders back because they were told the lower body goes first, is flirting with disaster. Yet, another golfer might need to FEEL like their lower body goes before their shoulders to help keep their arms quiet, yet they aren't actively trying to hold their shoulders back.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  Před 4 lety +1

      I do understand what you are saying as I am all about providing different "feels" to get different golfers to achieve the same desired position or motion. For example, someone who naturally has plenty of lateral hip movement in his downswing may need to "feel" the rotation component, whereas someone who has plenty of unified rotation with the shoulders and hips but can't get that lead hip moving laterally will come across it all day long. The latter is the far more common issue that I see, and Mr. Hogan demonstrates this where he only rotates the shoulders and hips without any lateral movement. So in addressing this, if one were to place their mouse cursor or other pointing device on Mr. Hogan's lead hip at address when he's hitting the ball (approximately the 1:43 mark) they'll see just how far his hips travel laterally while they are simultaneously rotating and - as you say - pulling the shoulders around with them.
      It is very important to understand that the videos, lessons, and drills on this free channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, and common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a sequential learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards learning and owning this swing.
      Cheers!
