  • In this video Corin demonstrates how to style a 'Lockdown Juniper'. He first selects a front and begins to select branches. After trimming the pre-trained material he applies wire to the branches to bring the design to life.
    Once the tree has been styled Corin then repots the Chinese Juniper bonsai to complete the composition.

    Looking at my lockdown juniper from last year thinking I’d done an amazing job and it took me 3 hours, then Corin knocks this up in 15 minutes flat. Think I’ll get another one now I’ve seen how it should be done.

      Well I didn't want to mention Peter but yes I agree I haven't seen anything but hacking branches of wondering round talking bs and sphagnum moss to save trees look around his green houses and see deed branches on trees poor care and maintenance and oh my god the excuses I watch now and again just to see if it gets any better but no it doesn't but greenwood best there is I am glad Corin is here to show people from start to finish how it's done properly

    Bought one from you last year. I personally prefer to put my own stamp on my bonsai trees and these are ideal material to do that. Another very instructive video for the relative newby. Well done.

    Just goes to show Corin's skill and experience, whipping up a bonsai in half an hour, kudos. Loving the videos Corin, when it's the right time of year could you please show how to prune a Japanese white pine to promote back budding, I've got the candle pinching absolutely sorted but I can't get much in the way of back budding on my pines. These lockdown junipers look like great value for money.

    Picked up a rather nice juniper from a local grocery store that sells plants as well. It’s probably about 5 years old. It was a bush really. It came out absolutely beautiful. Trunk naturally had awesome movement. Cost $18

    nice little shinpaku! the start of something great 👌🏼 I also use aluminum wire on all junipers, mostly cus I'm a noob & haven't got to practice with copper yet but i have wired with copper before and you're right aluminum much faster 😅 or safer I guess more room for error 🤣

      I’m in Pennsylvania. You might consider starting with juniper procumbens that you can get at nurseries. Fairly inexpensive and forgiving.

    Hi Corin. Love your teaching videos, but I wish that you would somehow have the camera showing just what you are cutting. I know that you are describing what you are cutting, but you are behind the tree making the cuts, and the camera is in front of the tree.

    Hi, I'm new to this channel that I discovered by chance a short time ago, I'm Spanish and I don't speak English, could you somehow, even if it is to put the subtitles of the videos in Spanish? I am a lover of bonsai, and although with my eyes I usually keep things, obviously if I could read it it would be for me and I think that also for many Spaniards who follow this channel, it would be much better.       I've been told by the Japanese guys that they can't even when they try it doesn't always work unfortunately. Ive heard that if you use a computer instead of a smartphone or tablet that there are more translation features but I don't have a computer anymore.

    For how long are the wires supposed to stay on the branches ?

      Take them off before they get too tight, probably around 8-10 months on this tree.

    I think you should discuss the differences between British aluminum wire and US aluminum wire. I was surprised to see that their spelling is identical, especially when you hear how differently they’re pronounced! ;-)

      British Aluminium is the same as US Aluminum, just spelt and pronounced correctly ! lol

    I don't suppose you could ship a Chinese Juniper or pine to Thailand could you? Just getting into working with Bonzai trees and would like to have one of Junipers or pines in a pot so I could try my hand at turning it into a nice work of art myself. Or, know of any place here in Thailand that sells these plants, I have looked around quite a bit and have not been very lucky.

    I always wonder why using ordinary dirt like the tree grows in in nature isn't better than using dry, rocky pellets?

      Because open ground and pot growing are very different. Also small compact root systems are different than extended Roots in open ground.
