- In this video Corin demonstrates how to style a 'Lockdown Juniper'. He first selects a front and begins to select branches. After trimming the pre-trained material he applies wire to the branches to bring the design to life.
Once the tree has been styled Corin then repots the Chinese Juniper bonsai to complete the composition.
You can purchase your own 'Lockdown Juniper' by following this link...

Corin your teaching is second to none. What a transformation. Just recently discovered your channel, it’s inspiring
Thank you David.
You’ll learn a lot, and see some amazing trees at the same time! 👍
This is magic. Corin is so skilled, fast but never careless. Such a great eye for design whilst being respectful of the health of the tree. Amazing 🤩
Your voice and instructions are simple, relaxed, and easy to listen to, and therefore easily remembered.
Very nice compliment indeed!
A masterclass! Thank you! I feel fully prepared to do the same with my juniper tomorrow.
It’s great how much detail you go into some things. It’s nice to be so deliberate, so that there are no questions or misunderstandings are left after watching your video.
Keep your eye out for follow up on this tree VERY soon
Love your videos! I learn a lot watching them and I appreciate you sharing them.
Looking at my lockdown juniper from last year thinking I’d done an amazing job and it took me 3 hours, then Corin knocks this up in 15 minutes flat. Think I’ll get another one now I’ve seen how it should be done.
Probably the best bonsai studio in the uk on utube
Don't forget Herons Bonsai!!
@@TheHanney123 The quality of this information and the videos far exceeds herons videos. That’s why he says it’s the best channel in the uk ... because it is
@@TheHanney123 Comparatively Corin takes bonsai to the next level, no question.
Peter Chan is like watching someone polish crystal with a sledgehammer. Painful.
Well I didn't want to mention Peter but yes I agree I haven't seen anything but hacking branches of wondering round talking bs and sphagnum moss to save trees look around his green houses and see deed branches on trees poor care and maintenance and oh my god the excuses I watch now and again just to see if it gets any better but no it doesn't but greenwood best there is I am glad Corin is here to show people from start to finish how it's done properly
Another nice and practical demonstration Corin, thank you.
Great video again Corin. Thanks for posting!
What a great advice on when to take off the wire. Wonderful video.

Really informative & quality’ video - thanks Corin
Bought one from you last year. I personally prefer to put my own stamp on my bonsai trees and these are ideal material to do that. Another very instructive video for the relative newby. Well done.
Wat did it cost
Nice presentation of juniper bonsi
Just purchased a lockdown juniper.... If it turns out anything like this I will be chuffed 👍 great content and very intuitive as always. Cheers

Nice Juniper bonsai thank you for sharing mr
You are a great teacher
Honestly right??
Thank you! I enjoy your videos!
Aussie Dave here,, well done instantly transferred to a beautiful bonsai..👍
Super cool right?
Just goes to show Corin's skill and experience, whipping up a bonsai in half an hour, kudos. Loving the videos Corin, when it's the right time of year could you please show how to prune a Japanese white pine to promote back budding, I've got the candle pinching absolutely sorted but I can't get much in the way of back budding on my pines. These lockdown junipers look like great value for money.
Beautiful!❤
Seriously amazing!
Great videos, very informative and easy to follow. Ideal for a novice like myself ❤, thank you
It's amazing master ❤️
Throughly enjoyed and learnt from this . Thank you so much
I second that!
Picked up a rather nice juniper from a local grocery store that sells plants as well. It’s probably about 5 years old. It was a bush really. It came out absolutely beautiful. Trunk naturally had awesome movement. Cost $18
Great video. Love you work and chanel
I love it !
Superb!
Excellent
excellent work. Thanks for sharing Greetings from Spain👍😄
Greetings from Pennsylvania USA! 👍
Great job. mate.
Fantastic informative content. Not sure whether or not to add this to my mainly deciduous collection, definitely want some evergreens though. You make the process look logical, thank you.
The beauty is when one can make it look as easy!
Absolutely fabulous, completely enjoyed this video and learned so very much... Greetings to you from Saint Petersburg, Florida USA
And from Hershey Pennsylvania too!!
Great camerawork
Nice video! Greats from Barcelona!!
And greetings from Pennsylvania USA! 👍
Just discovered your channel , what an excellent styling demonstration corin , to see someone style a tree with such confidence and finesse is a real pleasure to watch and learn from.
I love juniper bonsai , im only a novice but i have a few sadly which with my limited skills i butcher every now and then. Lol
Keep your eye out for follow up video on this tree. V soon
Bravo again
Thanks
You can’t judge a book by its cover - no one would ever guess looking at you that you could create such beautiful art. Thanks for sharing it with us
Amazing right??
Easy for you to say. Don’t know how did I miss this video until now. Nevertheless great video as usual.
Nice presentation on how to make jubilee bonsi
I thought it was really helpful too!! 👍
Awesome video! Sorry just found your channel and trying to catch up.
Good
WOW Yeah!!!
nice little shinpaku! the start of something great 👌🏼 I also use aluminum wire on all junipers, mostly cus I'm a noob & haven't got to practice with copper yet but i have wired with copper before and you're right aluminum much faster 😅 or safer I guess more room for error 🤣
As long as you’re practicing, you’re learning!! 👍
Superb yet again. Alooominum.
VERY NICE VIDEO PRESENTATION , AND VERY NICE STUDIO , I TRULY ENJOY YOU'RE WORKING INDOOR STODIO . YOUR LIGHTING IS VERY WELL FOR VIEWERS PERCEPTION FOR GETTING A GOOD ON HANDS WORK . THANK YOU . KIRK'OUT'PEACE
Very nice compliments friend!!
this guy's accent is so cool.
Super cool!! 👍
Kirk here ; Just wanted to let ya know I'm in America - LOUISIANA , Maurice . Quaint Little Village !
Sounds like a nice place to be!
Thanks Corin! I really enjoyed this video and your detailed explanations. This is new to me so I am trying to learn everything I can before deciding to commit to a tree. What kind of tree would you recommend for a beginner. I live in Washington USA. Thanks again! Gale
I’m in Pennsylvania. You might consider starting with juniper procumbens that you can get at nurseries. Fairly inexpensive and forgiving.
Easter bonsai awesome my friend. Any chance you could do a nursery tour video? Great stuff 👊🌲
we're gonna do one once trees are all out in leaf
Look forward to it. Very informative videos for a noob like me. When I got a few quid I'll grab a few trees of your website. Thanks again 👊🌲
Another awesome instructional video and the nursery looks fab looking forward to visiting . What size does the clothing go upto guy's asking for a chubby friend ?
we don't do anything below medium Mark - you'll be alright
looking at my lockdown elm and raintree, I really need to learn how to prune non-junipers. Thanks for the video, ive been reinspired.
👍
Great video , love your channel , do you sell the prunning scissors at Greenwood Bonsai Studio ? Whomever is doing your camera work is doing a fantastic job .
yes. I use RS Scissors and Greenwood Scissors - both on our website
Is that scrim tape roll you used to semi block the drainage holes?
yep
Who gave thumb down? Why are you watching this ?
We should find out who it was and burn them at the stake 🤣
Wasn’t me! All thumbs up here Rom! 👍
Sometimes it’s by accident. I’ve thumbsed down videos before on accident when I went to give it a thumbs up because I just wasn’t paying close enough attention.
Sometimes people think they know better 🤣👍
Oke sukses mantap semangat mampir
Hi Corin. Love your teaching videos, but I wish that you would somehow have the camera showing just what you are cutting. I know that you are describing what you are cutting, but you are behind the tree making the cuts, and the camera is in front of the tree.
Where can I get that table your using in the video?
www.bonsai.co.uk/product/bonsai-tripod-turntable/
💚👍
Hi mate
Do you sell any of the portable wire holders you have featured in the video
yes we have them on our website search for "wire caddy". please email for shipping cost if you are outside the UK
How much do you usually charge for one of them unstyled lockdown junipers ?
Hi we have a few Chinese Juniper on our website. Check them out on this link

Great video! Where in America did you do your apprenticeship? I guess who taught you is what I really mean to ask! Lol I’m in canada myself but its always interesting to know people’s history or background.
I did an apprenticeship with Bill Valavanis, in Rochester
@@greenwoodbonsaistudio Oh cool! That’s awesome. I’ve watched all your videos and they’re all great! Accurate, modern information and knowledge, clearly communicated with nice visuals. Keep it up!
@@greenwoodbonsaistudio Thats awesome im 3 hours from him and I got a couple trees from Bill. He's a extremely nice man and extremely passionate about bonsai. I would go up there all the time if it wasn't for all the problems this last year.
@@jessestrong7269 Thanks, much appreciated
Where you got that rolled mesh?
diy store, drywall / plasterboard tape. We also have it on our website
is that possible to place the camera in the axis of your work ? we can't see the branches you prune :(
I could see how that would be helpful!!
Nice setup, where was your apprenticeship in America?
Apprenticeship with Bill Valavanis, at International Bonsai, also time spent with Chase Rosade and tuition from Yuji Yoshimura.
Where can I get one of those tables?
from our website.

Hi, I'm new to this channel that I discovered by chance a short time ago, I'm Spanish and I don't speak English, could you somehow, even if it is to put the subtitles of the videos in Spanish? I am a lover of bonsai, and although with my eyes I usually keep things, obviously if I could read it it would be for me and I think that also for many Spaniards who follow this channel, it would be much better. Anyway, you can or cannot do it, my high esteem as a bonsai professional, greetings from a Spaniard from Cadiz (Spain)
regards
I've been told by the Japanese guys that they can't even when they try it doesn't always work unfortunately. Ive heard that if you use a computer instead of a smartphone or tablet that there are more translation features but I don't have a computer anymore.
For how long are the wires supposed to stay on the branches ?
Take them off before they get too tight, probably around 8-10 months on this tree.
@@greenwoodbonsaistudio Thank you for the reply! I appreciate you :) always happy to watch and learn from you
I think you should discuss the differences between British aluminum wire and US aluminum wire. I was surprised to see that their spelling is identical, especially when you hear how differently they’re pronounced! ;-)
British Aluminium is the same as US Aluminum, just spelt and pronounced correctly ! lol
@@corintomlinson6687 Just for good measure, let’s throw in a Southern US accent (where I’m from) to make it even more difficult!
Cheers, Y’all!!
@@corintomlinson6687 oh, I forgot to mention that I’m enjoying the videos too!
hello corin can you do a video on a urban yamadori juniper not a neddle juniper
I could if I had a urban yamadori Juniper (not Needle) ;-)
Where in the US did you do your apprenticeship?
International Bonsai Arboretum, Rochester NY. (William Valavanis)
@@greenwoodbonsaistudio that’s so awesome!…I wish I could do an apprenticeship somewhere!
Can you you guys delivered to the US? And if you can do you think a maple bonsai would make it to the US alive? Just wanted to ask and see. Thanks
Unfortunately we are not able to ship trees to US, due to your import restrictions
Ok thanks for letting me know. Hopefully they will get it fixed so you can deliver to the US soon. Thanks
How much would one of those cost to buy
around £120-£130
I don't suppose you could ship a Chinese Juniper or pine to Thailand could you? Just getting into working with Bonzai trees and would like to have one of Junipers or pines in a pot so I could try my hand at turning it into a nice work of art myself. Or, know of any place here in Thailand that sells these plants, I have looked around quite a bit and have not been very lucky.
Hi Thomas, No. we arent able to ship a tree to you in Thailand. But there is a big bonsai scene there, so keep looking
@@greenwoodbonsaistudio Will do, thank you for answering.
I always wonder why using ordinary dirt like the tree grows in in nature isn't better than using dry, rocky pellets?
Because open ground and pot growing are very different. Also small compact root systems are different than extended Roots in open ground.
What kind of juniper is this?
It’s a Chinese Juniper
