- The new Vauxhall Insignia is here. The old one had plenty of space, strong equipment levels and great cruising ability, but it wasn't exactly desirable. With the promise of sharper styling, posher quality and more fun behind the wheel, will the latest model be any better? How does the Insignia - reviewd here in spacious Sports Tourer form - compare to the VW Passat and the class-leading Skooda Superb? Find out in my in-depth review.

Australia-Holden
Don't ask why.
Actually isn't it soon gonna stop being that way?
Cause Opel was just bought by PSA so now Buicks and Holdens wont be based on Opels anymore
Dejan Jovanovic opel badge looks best
Opel/Vauxhall were sold to Peugeot.
Newp. Brands will stay as they are in all markets.
notformebeaky well not anymore but the car in this video is still owned by GM which is why the Buick Regal is identical
I’ve had the range topping Opel Insignia Sports Tourer 2.0 Turbo 4x4 (260hp petrol) now for 1.5 yrs and 27000kms and it’s actually the best car I’ve owned, including 3 Audis (of one S4), one MB, one VW, 2 Jeeps, 3 Hyundais, 1 Fiat, 3 Fords, 1 Chevy, a MINI and 8 Porsches. Actually I chose the Insignia over a Porsche SUV/Panamera. The total package the Insignia delivers is absolutely awesome. Besides the amazing Intellilux matrix lights which is always left at auto high beam, the Webasto heater and the super duper FlexRide chassis, I must say the BOSE noise cancelling system of the passenger compartment is my favorite tech. The mechanical 4x4 system with the active tourqe diff on the rear axel is brilliant driving on Scandinavian winter roads. And the towing capacity of 2.2tonnes makes it a capable hauler also. Brilliant car from Rüsselsheim, before any PSA interference. It’s a keeper!
Vauxhall
@@louisbeerreviews8964 Its an Opel
@@louisbeerreviews8964 Vauxhall/Opel. Same brand more or less.
Are you for real ?? Meaning I am looking to buy Audi A4 or BMW 3, but they are a little bit more expesive. But they are comfortable. However, cars, generally speaking, are depreciation assets. So I am looking to buy cheaper alternatives and put extra money into markets.
So, you have been sarcastic with your comment ?/🙄
8 porsche s 😂😂😂😂
0:45 Matt is used to electric boots I think :)!
DaSpookyNuts 🤣
One could presume that car so well equiped would have that function. Then again, he forgot that it´s an Opel
I was surprised. In Turkey, even Astra Sportstourer has electric trunk on base-trim.
DaSpookyNuts I
alarpollu opel insignia got smart opening with foot wave and electric boot opening......its english vauxhall that saves money and destroys reputation of such great and reliable car. Most faults and problems exist only on vauxhall cars and hopefully some day there is going to be only opel in all coutries.
I hired one of these from europcar for two weeks (tourer elite nav edition) and absolutely loved it. 10/10. It goes around corners and accelerates really quick just like a hire car should!
I also hired them from europcar lol
Opel have really evolved, they are more appealing than ever.
On par with VW of you ask me.
Right
Looks pretty good, Good job, Opel
MiT708 "Vauxhall" 😂
Tony S it is opel lol
Europe=Opel
USA=Buick
UK=Vauxhall
JoshyRacer And Australia = Holden
Holden have gone from Australia Jimmy their now produced by Opel in Germany So I"d say it won"t be long before that name becomes extinct under the PSA Group
Imo one of the best looking estates so far.
You guys make the best reviews, always straight to the point and honest
Looks like a Volvo and an Audi had a baby! Not a bad thing!
Insignia looks better than both of them... as did the previous generation and Omega before that
Jamie A mazda 6?
IMO it looks more like an Outback fucked a Model S
interior looks definitely like an Audi tbh
better than a v90? fuck outta here
I tremendously appreciate your work, Mat! Congrats, keep it up!
I am a happy owner of Insignia 2.0 Turbo, 260bhp, fully loaded. The car is in a class of its own, and it is a fun car.
How much mileage do you get from a full tank? Isn't it too thirsty? Also, what's the 0-60 time?
Love my 18
The design of the Insignia is getting better and better. I'm loving the new shape
Know its 4 years too late, but apparently the next one will be a damn crossover. BOO
Def getting one. It's full of equipment, priced good, looks amazing as well! Only in saloon with interior and exterior opc line for me. Maybe coconut color or white.
Mat, considering this car will replace the Aussie-built Commodore at the end of this year, how about twisting the arms of your PR mates at Vauxhall and doing a review of the VXR8 before the factory closes forever. It would mean a lot for us Australians to see what you have to say about it
alexaescht totally agree
alexaescht its just a rebadged commodore...
Looks like Matt doesn't know where Australia is, nor gives a shit....lol
0:30 was it just me or did he say that it started at £8500?
It sounds like that, but it's probably £18500
Ashwin Sriharan 18500 £
I went back a couple of times, he said 8500.
I went back 3 times 😂😂😂 I just couldn't believe, but I google it and it is 18500
Ashwin Sriharan £18,500
I honestly think this Insignia (soon to be Commodore in Australia) will sell far better than its sedan/hatch counterpart. It by far the best wagon i've seen and the first I would actually consider purchasing.
Love this cars styling and the inside is gorgeous at this price point. Great job on it
I drove the Opel version of this car during a vacation to visit family in Germany.
We drove approximately 4000 miles and when I got home I configured a loaded one on Buick' s website and placed my deposit.
My family has owned Opel's for decades and usually find them more reliable then VW.
The last "Opel" I was able to own in the United States was a Saturn Astra.
It gave excellent service for 8 years and 250k miles.
I have an insignia. Absolutely amazing car. Love everything about it. I have had many many cars and it surprised me that it is the only car that I am 100% pleased with
just got an early model, seems smooth to drive
Why cant you do the 2018 reviews just like this back in the day. This is fun to watch. Matt do what you do best.
For those #bestfans waiting for the infotainment, practicality and 360 vids with bated breath... Fear not, they'll be with you shortly! We hope this nine minutes and twenty-eight seconds of estate-based informativeness will tide you over in the meantime.
Don't you mean sports tourer-based informativeness?
Mat, do you have any plans to review the Vauxhall/Opel Insignia Grand Sport in the near future? I am thinking about getting the 1,5 petrole 165 bhp Grand Sport. Would be awsome if you could review that particular engine:)
Shortly...
Still waiting for the infotainment, practicality and 360 videos :(
What is exactly meant by "shortly"? It is almost 2 weeks ago this video went up... :(
That car is near perfect
Yes
Ive driven it and the Navigationssystem is getting me always to the wrong destination.
my brother bought this exact model and i drove it for quite a while, i have to say i don’t like it, the navi software is not the best either feels sluggish, i think he overpaid way too much for it.
love the matwatson reviews
I have one (2.0 Turbo 250HP) since 2019. One of the best cars, I´ve ever owned. Just love it!
I hate Vauxhall but this is one of the best looking cars in its class
Dont think so, the Hyundai i30 estate is the best looker in this class
Really?!? That thing is hideous
I think you mean the i40?
Olso isn't the i30 in the lower Astra/Golf class?
It looks a lot like a Mazda 6
looks amazing!
Love 10 minute reviews! I don’t need any review longer then 15 minutes, best way to lose my short attention span!
you describe the car in such fluency.. I like that
It's gorgeous
this is the underdog! Such value and so much better looking than its VAG rivals. Options list seems better too. Shame that theres only 1 petrol engine though.
I've got the 2016 model in 1.6CDTi SRi VXR trim and I love it. This looks like it will be a suitable replacement when the time comes, and is no doubt better overall.
However IMO the older model looks more aggressive and the styling around the rear wheel is better.
u really making gains matt
Great Video Review. My personal view Is that the Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer Estate Is one the best Company Cars for Business users
Hey mat! Can u make a vid of comparison of this car n other estates? Thx
Just boight one of these 2018 model , 2.0 turbo diesel 170bhp sports tourer get it next week . Cant wait ..
fantastic job matt
looking really good
what a brilliant booking car !!
great review mat
Got one myself and love it. Best car I've had yet
How's the reliability?
excellent so far, no issues apart from usual wear n tear @@Beaumont6
What a fantastic car.....hope will be mine one day
who is hope
Yess
I'd never buy a vauxhall now as they have been taken over by pegout and citroen which is worrying
Who agrees with me that Vauxhall is one of the best mainstream average consumer car manufacturer out there?
ONYX.G agreed!
Totally, my parents bought a cascada, very comfortable
Iv had this model for 2 months and good points are its nice on the motorway and its massive inside ,bad points are stop/start
and no rear parking sensors .
Had one as a courtesy car, it was spot on. Definitely be my next car
"It feels like such a big car to drive"
Sounds like my Omega then (well, that car is huge, too). I have no problem with that.
Honestly I really love the way the Insignia looks. It's certainly on my list.
Thumbs up if you never knew 'Vin Diesels' real name? At least 1 thumbs up 🙄
Who cares about Hollyweird Cult? If he dropped dead I would not notice ... also thier virtue signalling diverse movies that all feature female leads and female everything are fucking boring....so, yeah....Vin who (seriously).....
Looking forward to mine arriving later this year.
The first Vauxhall ... i really like and consider worth buying.
I like this car, looks better than a Passat .
456 546465 it looks a lot better for sure.
What *doesn't* look better than a Passat though...?
Great looking car and the styling is so much improved over the original Insignia. Makes the German snob brands look boring.
What model is shown in the video? i have scoured the net for a SRI VX-line Nav but cannot find this spec inside? with the digital display and sport mode?
Is that a digital display there? Would of wanted to see that
7:25 did anyone else realise that he had his middle finger up 😂😂
Wow, so mature...
Seeing as I live in the town of Vauxhall (the engineers have a Vauxhall base in Luton, England) I am actually pretty surprised with what they have churned out! I mean this other comment was saying u can just put a BMW or jag badge on it and people will just go rave! Well done Vauxhall
Most of the engineering was made in Germany, Vauxhall only converts them to right hand drive.
Not quite - all the running gear and the majority of the styling was designed in Britain.
There is no Engineering done in the UK. Make no mistake this is a German car through and through. As German as any VW or Mercedes. Luton print the marketing brochures. That’s about it. This cars eventual replacement will of course be engineered in France.
@@benweston9158 styling made by opel in germany*
@@dominikfcbsousaoutnow5948 Nope. The Insignia was designed by Vauxhall in Britain by Mark Adams and Malcolm Ward and used by GM worldwide in the Opel and Holden brands.
Lovely looking car but the doors sound tinny which ruins the upmarket feel Vauxhall seem to be aspiring to. That dash though is a massive improvement over previous Vauxhall cars. Good review Matt 👊👊
thanks for the review! for us in the states, an early look at the Buick Regal Tour x!
this is the best vauxhall been made since the calibra which came out in 1989 -1997
Wow this is surprisingly good looking.
It’s beautifully. First time seeing Mat not pulling out and testing the arm rest in the rear seat. All car reviews “I’ve seen” of this segment have that fake exhaust vents 😅.
Excellent review Mat! How does it compare to Mazda 6 Sport Wagon?
Seems like a great car. Would buy one if I could afford it. Well, maybe in 10 years.
it would look so good
in any other color
G3R - I think the red really brings out the features well. Especially that silver strip running through the tail lights. Besides, red is Vauxhall's colour for marketing.
@@MrMagnificentMedia I hate the silver strip, it looks so fucking tacky.....yuk!
Drove this car yesterday and I'm usually biased against vauxhall / opel but i really like it, mine was automatic though.
6 Spd manual wagon- doesn't get any better! Beautiful too.
my gun:🔫
Mat's gun:💪
LOL you American?
G Rodriguez Europe
So youre a bitch?
He's OK... but let's not make him a sex symbol.
I absolutely love the insignia one of my favourite cars
What would you get if both had similar specs, Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer or SKODA Superb Estate
Merc offered a neat way of dropping the rear headrests to boost rear view. Could work automatically when reverse engaged
this Vauxhall is almost perfect = verdict "buy it"
He can't afford to offend the other brands who give him freebies. He's certainly not unbiased; no motoring journalist can afford to be. Don't trust them when you actually need to objectively buy the best car...
Matt, do a review on Mazda6 2018
John John Yes he should start reviewing Mazda again.
Buick is finally bringing the wagon to the U.S. with the Buick Regal TourX Wagon... Thanks for the video as it is as close to the TourX review as I can see right now.
Awesome Videos BTW
Thank you, finally!
DID I JUST HEAR MAT SAY THAT A VAUXHALL HAS BETTER QUALITY THAN A VOLKSWAGEN?!?!?!?!?😱😱😱
Joel BIelecki vw are nothing special.
Joel BIelecki VW are over rated, dude.
our VW Polo has as much plastic as a damn Dacia
Mary Juana complete and utter bullshit, polo quality is good
Vw was created by hitler in ww2 because of this i hate vw
Once Driven Forever Smitten
Who remembers?
John McMahon yep 👍👍
Hi Matt, you say 1.5 gasoline is the best for the city and do you know how GPF works in this city ???
What are the items hanging from the tailgate when opened?
I love this car❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
James Cooke b
Looks very good, I think if they do a vxr version or something like that it could be a good cheaper alternative to the RS6
VXR they did but I think they dropped the Estate body style and made the Astra boot bigger instead
Thanks...just trying to get a preview of our Buick Tour X...this would make a great GS tourer...
What about adaptive cruise and lane keep system with manual gearbox - how do they work on 2.0 diesel?
Has that Vauxhall insignia got advanced park assist?! @3:52
ONYX.G it even has automatic parking if you take it.
ONYX.G Even the older model Insignia A has automatic parking.
Damn, she's fine. BMWs and audis should be ashamed.
vishagan sheagar this car doesn't compete with those manufacturers
Chatta290 aesthetically it does. You should wake up to a beautiful car every morning.
vishagan sheagar any Audi or BMW looks more aesthetically pleasing then that cheap GM crap
Chatta290 haha you're funny
and the start price (with 0 equipment) is the price of insignia with allmost full equipment. clever.
Did you have a preproduction model? Where I live you can't get that kind of spec without a hands-free bootlid.
just wondering Matt,do you do these videos in one take?because your sarcasm always seems on point
Look at this then look at a vectra fro 10 15years ago, they have come along way
while BMW and mercedes cars still look very similar
Vectra B was absolutely beautiful when it came out in 1996
very good looking car, no questions better design than skoda, passat, it's near Mazda. and those lines at back are like in Lancia Lybra
I'd be eager to hear if anyone has owned/driven the 1.6 turbo diesel as Mat doesn't even mention it! Does it have enough grunt? What sort of fuel consumption do you get?
Love the car just one question though why here in the states do we station wagon and in the UK you use estate and boot instead of trunk why is that.
"The rear windscreen is far away" No shit sherlock, it's an estate. Are the rear windscreens on other estate in its class closer? o.O lol the car is basically perfect, because you really couldn't find anything meaningful against it.
43854586 I drove one and love it, really wish I could get a manual box though
I believe he does make similar comments on other estate cars
Its cool
I flinch every time Mat sticks a finger in a 12v socket. I know it's just 12v, but still...
This car looks amazing though, very well designed.
I wish he would do that with the fake exhaust, much safer....whew!
I’ve got a Sri Nav 1.5 petrol turbo 2017 in black arriving on Wednesday. I was on autotrader looking for an estate for around 15K and didn’t have any particular make or model in mind, but came across the new shape Insignia with 60,000 on the clock. I hadn’t seen one before and was immediately impressed with the look and equipment level. I mainly travel short distances and wanted to avoid a diesel due to my start, stop driving habits. I’ve had problems with fuel filters in the past. Paid £11,800. I’m hoping it’s the right choice.
1 year later... was it the right choice? Looking at the AWD 260hp version. 97k miles for £9,000
@@TinyT1792 It hasn't missed a beat. A little heavy on fuel. Impressed with the ride quality. Good performance, especially on A & B roads. I'd recommend it without hesitation. I wish you the best if you go ahead with it. Certainly feels more upmarket than what most would expect from a Vauxhall. I hope this helps.
RE: glove box/fuses, so the LHD version has more glove box space? :P
why make a fun of Vauxhall for calling it a sports tourer when Jaguar call it a Sportbrake, BMW call it a touring, Some call it a wagon or sportswagon.
*cough* haters
Dear Michael, he's making funb of Vauxhall calling it a sports tourer because he's reviewing a Vauxhall Sports Tourer....I hope that helps you out....
@@phillipbridge5009 You missed to point to say the least... 🙄
I would get this over a superb or Passat anyday. I really don't trust the reliability of the VW Group cars anymore since my Golf is freaking falling apart already. Also I value the sound insulation ... *wink wink* Skoda ... Also: Get the Insignia with an Automatic. Thats what they are made for ^^
Mat you're the best reviewer
Argh I've said it again!
Hehe. Keep it up mate.
Oh Asif he gives a fark, he jus wanna sell u a car man! He car salesman.....
He isn't a salesman he is a motoring journalist idiot
I am a huge fan of your review. They are one of the best ones out there. I wonder what car you have. I really want to know how much you would've tested it before owning one. Awaiting your reply
Oh my god. That fake exhaust is hilarious.
Yep. Unfortunately just following suit of other manufacturers, inc. Mercedes, Honda, VW, etc. They're all at it & have been for some time.
The new W213 Mercedes have hilarious fake exhausts
but I think it looks good
I looks better, it fits the car
Skoda Octavia has fake exhaust just like this one
in America this is a Buick. why is this sold as two different names in Britian and Europe?
Loy Regacy how come the Americana get better looking insignias
British people like to think that it's a British car. Even tho it's engineered completely by Opel. Whom are German.
Loy Regacy Who in USA knows that Opel (it's Vauxhall only in the UK) even exists? Who would buy a car which has literally no trademark in the US? It's cheaper to give it a name of a well known brand than build trademark from scratch. All Opel cars are designed in Germany, but they belong to GM, so they can do with them whatever they want.
Loy Regacy the origanal company name is Opel, but for some reason when they entered the uk market they used the brand name Vauxhall.
There was probably a UK car company (or similar) called opel, so they needed a new name.
In Australia opel is called Holden, so it's a company of many names. GM it's parent company just sold it all to Pergeot. I think they folded the holden brand before the sale.
Stephen Butler I think the situation was that Opel, Vauxhall, Holden and Buick started out as separate brands. Who were then later bought out by General Motors who decided to group them and use the same basic cars to save on cost. GM seemingly operated a tier system whereby brands could change more stuff depending on how high up they where, for example Saab got to change near enough everything, whereas Opel and Vauxhall are restricted to just badges.
I drove the Buick Regal version we get in the States.
Its a 2.0 turbo ecotec.
I loved it....and want one...
But wish we could get the manual trans and the cladding delete.
The large car feeling is one of the things I like about it....especially since it can be hustled in a corner.
his look at 9:47 😂. “where is the electric boot“ 😂
On the options list
