@Tanker940 oh, and another thing. the html5 multimedia elements would refuse to replay unless I was using a server that supported byte-range requests. So things like the gunshot sound or the click noise would play only once (or a few times) and then stop playing. This isn't so much a programming error on the person who made the claridryl website but instead a fault in the implementation/spec of the audio and video elements, which refuses to scrobble if byte-range is unsupported, regardless of if the video or audio is totally loaded. idek if they'd fix it, since there are cases (especially in low memory places) where rewinding would require another network request because the browser freed the media data despite having already downloaded it

Thanks for posting this walkthough. Do you think this is the end of the game? Or do you think there are more secrets to unlock after you bury the gift and find the hidden bedroom?

this is definitely all there is since I mirrored the entire site and ran it locally. I couldn't find any assets that don't appear in the walkthrough.
be advised thought that I mirrored the site the day before I posted the video, so it may have changed since.

@Tanker940 there were a few typos and simple mistakes, as well as questionable decisions in the program structure. This is my second time writing this reply because I accidentally hit the back button lol. Hopefully this reaches you.
I found typos in areas that were copy/pasted a lot, e.g. being the "preload" div that holds all the assets for the point-and-click game. A line was misspelled and caused one of the images to not load (if you go up into the upstairs bedroom you can see this, when you click on the hotspots to take you to the closet with the creepy hand coming out there is a missing scene in between and the last image just hangs around) This could have been fixed not by making sure the preload elements were correct but instead by using Image objects in the js and waiting until they "complete"
Some simple mistakes were not turning off the window.setIntervals when the game mode was initiated. There are a few setintervals that control the little clock in the beginning, each getting activated in turn to make it spin faster. This isnt a good way to go about speeding up the clock. I replaced it with a single interval that used an exponential formula to decide how fast the time travels.
Also, another problem with the clock, for each hand position there was a different image, so at each tick of the clock the image src is changed to the next picture. This isnt too big of a deal, but it does increase the amount of server requests, and it clogs up the network waterfall when you're using chrome's dev tools since it makes a cache request at each tick. So I turned all the images into one spritesheet and used background offsets to select each image.
As far as big problems go, although the site should be js heavy, a lot of the js seemed like an afterthought, and it seemed to rely a lot on css and the elements themselves to maintain program state. An example being that the number of clicks on the homepage is recorded by adding "click1", "click2", "click3", etc to the body class list onclick. I removed all this and instead just used js variables, which worked like a charm. I don't entirely blame them for this route, since a lot of the homepage effects are css. However, having the classes in the body being the thing that maintains state is a poor choice.
Even worse, the player's position in the house and state of their inventory is held as classnames in the body. There aren't any javascript variables at all in the original code (save maybe 2 that I missed.) its honestly impressive how they did away with them despite how basic they are. doesn't excuse the spaghettiness of the code, though XD
anyway, thats all I can think of atm. I'm thinking of uploading my changes to github but idk if that's an intellectual property violation.
