In this video, we get the abandoned E30 BMW started for the first time and give it a wash after sitting for about 10 years! I also fix the engine issue from the last video for 5 dollars, we fix a transmission issue, diagnose the brakes and give it an inspection at LegitStreetQuarters. There's a lot in this one so get that cold pop ready and enjoy!

1998 BMW 740iL. 185k miles. Love that car
2004 CRV lol
2001 gmc sierra 8.1 liter. Nothing to a show car. Haha
That BMW Needs an Italian tune up
2006 BMW E90 330i , awesome car with the N52B30 Engine .
“Yes it begins” he says with an Evil Laugh lol.
Also, the poor people on the back porch…
Hey Aaron! Nice to see you here!
Mosquito season 😅
Ah yes! Didn't think about people. I was more concerned over the catalytic converter :D
That light ticking is normal. the E30 motor is known as the "sewing machine" for a reason. if it is loud it could need a valve adjustment, but its normal for those engines
Can vouch for this, I owned a few in the 80s when they were new. It’s almost impossible to get the valves perfectly quiet over all temperatures even when fanatically adjusting them.
Yep, the M30 motors have that tick as well. Very normal
Sounds like that ticking noice comes from injectors, which is normal.
Owned an E30 too. It's a bloody sewing machine!
Yep, mentioned it in the last vid. M20's are tickers. A valve adjustment could help (I forget the clearance, been awhile since I had my e30's). But that amount of tick in the video is pretty normal for that engine. E30's are amazing. They're getting real expensive too. Hope I can pick another one up before the prices go crazy(er).
It’s a single stage paint . The stains in the paint can be removed with a clay bar and followed by a compound/polish . That paint can shine again!
My 1990 735i is just the same. No clear coat.
+1, My '95 Alpine White 525i is single stage as well.
As a lad, 40 years ago, I used to T-CUT cars, with a good polish this lovely car could look "the mutt's nuts", as we say in UK.
Single stage paint... Bring her back to life with meguiars ultimate compound. My e28 m535i looked like chalk and now looks like a new car after a cut/polish
The ticking sound you hear are the valves. If you do a valve adjustment, it’ll lessen the ticking sound but with the m20, it’ll always have a little bit of a ticking sound👍🏻
Hey Alex great video!! These e30 BMW's are seriously well over engineered. They are easy to work on and a rewarding car. Owned one and it was brilliant!!!!
exactly this, was one of the first things i did when i had mine. was the smoothest running one in my town after that
Agree !
its pretty normal for a little tick tho
Thinking the same thing cause my e34 has an M20 in it too so that ticking was like unpleasant music to my ears 😅
26:26 Yes, the rear diff on the 325i automatic from the USA are all on a limited diff 4.10, so the tag says S4.10 !
This channel recently has become a mystery sleuthing diagnosis channel for abandoned cars, love it!
Sreten from М539 restorations doing E30, Alex from LSC doing E30. This week was amazing :) You guys need to cooperate. :)
That car Sreten has is pretty sweet.
Kaaming up…
@@StephenJohnson-jb7xe way too good for his kinds of projects, but still can create content from interior restoration. :)
This channel is slowly transforming into Old car restoration channels like VGG and Junkyard digs
And I like it very much
13:00 Alex’s wife is on the back deck of the house watching his kids play in the yard…
Alex: lets smoke’em out - pulls the BMW out of the garage and revs it.
Literally what happened
@@LegitStreetCars this made my day 😂
LOL!! Thought the same thing!😂
My kid was one of them. I asked him for insider info, he said "Mr. Alex made a lot smoke is all I know." Oh and that was my wife. His is taller.
I bought a Mercedes 3 years ago I look up on CZcams on how to fix something on the car and your channel came up.
Was amazing. And now I'm hooked on all your videos
E30s are most definitely some of the best built bmws out there. Buddy traded his mustang for one sitting in the field for 6 years. Got a battery and a fuel pump relay and we drove it home an hour n half away. All the check lights worked and didn’t even have the c.e.l. on. We’ve both also had e90s and both had to run through our entire cooling system lol.
It might be a single stage paint that you can just cut and buff. A lot of older cars with white in particular end up just being single stage. Even if other colors on the same car came with clear
Yes I think the E30's were single stage.
Getting close to 600K! One of, if not the best AutoCZcams channels. Always looking forward to watching and learning and being entertained. Great stuff Alex!
With these older bmw engines (m10, m20, m30) it's very important to ensure that the spray holes of the oil distribution gallery are open/free and that the correct washwrs are used to install that oil gallery.
If there is no oil flow the rockers and rocker shafts will wear fast.
The Rolls Royce connection with bmw came way later then the e30.
1975 Chevrolet SS Malibu, can't wait to see the finished product 🙂. Supporting you 110%. Like to see you blow past 1M subscribets before the end of the year 👏. Great work 👍🏻
It’s so cool to go through the step by step troubleshooting and the surprise discoveries like the source of the brake fluid leak, refreshingly different than many other automotive channels. Alex’s genuine enthusiasm at solving problems is great too. 👍🏼
The M20 is a natural ticker, even with a valve adjustment.
On that diff tag, if it’s got an “S” before the ratio, that means it’s a limited slip unit… so looks like you have an LSD!
Alex, just in case, to rewind only a bit on the youtube app, or fast forward, just double tab on the left of the video to go back 5 seconds, and same for when you double tap on the right half, the video fast jumps 5 seconds ahead, and if you tripple tap, its 10 seconds, 4 taps 15 seconds and so on and so forth :)
would like a quick backstory on how u came up with the name "Legit Street Cars".
it sound so official and cool
There really isn't a back story. I just thought of it one day and went with it. Thought it sounded cool and it went along with my builds. Cars you could always drive on the street, no questions asked.
No freaking way that thing started that easy! You need to play Lotto! 🤣👍👏
When you go to rent a trailer you can just say it’s a single cab F-150. Technically it is just much better!
True but as a F150 enthusiast...the Lightning's towing capacity is nowhere near the capacity of say a bone stock '98 Supercab 4.6L 2WD. Seems the performance mods to the suspension really hamper it's hauling and towing ability. I know the lowering has a lot do with it also.
And always tell them you're towing a Miata
I think he’s at the point where he needs his own trailer. Especially if he’s gonna keep fixing these old cars that don’t run. I also see a bigger truck in his future like an f350
I got to say how I admire how you bring old cars back to 100% working condition. It's a rare thing these days.
I must say out of all the automotive CZcams creators, I really enjoy watching your channel the most. I love the way you get so invested in your work and it has inspired me to to learn more about cars to be able to just do simple thinks like oil and brake changes. Keep up the great content. Andrew form Australia.
Congrats on the continuing growth. Keep going Alex. 1 million sub coming soon.
Would love to see all the rust fixed and get it resprayed. Some other quick maintenance fixes but the rest looks to be in great shape!
Hi Alex today I learned to change the oil on my car for the first time and thanks to your chan you've convinced me to do my suspension myself. You're a great teacher and I appreciate the content you share.
Have a great evening.
I just bought a 90 5 series and your video helped me figure out some of what I need to look at on my motor. Thank you!
Letssss goooo Alex!!!! Always excited to see that notification pop up on my phone!
Even though you know it's coming, it's still such a dope surprise every Saturday morning! Keep em coming brother! 👍🏿 Blessings! P.s. I wanna buy this thing, I regret selling my 318is 😂
Same here! 😔
Look forward to all the uploads Alex. Doing a great job with all the different content. Love the shout out to the comments.
So glad to see your success, Alex. I look forward to your videos. Keep up the great work!
Definitely a WELL engineered machine, free from the grips of accountants!
I love these revival videos! You and Sreten at m539 restorations should get together for a project, somehow.
I love the diagnostics and the way you tackle everything. Definitely will put some additives in the fuel and keep seafoaming it
Very cool Alex, stoked for this project!
Wow, you’re cranking out videos left and right!
Loving the content, keep cranking it out!
Thanks Tim!
Glad to be back watching, great cars, great videos , great community, get guy man 👍🏻.
Keep the videos coming Alex! Great content
Yeah those wheels are perfect on there, if you just get them refinished that’ll be perfect. Those genuine bmw seat covers are cool.
26:44 The oil flow from engine to the oil cooler is sent from the oil filter assembly to the radiator via a thermoswitch (spelling?) and with age it can stop working. 10 years ago it was hard to find new, I don't know how it is now
Superb video loving watching a true mechanic
So cool that you review comments with that much detail to pick out one which hit your tick!
Alex PLEASE put the OEM red taillights back on the lightning. Those aftermarket ones are so rice 😖
The M20s are always a little ticky but just do a simple valve adjustment and put a belt on it. She'll be golden.
That tick is the sound of a healthy M20- you could adjust for less noise, but you may lose a bit of power in the balance.
So amazing to see a proper BMW, from the right generation, to run like nothing has happened over the years. Beautiful E30, one of my favorites Bimmers from all times
I figure by now your neighbors are like, "Man, there's a lot of smoke coming from that garage. Alex must be making another CZcams video".
I always look forward to Saturday mornings and LSC.
I had a 86 325E. I know it's not the same car, but it brought back some memories.
Currently the oldest car I own is my 2011 ES350.
The most reliable car I've ever owned. My only complaint about it is the torque steer.
My next Lexus is going to be a GS350. RWD or AWD is best.
Great start to the series!
ever since you went full time and quit your job, i’ve been absolutely rooting for you. i cant wait to see what the future holds for the channel
This car is perfect for a full nuts and bolts restoration. That would undoubtedly been the best viewed series in the entire history of you tube
You have to keep the hat!! Put it on while driving the car for the first time. Lol. Great videos 👍👍
Great to see this wonderful old car getting attention. She will be something special when you are done. It's been many years since I saw one this nice. Most of these were toast about 10 years ago if they were looked after.
You're the only youtuber that I've got notifications on for. Loving the content!
The hat killed me 🤣🤣
25:10 those are black widow eggs on your car! You need to spray every bit of that underframe right now!
This is a car that’s been Chicago for years… it’s not black widow eggs. They can’t survive up here. That’s just regular old house spider egg sacks.
Oh snap!
Love it! Keep up the good work!!! Greatings from Sthlm Sweden.
Gotta say, I'm a mechanic myself but some of the stuff you have shown us has taught me a lot thanks Alex. Keep up the good content!!
I'm so jealous of that car, i really want one. They're pretty much unobtainium here in Sweden and if they're for sale they are almost 100 % of the time badly modified with turbo builds that will never pass inspection, lowered so much it's like riding on pogo sticks etc.. Oh and despite these issues, they are WAY expensive. Like 6-7-8-9-10 thousand dollars.
You guys have emission inspections?
@@williamwade7059 We have whole car inspections including brakes, suspension, structural and floor corrosion, emissions, VIN numbers, conformity (like if there's a turbo on a car that didn't have one from factory), horn, washers, windshield, wipers, tire wear, etc...
These are done every year on cars up to 30 years old and every other year for cars 30-50 years old. 50 years and older, if the car passes one inspection it's exempt from regular inspections. The police can still inspect the car in a traffic stop and mandate a new inspection at an authorised inspection station.
Mechanics can repair and certify certain faults after a failed inspection, not all faults, but the inspections are done by certified inspection stations that are not workshops.
Also don’t lift the front by the rockers . Lift it by the box frame rail
Sounds ridiculous
I'd condition all that leather really really well before it starts seeing the sun again. Keep it pristine
E30 is a modern classic. Whatever you do, don't get rid of it...Love the channel, and enjoy watching someone solve problems!
Can't wait to see the next video! Waiting to see the update on the IS250 as well!
Back in the 80's one of my dad's mechanics would "steam clean" cylinders by slowly pouring water into the carburetor. My job was to hold the engine rpm's up. Never went bad, but made my dad cringe.
Yeah you can clean turbos that way also.. nothing wrong with water, some cars and race cars have water injection kits, they help to keep intake temp down. Don't see it often these days
Water & ethanol mix does the trick, and safer too..
There's a reason I've had e30s for 20 years. I have 3 m20 engines in my garage. And it sounds just fine, m20's sound like sewing machines. Check the valve lash and call it a day. EDIT: And don't forget the timing belt, tensioner, and wp.
...knew I'd find you here 😂
@@MANNYTEST23 hahahahahahahahhah
@@MANNYTEST23 lol we already know. The e34 sat 10 years and started right up
Fantastic segment - really interesting adventure with that E30 and Alex. The best car repair/restoration channel on CZcams by far!
I have a 2006 325i e90. The n52 is a basic engine but at 181,000 miles smooth as heck. No check engine light or any fault codes. This car is a must have.
" This is 1989 dust we're inhaling now" bro that's coke.
Maybe the quality of those seat covers would stand a good, long bath in Woolite to bring them back? Ask Mrs Legit about it. The girls seem to know all about this stuff. Hate to trash them unless you see more serious wear.
BTW, when you make the effort to restore a good driver to donate to a less fortunate family, God seems to smile upon you and offers his graces when you least expect it.
I had a, new to me in 1989, 1987 325is 5-sp coupe. Anthracite with beige leather. I only had it for a short time, but what a fun little car! Thanks for bringing back those memories.
Excellent result - hopefully the rest of the car works out as well
Nice one Alex ! Love it ! All the best MEC
Great video. Looks like a nice project
Cool project. I'm a sucker for BMW's and E30 restorations.
Great video Alex!
Legit car guy channel. Love seeing an episode pop up on a Saturday. Keep it up man 👍
I always wanted a cool person like you whose known information inside you're brain is off the hook bro respect from new Zealand
I’ve been eagerly waiting this vid. Amazing Beamer
That car is just sweet, straight & honest. I just love every car you bought but this is special. I wish i was in your neighborhood to see this beauty in real.
Awesome video ! very entertaining and educational for me... Keep making more videos please !
Legit , I also grew up without a dad and took it upon myself to learn how to work on cars cause my dad couldn't as he had passed away when I was 7. I am currently in the process of building my OM606 to 500hp, almost there! Keep making great content you've taught me a lot.
Man, that is a beautiful showing of what BMW “USED” to be……excellent steal Alex
Another great video. Beautiful little beemer and glad it is not going to cost an arm and leg to repair.
Can’t wait for this entire series
This is my favorite automotive channel, thank you for the consistent, and quality content. 👍
Never had a bmw. But those lines on that car are so beautiful.
Thank you for the video Alex, you reminded me of my E30 that I love so much.
Every BMW I bought after 2000 were all junk.
Very cool little car! You’d never guess the mileage was that high!! Looking forward to seeing you complete it!!
My oldest car is a 1998 BMW 740 IL. Its been in my family for almost 22 years. Great video!
Alex simply the best. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. Keep up the good work, I will support you 100%
Love the Ammo NYC shoutout, was thinking the same thing as you were starting it!
Glad you could get it running! Also, you should check the area around the brake master cylinder for rust, that's a common spot on E30's, specially under that thing thats falling down at 24:17
That BMW 325 and that 2.5l engine are the best that BMW has ever made! That car is worth restoring!
Amazing you change a couple dollar O-ring on a V-12 and blammo it’s the cleanest shop we’ve ever seen after lol. Been loving the last couple months of content. Thx and cheers from Vancouver Canada!! As much as I’m interested in the free Beemer I’m dyin to hear the Merc sing after all that work you did for us all.... You’ve been killing it for years, Legit.....
Love the car. Nice to see your bring it back to life. I remember when you had less than a hundred thousand subs. Good job man. Oh and a manual swap would make that car perfect
Those bmw’s were great running cars. I had a 320i and a 528e back in the day…. Can’t wait to see it complete
That's my favorite BMW
I had a 1985 325i and I stuck a 1993 with 16k miles, best fun car I've ever had,
Love ur channel
Im actually jealous my e30 didn't come with those seat covers. those puppies are SWEET
I watched till the end my friend keep up the good work
