  • In this video, I share how I built the roof racks on my Toyota Coaster bus.
I built them using steel brackets from Roof Rack World (www.roofrackworld.com.au) and aluminium RHS for the rails.
I thought I had done a good job but after sharing this video with my channel members and posting some pics of my roof racks online, I found out that the way I had built them was totally wrong!
I have decided to keep this video on my channel as an example of how NOT to build roof racks!
I also talk in detail in this video about the gutter mount brackets I used and how I had to modify them to fit the gutters on my bus.
If you want to see how I fixed the issue with the rails, then make sure you check out the next video:

Convention is for a minimum of two full threads protruding through the nut be it a plain nut or a nylock or deformed thread stiff nut when fully tightened.. I would do the same as you and grind down the square section to achieve this, personally I would use lock nuts and aim for three or four threads, not forgetting to paint all the bare edges befote final assembly. Not trying to tell you how to do the job, just chucking in my two penny worth. lol

The long brackets are not as bad as you would think, they a $120 each, so compared to other price hikes, they are quite good.

Yes considering how much I have spent on other parts of my build, I think these brackets were a good investment. I'm happy with them.

Did you have problems tightening the clamp nuts, wearing all the paint off as you tighten them?
The ones I've seen on other brackets had a spacer between the square and the bracket so you could get a socket on the nut. These were painful to put on. On going to ring the company in the new year
