  • Curiosity rover on Mars brings to light evidence of ancient water presence through mineral veins captured in high-resolution images on Sol 4202 (2024-06-01). These mineral veins, composed of calcium sulfate akin to Earth's gypsum. The distinct formations suggest past interactions of liquid water with Martian rock, where dissolved minerals precipitated to create these veins.
Such discoveries bolster the theory of Mars' watery past. The visualization of Curiosity's Mastcam location presented in the end of this video. Detailed mineralogical analysis, utilizing instruments onboard Curiosity, indicates that the calcium sulfate within the veins exhibits a crystalline structure consistent with gypsum. Additionally, the presence of other trace elements, such as magnesium and sodium, further supports the hypothesis of aqueous alteration processes.
The morphology of the veins, characterized by their branching patterns and varying thicknesses, suggests a dynamic hydrological system with fluctuations in water availability and flow rates.

I think its Frozen mineral salt instead of just ice.

It's gypsum. Not water but evidence suggesting past water.
