    Granite boulders from Canada were transported thousands of miles south to Pennsylvania. My parents have a couple on their property.
    There is no reason that something similar could have happened on Mars. Glacier’s could have carried it into the river channel which in turn transported it to where it sits.

    Could the new bacon strip outcrop be a younger/older exposed member of one regional bacon strip? Perhaps the bacon strip is the shoreline of interconnected regional lakes or one large evaporated quiet water waterbody. I keep thinking of bacon and Oolites (eggs) for breakfast this morning.

    • @MarsGuy
      @MarsGuy  Před 2 měsíci +2

      Ha, may be the first time that phrase has ever been used! There's a substantial range in elevation (10s to maybe a 100+ m) between the bacon strip at the delta front and the Bright Angel feature, so it's not yet clear how (or if) they're related.

  • @drguenther

Why is their no microscope on the rover instead of counting on these ridiculously complicated follow-up missions to return samples to Earth? I know a working, high-powered microscope to study the samples on site is totally doable. The landing site sucks and their are literally hundreds of more interesting and inspiring landing sites in Mars to have chosen from. They will never get the funding to return those samples to earth.
