I want to thank The Smiths for helping me cope the dark days of my teenage life in the 1980's..
Oh damn guess my pops wasn’t the only one who had dark days back in his teens 80’s
My twenties were no picnic, I'm amazed I survived to be 72, today.
Partly because of this authentic & amazing music.
Amen
I have a shirt that says "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" and on Halloween I wore it. A guy comes up with his kid and read the shirt and asked what it meant. I said it was song lyrics. He said, "Sing it." So I sang the part "There's a light..."...then I get to "And if a ten-ton truck, kills the both of us..." and guy goes, "Holy shit! That went downhill quick!"
Lol
I once saw a T shirt that read 'No I don't have tourettes you ARE a c*nt' I never forgot that T shirt lol
👐👐👐 OMG!
😂

Great Bass line holding it all together. RIP.
Gosh I’d no idea he’d died, and so young
Holding it like the string that holds together a sweater
>Simon Gallup has entered the chat
In all honesty, he was badly underpaid by the genious pair Morrisey-Marr.
The Smiths were so great because of the FOUR of them. You cannot understate the importance of Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce. The songs sound that good because of the sum of their parts. This isn’t just a Morrissey & Marr show.
exactly....the whole of the band is an added value!!!!
That bass
@@deepsouthNZ OMG!!!!
5 if you count Craig Gannon who is in this video on second guitar.
@@butternutcrunch yeah, no-one's counting him.
No matter how many times I've listened to this song in my life, it always makes me cry.
Makes me cry and thanks me to be alive to listen it again and cry again. And again. And again.
The ultimate melodramatic teenage romance song. When love was a matter of life and death. So beautiful, the lyrics, the voice, the music. A masterpiece that will stand the test of time. I will love it forever. ❤
Sometimes love is a matter of life and death ❤
Morrissey understands love in all its many facets and shapes he was and is the Byron of his generation.
I see more Byron, also (as opposed to Wilde).
Dear Morrissey, I have read your play
which is a good one in its way :p
More Larkin than Byron?
The best song ever written. I remember the first time I ever heard it. I was in an army band and on (yet another) course. I was chatting to the boss when this came on the radio. And we both stopped and just listened to the rest of it in silence.
Andy Rourke really shines in this song. I love the bass lines! RIP Legend
Take me out tonight
Where theres music and theres people
And theyre young and alive
Driving in your car
I never never want to go home
Because I haven't got one
Anymore
Take me out tonight
Because I want to see people and i
Want to see life
Driving in your car
Oh, please dont drop me home
Because its not my home, its their
Home, and Im welcome no more
And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side
Well, the pleasure - the privilege is mine
Take me out tonight
Take me anywhere, I dont care
I dont care, I dont care
And in the darkened underpas*
I thought oh god, my chance has come at last
(but then a strange fear gripped me and i
Just
couldn't ask)
Take me out tonight
Oh, take me anywhere, I dont care
I dont care, I dont care
Driving in your car

Because I haven't got one, da ...
Oh, I haven't got one
And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die
And if a ten-ton truck
Kills the both of us
To die by your side

Oh, there is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
There is a light and it never goes out
Saw Morrisey once--1980s--Nashville--can't remember if it was the Smiths or just him. But I'll never forget how one after another audience members just came onto the stage and gave him a gentle hug. No security thugs tackling them, no violence, no one rushed, no one lingered or over did it, perfectly mutual, just a short line of people (maybe 50) one after another--not staged--it just happened--most loving thing I have ever seen. Like what Heaven must be like.
I saw him Morrisey down in Long Beach CA back in '97 He was down to earth 🌎 Great Guy
This is one of my favourite songs of my life. This is not live! This is the studio version.
A timeless masterpiece.
I was 15 when this song was new. Of course my teenage self was all about Morrissey. But hearing it now I realize what a masterpiece the music is and how it melds with the lyrics. Very talented band.
Lyrically a masterpiece, musically a true work of art ❤ what a beautiful sentiment ❤rest well sweet and tender Andy💔🌹

I discovered about the same time as you did and omg. I have to agree with u! It's become my number one song!!!
The Smiths were beyond talented
I just listened to morrisseys show nyc at the united palace, dec 2023. For a man in his sixties he still sounds great.
Who can tell me why, I cry every time with this song?
I love it!
… and spastics, too
It's because the feeling behind the lyrics. The passion behind the words. This song gets me too... along with their other song "Well I wonder" that one I cam play and play and play.... I love it.
Was in British army at the time this was released. It brings it all back… endless tours of Northern Ireland… death… hope…black humour… getting dear John letters… queuing for the pay phone to ask “ why?”… 98% boredom 2% ecstatic terror… trying to cram four months longing into a 48 hour pass… loss… laughter…love…friendship and that special bond. Nearly forty years on, this vinyl record and the original marketing poster are framed in my study.
Only this song and interstellar can help me travel time. A perfect song. The quote Withnail and I, uncle Monty “ There can be no true beauty without decay.”
Thank you M and M
@@andrewmcneilismcneilis6596 Thanks mate.
This song never gets old to me…. Song of my youth.
Morrissey was the Elvis of our generation, so charismatic and beautiful. A true star who's music will still be touching the hearts of peolle for years to come. Timeless and haunting

that song is a masterpiece of beauty & musical esthetics . The Smiths genius at their absolute Peak
@@BlueHopi144 Someone posed a question recently that asked, “If there was only one song you could listen to for the rest of your life, what would it be?” This song was the first thing that popped into my head. 🎶
@@christinel.4827 its indeed of the 10 songs i would bring with me in a Spaceship if i was to be part of a Mission into interstellar realms .
@@BlueHopi144 Me too, for sure! There are a few others by them that I would consider as well. I think their music will always remind me of a very special era of my life…

RIP ANDY ROURKE....GOD BLESS. YOUR AMAZING BASSLINES WERE THE IMPORTANT RHYTHM SECTION OF THE SMITHS......TODAY IS A SAD DAY FOR FANS AND FRIENDS OF ANDY......!!!!!! SUCH A TALENTED MUSICIAN...
Told this story a few times... I was living in Saudi Arabia and was contracted to work at some Oil & Gas Refinieres in Jubail. One day, I was in my normal taxi but he had to take me a different route because one of the princes was in town. Anyways, so we went through a neighborhood that we had never gone through, but on a wall there was graffiti that read "There is a light that never goes out" and to this day... I've never been the same.
I wish it was live. Raw and live, the best.
'The Tube' was a great programme.
My youth ♥️
Someone dedicated this song to me many years ago……I see the meaning now….Thanks to that person….✌️ I know this isn’t live but I don’t care…..

The greatest love song by the greatest band ever ♥️♥️😭😭
Amooooo❤️
this is the song of my youth
In 1989s my ex and I went camping in a remote town over the Andean mountains. I had a small cassette player and one cassette: Smiths. My memory still plays this on those long nights by HER side. She left me for another guy and moved to the Amazon with him. .. I was heartbroken. She tried to contact me in several locations but I never answered the phone. Years passed and walking around our town I saw her brother who told me, she passed away doing what she always loved more: traveling. I never had the chance to say goodbye to her.
She is with you forever through this song
Im so sorry to hear that.....what a tragic story 😢
