    Lyrics
    When routine bites hard
    And ambitions are low
    And resentment rides high
    But emotions won't grow
And we're changing our ways, taking different roads
Then love, love will tear us apart again
Love, love will tear us apart again
Why is the bedroom so cold?
You've turned away on your side
    Is my timing that flawed?
    Our respect runs so dry
    Yet there's still this appeal
That we've kept through our lives
But love, love will tear us apart again
Love, love will tear us apart again
You cry out in your sleep
    All my failings exposed
And there's a taste in my mouth
    As desperation takes hold
    Just that something so good
    Just can't function no more
Then love, love will tear us apart again
Love, love will tear us apart again
Then love, love will tear it apart again
Love, love will tear it apart again

Same.... Emo decades before emo even existed. Back then I tormented myself for not being "normal". Now, I'm so thankful I'm not and that I made it through all the darkness. Could not have done it without Joy Division, The Smiths, bauhaus, The Cure, Cocteau Twins, etc.

Back in the 80s my mum really liked this song. She was not into my music at all generally but she really enjoyed this. I lost her by suicide just over 20 years ago after she had suffered many years of mental health issues. I always think of her when I hear this and have always wondered if she felt connected to the song or some empathy for the singer. I truly feel for all the tormented souls that suffer mental illness and hope that they find happiness.

This song and video captured Joy Division's outward musical ethos perfectly.
Four young men, dressed in formal wear in an empty room nearly devoid of color.
Peter Hook seeming angry while playing an incredible riff.
Bernard struggling to play the ethereal perfectly.
Steven hammering a tight, flawless driving beat.
And Ian, with an exhausted, but soulful delivery of a beautiful melancholy summary of love that is nearly dead.
Aurally captured and enhanced with the musical production talents of Martin Hannet.
This is how Joy Division will be remembered.

To be fair, the post-punk and gothic rock of that time period were major influences on the indie rock scene, and they are influences that continue to be heard in the music of the underground. There's also this solo act who kinda reminds me of Joy Division; it's called Harsh Symmetry, whose style captures the spirit of the post-punk and goth culture.

    And resentment rides high
    But emotions won't grow
    And we're changing our ways
    Taking different roads
Love, love will tear us apart again
Love, love will tear us apart again
Why is the bedroom so cold?
    Turned away on your side
    Is my timing that flawed?
    Our respect run so dry?
    Yet there's still this appeal
That we've kept through our lives
But love, love will tear us apart again
Love, love will tear us apart again
Do you cry out in your sleep?
    All my failings exposed
Gets a taste in my mouth

HOWARD B. I see where you’re coming from Howard, and I’m pretty defensive too about record companies re-marketing old Joy Division songs to make a quick buck, but when the vocals are made clearer, visuals of the video are improved to look sharper, etc. I can see the merit in changing it, while still keeping up the original version to listen to. If I saw a DVD of Love Will Tear Us Apart slapped with a $25.99 price tag at the shop I’d get a little fussy, but as is a few alternate versions are all right. I prefer the original and the Peel Sessions versions myself because they’re a bit grittier, but no harm in giving fans some variety. I assume a cut of the CZcams money must go to the other members of the band as well.

My best friend thought it was a really bad idea to put this song on the mixed tape that played during my wedding ceremony.
divorced now, my former wife remains a good friend. Every year for laughs I send her this song and it never fails to get a positive response. That's nice. Sometimes the little things make all the bad things of the past much easier to handle. Great music seems to do that.
This song never fails to make us both realize that failing in a relationship isn't the worst thing that can happen.
really bad taste in music is by far the worst thing that can happen.
for me the sweet irony of this song will always be a way to connect with a good friend, whom I still love.

Best song ever written. I find it impossible that such a young lad can perfectly describe the break down of a relationship

@@blondepotatoboi Jeez! You need to learn your chords mate. His middle finger is holding down the root note on the 3rd fret, 6th string...and that is a G!!! A D chord would be frets 232 on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd strings. Look it up. Oh and his index finger is on the A string (2nd fret). Are we watching the same video????

Tragic story. Saw this on Professor of Rock, really moving. Great Band, never heard this back in the day, am glad that I was introduced to it. As long as the music lives, so does the artist.

Underrated guitar work for sure, vocals that capture an era and without a doubt one of the top songs on this decade.
