They did but nobody bought them. Nissan Versa sedan, chevy sonic sedan, ford fiesta sedan, Hyundai accent sedan, Toyota yaris sedan, Mitsubishi Mirage sedan. The list goes on but my point is people would rather spend more money for an expensive inefficient suv than a cheaper car.

I think at the time these Tercels were being advertised as 'starting at' $6499. Probably a Loss Leader like this one. And like others,I think it's too bad it can't be saved.....if it were a runner/driver that would be good simple & cheap transportation for someone.
Wow an economy car from my time. Too bad there's no title and no keys.with 108,000 miles it is barely used. Pity. Basic 4:speed transportation, with AC.
I would go try to put a good battery in it and punch out the ignition switch with a slide hammer and see if the thing will start . That ignition switch should be easy to pull out particularly if a slide hammer
Wow it’s long time since a saw a tercel!! My sister had a 1991 le bought new and replaced it in 2001 with close to 500.000 km number three cylinder three had no more compression!! … insane!!
Once saw a mid '70s Fleetwood,fully optioned but Radio Delete. Told the original owner was Deaf & felt buying it with a Radio was just a waste of money. (Yes,they did do 'Radio Delete' on Cadillacs. Also was a common thing I'm told on Ambulances & Hearses.)
American Toyota is in Albuquerque New Mexico and I worked there when that car was new on the lot

My first car ! Loved it to death. The C150 transmission is still kicking to this day in 2024 being used in a newer one. Most reliable car there is.

Only the radio is pre wired but you still need speakers for that.
That’s why people put a portable radio or boombox in their cars.

These were so underwhelming and so appropriate at the same time. All the car most singles and young couples needed.
I remember these as reliable as hell. But one of slowest cars . with 80 something horsepower. Don’t get on the highway or be late to work
Doesnt sound that slow actually, I have under 60 hp in my car and can drive on highway just fine.
